hai, newbie question here,

can we invest at ASB through online banking? like m2u or cimbclick or we need to bring the book to the counter?
*
From what others have said here, bumi can buy some on line while non bumi cannot as theirs have all sold out.

Hi, newbie & silent reader before this tongue.gif
Do you think there will be fund available on 2nd Jan 2014? If so, I am planning to take AL & try my luck to get some units...

I do have an account with PNB several years ago, if not mistaken it is ASN..just deposited 1k last time coz my mum "forced" me to...after reading this thread, I am interested to grow more digits inside the passbook...

To every sifu + dai gor out there, kindly give me some advice.

I am a non-bumi and have some FD in HLBB with 1 month auto-renewal, those fund already in the bank for several years and feel that it is time to let it grow faster since everything naik so fast now smile.gif
*
Welcome to the ASX camp!

I don't think you need to take a day off to buy the ASX. Try your luck during lunch break as that is what I do.

1 month FD with auto renewal? You should get your money to work harder! Suggest longer terms to get the higher rates. Eg

RM xk for 3 yrs
RM yK for 2 yrs
RM zK for 1 yr

Spread them out so that there will be some money available when you need it.

There is a thread somewhere on how to optimise your FDs.

All the best!

Thanks everyone for your insight, I will stay active in this thread (perhaps just lurking around?hehe) to get more updated news from you guys.

PS: When it comes to trying your luck, do you actually have to take number or just proceed to the counter? if only if they have units, then only grab a number & wait for the queue?  unsure.gif
*
Get your queue number.

Fill in your purchase form (leave out the date and amount so that you can use this form again if unsuccessful).

When it is your turn, just say that you wish to buy RMx of ASX and the bank staff will check for you.

And of course, have your cash ready!

Good luck!

I got the feeling next year got some additional units. why? because from the statement from PNB top person said something about "tough environment" & "increased investment". If I remembered correctly the last time those term / statement came we got ASW2020 & ASM additional units & also new AS1M fund  hmm.gif  drool.gif
*
Thanks for the infor.

Just hope that the timing coincides with my FD maturation. Otherwise it may be a double rugi, FD early withdrawal and cannot get any of the units. Ha.

i just added RM 25k for AS1M

it seems bumi allocations are almost always available

makes you wonder...

btw, there's a chinese lady trying to top up her ASW2020 book but was asked to wait with no guarantee
*
Ai-yo, your 25K really adds salt to my injury when I come out of the bank empty handed! Ha.

Wonder how can I have part of that "priviledge/luxury"? Can only dream, I guess.

Happy New Year 2014  icon_rolleyes.gif

Actually some people made loses eventho KLCI gain 11%. The most teruk one is Reits.  nod.gif

if u realized, some of the forumer that own ASx fund are also invested in stock market. What I can assume is that they kept their ASx fund as "back-up" if their investments in stock market turn into losses. Some of them also kept in FD for the same reason.

just my 2cents opinion sweat.gif
*
Yes, agree with your comment on the "back up" fund for most people.

One question came to mind the other day. ASX are also heavily into shares. So if sharesgfo south, these ASX will also suffer. But with govt's magic hand in there, the impact hopefully will not be that bad or severe for the ASX. I hope. Ha.

On the maxi investment allowed per account, did a quick check as below.

There are many holders with millions in there. Some may be because they started with the RM200K right from the start and over the years the amount grows to the millions. But can also be due to inherited amount.

Looking at the table, for ASM & ASW, the millions can be explained by the duration and/or the inherited amounts. But for AS1M, the difference is 6X (cf 2X for ASM & ASW). My wife mentions one of the ASX was open to all with no limit some years ago. Maybe it is due to that.

from the calculation one will be millionaire after about 24 yrs with RM200k initial investment?

Yes at compound interest of 7%.

End of year ..........Amount
1 .......... 200k*1.07
2 .......... (200k*1.07)*1.07
3 .......... (200k*1.07)*1.07*1.07
etc

Note that there is pattern with 1.07, it repeats 3 times for the 3rd year calculation.

Mathematically, the formula is capital = principal * (1+rate of return%)^no of years

^ = to the power of

I think you are surprised that 200K can become 1 million after 24 yrs. That is the power of compound interest. Einstein called it the 8th wonder of the world!

Just to tease you a bit, after 40 years at 7%, the 200k will be 3.2 million!

Cannot be?

Just fill up the borang and sign it yorself. They arent bothered in the least. As long as they get a piece of paper to protect themselves, they are happy.
*
Just a note to add here.

The signed form can only be used ONCE!

My wife signed the form and I used it at ASNB office. The staff stamped it and put it in the tray. When I asked whether I could have it back, answer was no. Can only use the signed form once only!

This is really turning our sustainable environment drive 180 degree back ward! Wasting paper and energy.

Yes, doing the running around topping up my ASW (wife's), ASM & AS1M.

Only 1 each for ASW and ASM after months of trials. Some success (but small) with AS1M. Lately, big fat ZERO strike rate with AS1M for the past few weeks.

Thus asking for other vehicles to make my money work harder for me. Ha.

My RE experience some 10+ years ago did not really encourage me to jump in again. Got a house and rented it out. Did a comparison with FD, this house and rental thing was only slightly better than FD. Became fearful of calls from the tenants, asking for repairs this and that. To me, not worth the hassles for the small FD delta. $ coming in via FD with me doing NOTHING, besides going to the banks.

BUT keeping my option open, may get in again after this RE bubble has burst. Ha.

i have exactly the same thoughts on tenant issues. let me know when the bubble is going to burst so i can review my options

When it is going to burst? Still looking for that crystal ball myself. Ha.

But I can tell you after it has burst. My crystal ball will be the newspapers and magazines! Ha.

Can't wait to get the house price index for 2013. In one of the threads here, I plotted a graph showing the house price index over the years and the pattern now is similar to 1990's, an initial steady increase followed by a rapid increase and then the crash. Like to know whether there is a sign of the crack from 2013 data. Yes, history will not be a 100% mirror image now but looking at the bigger picture, the RE bubble will burst, just a matter of timing. The RPGT etc from the govt may delay it but in my view, the bubble will burst for the self correction.

My 2 cents.

If I am not wrong, one can top up self contribution to a max of RM60k /yr.

So if AA is paying RM3k/month to EPF, he can still add in RM2k/month.
