nowadays altec cut cost give u china or taiwan rubbish inside cause they wanna compete with other cheap brands like edifire and sonic gera
so to solved that problem, simply just replace the subwoofer output capacitor, the samxon or capson to some better quality ones, if i'm not wrong the sub cap has the value 16v 220uf for those that run tda73XX. i think can use same trick for the yours
very big diff!!

anyone know where can repair Altec Lansing speaker? i using VS3151. serving me 5 yrs plus...
*
correct me if i am wrong =)

the stuff inside is almost the same as atp5 and can use parts from 4100 or mx5021
no shop in selangor area has parts for it unless he order online which is more aspensif... ban leong also not helpful
you can scrap for parts in those models above because usually its the amp, input or psu fry!!!

but if its tda73XX chip inside you van get parts from old car radio =)

Halo all ,
currently im using  MX5021 , im facing the problem of subwoofer having loud noise like buzzing sound when i switch on the electricity and the standby mode is off , so i can confirm that the problem is come from subwoofer.
At first,  when i try to hit softly at the side and bottom of the subwoofer, the buzzing sound gone , but after awhile of playing music with stronger bass music and the problem occur back ...
may i know what problem is this ??? and where can i send it to repair ???   icon_question.gif
*
lol same problem again.... dead caps... the caps can open circuit di
same advice - follow jimmyauw com 's mod
somebody here called pcworks can do it for some money
or i can try to kill it for yo for free if you live in subang

i also used cap ayamas before. see my richer friends boom boom their atp3 and shizos at that time....
go cycafe water saliva see them boom the acs45.1 T_T so sad

five years later then only i got almost ALL the sets i wanted buying garaj sales. some came faulty too
haha buy back all the toys you wanted when you were a kid =)

then, i realized that altec sucks when it is 'stock' non modidef (applies for old models only, new models suck no matter how you mod)
after recapping with more nicer caps then i appreciate altec because it sounds gooder
if only the original stock comes with the more nicer things inside
Attached Image
btw, nothing different in the first batch atp3 and the newer ones....
i noticed that the caps they use in oledr altecs are all same brand, but in newer ones all random brand at random places even same model
i saw this in used atp3 in cycafe about to bankrap
is just placebo i thinking you

Sorry to cut in...

I'm still using an AL ACS 45.1 ( using for probably 10 years I think )  ...Left & Right speakers no issues, but  the subwoofers sometimes no sound and sometimes have sound... then I adjust the line in connectors, again, sometimes got subwoofer sound, most of the time... no sound.. errr.. I dun think anything spoil but probably loose connectors or the low freq volume control faulty or something...

Would you be able to help me repair it... ??

I still like this speakers compared to the newer ones... like everyone says.. the new ones quality very bad la...

Thanks
*
is it no sound at all? or softer?
did your try playing with your sub volume control, any crackling sound? pusing pusing abit?
which end of your input connector makes that problem when you play play it?

err.. i'm thinking you should try to clean your 3.5 both end. file it with an emery board/sandppr, wipe with wet cloth

or if the wires internally broke, due to twisting and stacking, just replace it

if this doesn't work.. then maybe the solder is dry, i've seen cases of this
lets open it up

gonna mod my MX5021 soon... been using it for a year already... sound is above average nia...
lost to my Sennheiser HD280 Pro big time

anyway, anyone modded their MX5021 before ? cost ok ar ?
my 5021 is V2 and im not so sure it works with Jimmy's mod...

if anyone has tried it before, can let me know how much u spent to mod it ?
*
its not really worth the money to mod that model...parts might cost more than the spekers set
regular power filter caps oledi rm15 each, you need 4 etc.
unless you really wanna have fun diy, i'll tell you that 5021 cannot go far because the original speakers for the sub and sats not as good sounding in the first place (plastic cone) un natural sounding

i heard changing the opamp is the cheapest and best bang for the buck mod...
plan to change power filter cap and opamp and some crossover mod only....

Jimmy Auw did some mod and according to him its quite good
plan to do the same thing...

Added on August 12, 2010, 6:11 pmif it cost alot then i'll just mod the sub and opamp to deliver more tight punch.
i'll be using my sennheiser HD280 pro for mid and treble, the 280 pro is kinda lack in bass so i stack it up with my MX5021

playing both of them in parallel
*
please feel free to shoot me down if i am wrong:-

changing opamp alone will not really do much, bottle neck the sounds at other places eg. all the other caps
you heard jimmy auw's mod before? neither me. haha don't go jumping into conclusions change here and there at random places
you heard....the cheapest and best bang the buck talk
modding the crossover in the sats is quite stupid if you don't mod the rest to go along with it FIRST
and haha after modding your crossovers, watch your very lightweight satellites vibrate of your table
good? sure better than original. bang for buck? bang for luck!!!$$$

hmmn, my personal opionin is, mod all the signal path caps 50v 2.2uf,1uf,10uf etc. first before power filter
try not to change the original value in the signal path, because it will mess your frequency range later in the circuit
opamps are the last thing you want to mod if unsatisfactory because only then it will matter or at least can be heard the difference
if you are a basshead and don't give a damn about sq, just change the the signal path caps leading to sub amp chip no need for powerfilter cap mod yet until your next months pocket money received =)

and safety first =) if you decide to heed or not to.. you should.....
DISCHARGE power filter caps
be very careful with the soldering, unsoldering parts... the trace is like crap! destroys EXTREMELY easily
