nope......becoz MSI design is just sooooo ....... compare to others brand,  shakehead.gif ........

Although Alienware not bad but too bulky for me.....

GE60 20D also got backlit keyboard?? I thought dun have?

Anyhow, where is the best place that I can see all this display unit available?? Must feel 1st before decide to buy it....
laugh.gif

I see, for design, my vote is: Alienware>MSI, but overall MSI features offer is worth to have it. biggrin.gif

If you live near PJ area, then go to Digital Mall

If you live near KL area, then go to Lowyat Plaza

I personally recommend you go to Lowyat Plaza (even I haven been there) bcs more models can be displayed compared to Digital Mall.

New MSI user bump in!! biggrin.gif
Finally make my decision to purchase my first ever Gaming Laptop, GT70 2OC-673MY!! rclxms.gif

My first impression:

HEAVY!! I knew the weight when I was in PC Fair, but didn expect the complete sealed box can be that heavy.

These few days I was busy with the software and hardware bundled with, bcs I am obsolete in mobile hardware for 4 years, time to catch up. yawn.gif

Overall I really satisfy with everything for GT70 2OC:

Good built-in 2.1 speaker by Dynaudio, I believe this is the best I can find for laptop built-in speaker.

Good sound card/ship of Realtek ALC892, impressive Steel series "blink blink' keyboard, decent cooling performance though it is one fan; when Cooler Boost in on, it is really a small hair dryer.....

1 TB 7200rpm HDD by Hitachi is fast enough, windows 8 boot time 4.3 second, great audio tuning software by Sound Blaster Cinema etc

Three things depress me a bit:

Touchpad area too small (my fingers too big), I keep touching the edge when swipe.

"Gold plated" audio jack is not "gold" enough, but surprisingly it can drive Beyerdynamics DT880 Pro 250 ohm with good audio quality (around 20~30 volume)

Metro Last Night code expired.... cry.gif my first genuine game is gone forever.....

Weird thing: Why there are two "airplane mode" button on touch panel and F10......... sweat.gif

Hmm. Its been a long time. Anyways, kudos to your new machine, and try to make a review soon  laugh.gif
Woah. They finally gave the GE series an awesome new facelift, and not to mention the new model names. But I was expecting a GS60 also =/
*
Thanks, but may take some time...Busy with work...... smile.gif

Looks like 2014 laptops will be featured with slim profile + 3K~4K screen. Finally, laptop trend become what happen in smartphone trend (slimmer).... sweat.gif

Do take your time, and don't forget pictures. Lots of pictures  laugh.gif

You also forgot to mention wider screen, and notebook manufacturers these days are producing more and more 17" slim gaming notebooks( and the 14" of course). Where are the 15" form factors?  doh.gif
*
Ya, I will upload, using my ancient Nokia N8.....

I need to organize what will start first, mostly will focus on software part (my strong point), haha.

Provide some guide for those newbies what kind of softwares bundled with can be deleted.

In CES 2014, just read Toshiba comes out 15.6" with 4K screen. doh.gif

Personally, I would prefer improvements to the cooling solutions: dual fans for the GE-class notebooks, for example.  Thinner and more powerful is pointless if we have to choose between high component lifespan-shortening temps and throttling.

That, or a second HDD bay or ODD bay in a GS70-type notebook.
One of the GE-class pics is of a 15.6" model.
*
For cooling performance, mostly slimmer laptop in 2014 will feature with dual cooling which depend on manufacturers how to promote and marketing in this year. ODD is not that important anymore compared to other parts bcs an external dvdrom can be purchased around RM100~200. Therefore, remove an ODD bay but save a lot of space for other improvements. I personally think this is a good point (if they can free external DVDrom...)

Actually, I notice a weird situation for MSI GE70 and GS70, both of their price is not much difference but GS70 offers more attracting features than GE70. So, eventually buyer will go for GS70 by just paying a bit.

Slimmer profile defenitely cant avoid throttle issue, so it is on buyer wise. I am surely a bulky supporter tongue.gif

Yes you can, but with current cooling designs you have to run ULV processors to do so if you want to avoid hitting mid- to high-90s temperatures.  That's actually how a lot of the slim notebooks are achieving their temperature performance.  Even the Aspire V series does that despite their dual fans.
*
If using ULV processor, it will be meaningless when come to MMO games... sad.gif

You mean you prefer laptop comes with ODD then unscrew it, swap with SSD?

And so you see my dilemma. ULVs like the i5-4200U and i7-4500U are by far the most common CPUs in current models, and they're chosen because they're relatively easy to keep cool in thin bodies.  But performance is sacrificed.
Unless someone includes an mSATA slot I can shove an SSD in, or one for the new M2 SSDs, yes.  I know that hybrid SSHDs exist, but they use the SSD as a cache to speed up access, rather than it being actual accessible storage.  And God knows how I'll find something like the Western Digital Black2, which is a proper SSD and HDD using one single slot.
*
In that case, look for AMD Kaveri, haha.

Hmm, I am thinking if someone purchase slimmer laptop with 4700HQ, why not setting max cpu usage at 80~90% or so in Power Option? Bcs in gaming, users dont require that much of power...unless everything in high/ultra settings...

I know less in SSD but instead of using for caching, I prefer to use it being accessible storage like what you said. Not sure Western Digital Black 2 how it works.....

I'll wait for the benchmarks to compare it againat Haswell. AMD tends to have poorer single core performance, which is bad for games like Kerbal Space Program that are single threaded (dammit Unity devs, make your engine properly multicore already...). And the only mobile next-gen Radeon I've heard of is an R7 240 M or something like that (ie. Damn low lah).

WD Black2 is literally an mSATA SSD and 500 GB HDD that both connect to one SATA port. You can use them just as if you had a separate SSD and HDD. But damn ezpensive.
*
Previously, I was tempted to buy GX60 3BE, overall features are decent except AMD APU......if the performance can be up to I5~I7, I definitely will purchase, but reality is always cruel.....

I used to share some thread on how to upgrade their GX60 from notebookreview forum, but it is too time and resource wasting if spending too much on a laptop just to upgrade its performance to rival I7...

Hopefully, Kaveri can bring a good news to us (not me anymore).

For WD Black2, hmmm, I think I will go to separated SSD and HDD, maybe in future SSD will be quite affordable to us.

Yah. I do know that the GE series has a 15" screen. What I meant was a slim profile such as GS70, Blade Pro, X7, with a 15" screen. For 14" we already have GE40, RU-14, P34, and Blade. Perhaps manufacturers don't see money on a slim 15 incher.
The WD Black2 comes with only one variant so far, and it's a 120GB + 1TB HDD. Can refer here.

Just so you guys know, the WD Black2 is available locally, HOTsteph is selling them for a whopping RM1.4k.
*
If 15.6" gaming laptop in slim profile, manufacturers may find difficulties in cooling performance issue in order to achieve decent gaming performance. 17" offers bigger space available than 15.6" without sacrificing cooling performance while maintaning decent gaming performance.

Thanks for WD Black 2 info, but it is really expensive...... cry.gif

That question is kinda general. It could be good or bad depending on your preference. Do spare some more detail.
Just thought that since it is possible on a 14" why not a 15"  hmm.gif

At first WD Black2 sounds like a good idea, having a SSD and a large HDD cramped in one. But for the price, you could just buck up another RM400 and get a 960GB M500.  wink.gif
*
Yes, you are right, I am same thought as you. I am thinking if WD Black marketed on this price, it is better to go dedicated SSD + HDD. However, for those users who own laptop which has limited space, this provide them a good option, just the price is enough for them to upgrade to 960 GB SSD........ tongue.gif

For slimmer profile on 14", possibly targeting on customer prefer mobile than performance. 15.6" is kind of taste between 14" and 17". If customer have a choice that light weight (<3 kg) and slim (GS70 thickness) with decent performance (GTX level GPU) but 17", why not going? smile.gif

My point of view is WEIGHT CONTROL and SLIM DESIGN, in old days when customer think of 17", first of all they will think: BULKY and HEAVY. Nowadays, the slim of Razer Blade Pro and GS70 have proved to us.

Used to be available through MSI's Facespace page. It isn't there anymore.

@MSI-NB: Why not make it available online again?  It's the best way for potential buyers to keep track of your SKUs and retail prices.
*
For temporary suggestion, can look to sellers @numbertwo, @fairuzhafeez and @HOTsteph thread as they list the specs quite detail. Or go to Techhypermart to search for description which is faster.

I would also like to ask, so far have you experienced any USB 3.0 issue such as unable to detect external hard drives or USB devices keep disconnecting and connecting? This is because I have encountered some complaints across various forums.
*
This issue I have faced in my GT70 before during file transfer, now gone already

How come? Did you update the BIOS or any driver?
*
BIOS no, driver update no, just try using different plug then settle. It just settle like that, I also forget.

Edit: Weird, I find out only 1 USB 3.0 jack (near audio jack) has some problem. I have 3 portable harddisk, done a small testing test. Transcend and Toshiba no problem in transfer for every port, but Seagate freeze in beginning of transfer in that port only. MSI anti-Seagate is it?? Haha tongue.gif

Not likely, bcs MSI may continue to release 3AAA GX destroyer series.

by the way, the SteelSeries Engine, I think existing MSI series can install bcs it is only software interface. So, let's see.

Haha, but if you are in sufficient light condition, the backlit keyboard will not be necessary, but I would say it is a must for gaming laptop.

If you check the video, the keyboard configuration is exactly the same with my GT70 and others . So, we existing MSI users no need worry too much. What I hope if MSI can able to include "music/song genre" control, so that every time I listen to different songs, the light showing is following the song genre too. Haha

For USB 3.0 connect/disconnect issue, it can be categorized into Win 7 and Win 8.

For Win 7, users need to install so called:

USB 3.0 Driver: Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for Intel® 7/8 Series/C216 Chipset Family from Intel website as Win 7 does not have USB 3.0 support.

Edit:

For Win 8/8.1, I managed to solved my problem by replacing with Intel Driver for Wins 7 with some mod. biggrin.gif
