We'll wait for benchmark to prove if provides huge performance gap. Not much GPU performance gaps over these years =.=
*
Pls dont surpass GTX770M then ok and still maintain 128 bit. GTX860M is 20% performance behind GTX770M after benchmark then I will be very happy. rclxms.gif

bro good thing about GT70 GPU/CPU is upgradeable cool2.gif
*
Can upgrade, but need to worry PSU (180W not enough, use battery boost wear out battery faster shakehead.gif ) also if go for GTX780M. Heat also another problem (100W TDP) doh.gif , dont want to kick in cooler boost (50+ db) every time (occasionally I play NFS Rivals every 20 mins). Currently, no planning for upgrade,

lol juz buy and sun look back tongue.gif...

me bought HD7870 GHz Edition not too long later out comes the R9 series, comes with free BF4 somemore...  sweat.gif
*
Desktop gpu still oklah, not like mobile gpu, change very fast. Bcs rumor say GTX860M has same spec as GTX770M, I am suddenly stunned doh.gif When I read the leaked spec of GTX860M, exactly the same one with GTX770M (copy and paste), really funny.

Flagship GTX880M confirms still Kepler, GTX870M is not sure yet. Dont want 700 series got surpassed by 800 series, at least 900 series

GT70 Dragon Edition 2 come with same 180Watt psu... no problem to up CPU to i7 4930MX and GTX 780M ...  Thermal.. BUY CoolerMaster u3 problem solve...  doh.gif
*
4930MX is really powerful, but 180W PSU really can supply 4930MX + GTX780M under heavy load? hmm.gif

Normal condition surely no problem, but at least twin fan + large PSU for such combination.

Somehow I feel the warranty sticker is really annoying, want to open cover to inspect also cant. haiz.....

yes... there was show on low yat plaza(MSI GT70 Won *best head turner 2013 by PC.com) ... last month or something show Capabilities of GT70... 180W do not hold back their gaming performance during the test/gaming... (my word should be enough...)  but hey up to u... go cry Conner and self off GT70 to somebody who confident with MSI GT70.. cause i don't think you...  hmm.gif

x
look GT70 no problem with highest Cpu /Gpu  thermal be overcome with Good laptop cooler(what kinda dead brain gaming Without laptop pad ? should just put notebook inside oven.. cook it like chicken)
*
Relax smile.gif , what I hope is GTX770M is not obsolete within 1 year. Currently, I quite satisfy with my GT70 except some usb 3.0 issue with seagate portable hdd. Of course, potential customer of MSI will hope some features for top end model which I think is reasonable.

Before that, you also want to sell your powerful GT70 2OD, somehow upgrade already with 32GB ram + 4800MQ + SSD. sweat.gif

R9 M290X = HD7970M

but that also mean my desktop HD7870 is still relevant laugh.gif
*
I think it should be like that:

7970M = basic

7970M + 50mhz = 8970M

8970M + 50mhz = R9 M270X

If you read my latest GX series destroyer news, you will find surprise about the APU they use.....

If you read my previous posts, you will know.

I suspect the enclosure or head port of Seagate HDD has some loosen, cable may be another issue.

i would say it's sufficient, but pushing the limit...

4930MX = 57W TDP, 780M is 100W TDP... then there's still mobo, monitor, HDD and RAM...

the more crucial issue for such a setup would be keeping the efficiency of the PSU after using for some time...
*
Exactly what I am thinking... biggrin.gif

Dont want something really close to limit, always left some space for improvement

That's where the NOS kicks in  laugh.gif

The surprise is they still use A10 Richland doh.gif

Why not wait for AMD Kaveri....... sweat.gif

unless they use intel CPU + AMD GPU, but this is totally impossible

At first that was my thoughts as well. After a while, and some researches, there is silver lining to the situation. Perspective varies with people.

I also noticed tomshardware review too, probably one of the thorough review same as kitguru.

The idea of NOS is creative and new bios also improve performance.

However, it will be a good practice if MSI can use larger power supply. rclxms.gif

register warranty first - done

testing every port - goin to try next

update all drivers - just done update graphic card driver, is there anything else?

install start menu - that is window 8.1 right?

uninstall all Norton - done n just install kaspersky... hehe

wat is hybrid power?
*
hybrid power is the NOS feature of MSI, it draws extra power from battery under heavy load condition where exceeding PSU supply limit.

by the way, you dont need 3rd party start menu? Even for windows 8, it is quite painful if you dont have start menu.

You can update latest bios, utility etc. If you go to MSI GS70 website, there is a new utility called "boot configure", you can try this one instead installing start menu as this utility allows you to boot into desktop mode directly.

Supercharger is a fast USB charging feature by MSI to allow "compatible" USB device such as Iphone to charge faster than normal USB port. It may not support certain Android smartphones, so you need to add profile, you can google how to add profile to detect your device if you want to use supercharger.

As for antivirus, your Kaspersky is paid version or trial?

Last thing is backup your system using "Burn Recovery".

the i5 haswell with GT740M....bought it from HeavyArm...just wondering is it easy to open up the bottom side of the laptop? Cause feel like wanna add on another stick of 4gb ram xD
*
You can go back to Heavyarm and request them to install for you if they are authorized MSI seller. Otherwise, need to go to service center. Open by yourself will void warranty.

So usually does not need to use the NOS power 1?

wat r the example of 3rd party start menu? wat does it do?

wat does boot configure does? n can we like use window update function or sort to update all other driver?

Kaspersky currently using the trial version, once expire then activate my cd key... 12+1 months, hehe...

How many DVD does it take to burn out the recovery disc?
*
You wont gonna to use "NOS" during normal work or even gaming, unless you really play high demand games that exceeds the PSU (120W above). Before that, if you want to activate NOS, just open and let it run, otherwise, just dont use it.

"Boot configure" I already explained in my last post, it was just introduced by MSI few days ago.

Of course you can use windows to update the driver but not really reliable, you better go to MSI webpage and update drivers.

In win 8.1, Microsoft recovers "start menu button" not "start menu", 3rd party "start menu" let you use win 8 like you use in win 7. Some example: startisback, start8, start menu reviver, start menu 8 etc

Kaspersky is well known of consuming resources (high cpu, high ram usage) last time, not sure for 2014 version, may be improve they might. Plus, if you are not familiar with Firewall setting (me neither), better dont go for internet security, unless you spend whole day to study how to use Firewall option in Kaspersky. Antivirus Plus can serve you well for normal use. Somemore I assume you play some non-genuine games, Kaspersky is quite sensitive to those also sweat.gif

If I am not mistaken, it may require at least 4 dvd discs

this... even MSI support webpage gets outdated fast... best is still to download directly from the hardware maker...
*
Can also, but mostly is nvidia GPU, realtek audio driver.

bios and utility are definitely from MSI

However, I found out something really interesting: in KLM setting, there is one feature called "audio", in factory setting, it able to function, however, if you update realtek audio driver, it will not function anymore.

Seem like  can forget the NOS oledi... Hehe

The boot configure nice to use?

I know nvidia driver need to update frequently, but other need so?

Will try do some research on the start button app...

I have been using kaspersky for many year... So far so good...  Nvr ready noted any lagginess... I mainly play on9 game so should b OK... So far I din specifically set my internet security oso... Just let it run itself... Wat other brand of antivirus is good? Norton still using resources like hell? Bit defender?
*
i dont use boot configure as my main concern is start menu, boot configure let you boot into desktop mode directly without going through metro screen.

Nvidia driver, just wait for stable version then upgrade, I usually let it automatically detect then update, others no need purposely, once in a month I think should be okay.

For you just use kaspersky, let it run in default or you can set rules to block some website or application. Bitdefender antivirus is powerful but weak in firewall. Norton can skip, not really decent in detection. Eset is good and light, you can use it with Comodo firewall or Malwarebyte.

Ultrabook is lack of entertaining gaming features  wink.gif

Tried before

Toshiba (HDD dead, overheating issue), celeron model.

Asus A series I think, battery dead after 1 year+, unplug AC laptop will off.

Now using office Dell Inspiron, not bad for an i5, battery can last 2 hour...but no gaming, speaker suck...
*
Speaking of laptop speaker, I personally have my own ranking:

Dynaudio (MSI GT series) > JBL (Y500) > Altec Lansing (Asus A series)

Haven try Harman kardon (Toshiba), Onkyo (Illegear) and Sonic Master (Asus N series) speaker

If you really stress on "laptop speaker" (not external speaker) as well, you better opt to at least "realtek ALC892 sound card + Creative software + JBL speaker equivalent and above + 2.1"

Otherwise, you can buy an external USB sound card

I had a fren with dynaudio car component speaker is very nice... laugh.gif

Plan to get ge60 20d...but 15.6inch seem heavy... sweat.gif  if I carry around it often I no need enroll for gym
*
The parts I always look in laptop speaker are detail, loudness, sound quality. Bcs my old Dell studio 1555 is 2.1 and I feel them they are good not decent, that is one of my reason to choose GT70 with Dynaudio biggrin.gif

my man, 15.6" not heavylah, not even more than 3.0 kg. Even my GT70 5.0 kg not heavy also, I am quite surprised as when I carry it with MSI bag, I dont feel the weight either, I even try to fit my old Dell studio 1555 (2.8 kg) + GT70 (5 kg), then I feel a little weight.

It is about how you adjust your bag and at least provided some sponge on carry side for you to feel comfort but not feeling too hard when you carry.

but GT70 will break my piggy bank... rclxub.gif

wanna try to make the damage less than 4k
*
Not much choice you can get from MSI, highest you can go is GTX760M (GE40 and GE60), if older variant, you possibly can get a GTX765M.

Now every laptop manufacturer clearly separate their product line according to GPU, RM4k below GTX760M, RM5k below GTX765M, RM6k below GTX770M and RM6k above will be GTX780M.

May be you can try Illegear RE-15 (GTX765M) starting from RM3499 (I5) as Illegear can pay monthly installment (6 & 12 months), no need to pay all once. So you can configure "kao kao" the spec.

Or Lenovo Y510p with SLI, performance is up to 20% more than GTX770M based on driver support.
