The technology is like my Jamo SW600 HT subwoofer. It's nothing new b'coz I bought my first HT subwoofer 10 years ago and honestly, this technology ain't the best because my cheaper Yamaha HT subwoofer blow my Jamo SW600 subwoofer away. The FX4021 doesn't sound decent, the bass is very weak and doesn't fill the room. It sounded very hollow.

No lah, VS4121 doesn't come even close to CS21's sound quality, my brother was using VS4121 last time. I can confirm that for sure.because in this forum...alots of the forumer say vs4121 sound like |

Usually 5.1 speakers don't sound that nice except for Logitech's Z-5500 or Creative's Gigaworks 750. As for Altec Lansing, try avoiding their 5.1 systems, they're not that good. MX5021 is good for movies, very good bass and clarity.

QUOTE(player13 @ Mar 7 2007, 12:18 AM) It's not a good place to ask this question b'coz AL fans will give you a biased answer for non-AL products. P/S: The answer is a big no, there are no wireless speakers out there, years back Sony released 2.1 wireless speakers but they were over RM2K, the sound was terrible and it disappeared from the market. The last place I saw it was Yaohan's Best Electrical department, a long forgotten place. |

QUOTE(Aquanox28 @ Mar 8 2007, 09:19 PM) Does anyone here put anything under his/her subwoofer to improve the sound? Or just leave it as it is? You can add spikes below the subwoofer to reduce the boominess so the bass is more well defined. Other than that, I guess I didn't do anything else to the subwoofer.QUOTE(narkon @ Mar 9 2007, 11:36 AM) Well, I think at the moment, the answer is no but my cousin is using Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card with his CS21, the sound is a lot better. He didn't go for Creative because some of their soundcards conflict with NForce 4 mobos so to play it safe, he got the Razer one instead. |

Hi there,
CS21 shouldn't have any problems with the volume control b'coz my cousin has used it for my years and used it everyday without fail, no problems with the controls. As long as you don't abuse it, it should serve you a long long time until you get married, have kids and grandchildren. QUOTE(narkon @ Mar 19 2007, 02:19 AM) |

Abuse it normally means that you're use the controls in a rough manner like cranking the volume by pressing or turning the volume / tone controls. Buttons are subjected to tear and wear so avoid pressing them non-stop for no reason. I prefer MX5021 because of the remote control, I can use two ways to control my speakers.

QUOTE(Faint @ Mar 19 2007, 06:53 PM) A good quality speaker stands can be bought from Hi-Fi shops but may cost up to RM300 plus for a tall one. Cheapo speaker stands will vibrate when you crank up the volume and will give you unnecessary distortion to your music. |

The Isobaric ones are for individuals who need a set of space saving speakers. Honestly, the bass is there but not that deep and at low volumes, there's distortion and cracking sound in the sub. I just realized that when I cracked up the volume. At that time, they were playing the Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift track by Terriyaki Boys. Then ....... habislah.......... the sub can't handle the lower registers that well at loud volumes, MX5021 and CS21 handled them much better. I guess the new models a big disappointment, the shop told me that they didn't even sell a single unit of the FX4021 model from last year till now.

That's normal for MX5021, you need to connect the power cable to the mains switch without switching off the mains switch so that the settings won't lari. If not, you'll need to set the bass and treble settings again. It applies to all electrical items, including my Yamaha amp. You can switch off your MX5021 but do not switch off the mains switch.
The brap sound from CS21 might be due to using EQ and the bass levels too high. I think they call it as a cracking sound. So just tone down your bass level settings and that should do the trick. QUOTE(ATI.Bob @ Apr 10 2007, 01:46 PM) I suppose you left your bass setting to high.. the 'brap' sound that you mentioned might came from the sub's cloth grille.. which vibrates and hits the driver when it's on extremely loud volumes.. try holding the cloth back when it happens and see if it's the cloth grille that causes that noise.. And again.. anyone experience the MX5021's controller 'forgetting' the actual bass and treble settings (not on the indicator level)..? I hate to pack up the speaker to send it for warranty especially when I can't actually reproduce the fault consistenly.. However.. the problem does occur especially when the power is cut from the speaker set.. from the plug that is, not via the 'power' button on the control pod nor the remote standby button.. |

QUOTE(rice @ Apr 21 2007, 04:04 PM) vs4121 Well, I guess you blasted it at high volumes, normally the subwoofer won't crack if you listen it at sensible listening levels. You'll definitely spoil it if it was pushed too hard.tune to full bass=subwoofer crack.Tat's what happened to my subwoofer in the past, and today my subwoofer suddenly rosak T_T.Langsung tara bass.lasted 2 years i think,it's my fault to tune to full bass QUOTE(Faint @ Apr 22 2007, 12:50 PM) This 2 speakers are not same. VS4121 didn't have remote control while VS4221 have. VS4221 has a pair of adjustable position satellite. Besides that, VS4221 spots a wooden subwoofer, bass is slightly tighter than VS4121 b'coz the rated subwoofer output is slightly higher but for the price, it's better to get CS21 as they're miles apart and CS21 is still one legendary pair of speakers that goes loud with good amount of bass response. |

At that time, ADA 305 was around RM380 and was among the best speakers from Altec Lansing and its subwoofer is made of wood, just like your baby, CS21. Of course, your CS21 sounded better lah but ADA 305 sounded way better than ATP3, VS4121 or VS4221. The bass response is solid but it lacks the mids and highs since it's just using a multi driver but it supports Dolby Surround sound. Considered not bad already at this price last time.

Well, VS4221 is not the same as VS4121, it's not only an extra remote control, the satellites have an additional 2 watts more, the subwoofer cabinet is fully wooden. Bass response is a lot better, less vibration, sound quality is still hollow though because we always think of of CS21 when you spend around RM360 for VS4221. The CS21 pricing is not too far off and a better choice since it is very warm sounding and can be used alongside with your LCD tv since it goes very loud without much distortion.

Yeah, it's a big leap from your VS4121 in sound quality. I'm currently connecting it to my XBOX 360. It sounds better than my Sony Bravia V-Series's thin sounding speakers. Those BBE and SRS sound processing don't come close to my MX5021. Altec Lansing speakers are a good partner for LCD tvs and VS4221, MX5021 or FX6021 are a perfect combination since all three comes with a remote.
