I just realized my passport expired 3 months ago. Would anyone know if it is still considered as renewal or do I need to apply for a new one?
I need to travel to Indonesia for a one year work attachment over there.

i went to State Immigration of Selangor(Kompleks PKNS) last sat, opening hour 8am-1pm.

there is a kiosk counter for renewal passport, collect after 2 hours+... easy!

U definately have not travel out before. So I guess is ok to ask.
1) U check in to yr airline that u hv book
2) U will be given a boarding pass
3) Take the boarding pass & passport show to the officer before entering the immigration hall.
4) if u hv Malaysia new passport, u dun need to stamp yr passport. Just go thru a machine to scan yr passport. It will take a min. d machine will also scan yr thumb.Once u are ok, then take yr passport n go to whatever departure gate that u r suppose to go which indicated on yr boarding pass.

The above apply if u r travelling by flight. And If u still dun understand or can't picture it, it is best that you see what people do at the airport n follow. Or else ask any officer there for assistance.

u can get the form online, google for it. as for the visa, normal process will take 4 days. expedited will cost you a bit more, depending how fast u want it...u can check the details on the embassy website. all info is in there.

if you're referring to the visa and entry to the country...no visa is needed (for a limited duration of stays) if you travel within ASEAN countries...just produce your passport during the arrival and you're required to fill in some form (during in flight). normal procedure like foreigners traveling to Malaysia without visa requirement.

I went there at around 9:30am. Queue up, process and then they will ask u to come back in an hour or two to collect the passport

Be warned -- Intl L may not be recognized in most USA states. My experience (a long time ago). Maybe call Hertz here and ask (tell us result!)
