"Look around to... look around."

"Running is like walking, only faster."

FC3:BD - Most epic tutorial EVER.

@fox_shin: That's how the switchable cooling system was SUPPOSED to work - so that you can make it less noisy and use less power when you don't need it.

Personally I'd turn it on ALL the time when on AC power. Like I said, lower temps are always good.

Dear MSI FanBOI,

What you think of SteelSeries Product...? are they really good? or just brands... product like other generic product...?  to be honest... i like the name sound catchy Steelseries... but mouse pad i have from s.s is not feeling the quality... like color look faded, wear off and component  feel OKAY quality(way it claim to be) and this mouse pad cost me RM35 bought it 4 month ago(still new right?)... And steelseries Headphone price is RM350-450... a bit pricey ?? no?
*
The only thing I have from SS is the Siberia V2, and honestly it's not half bad, sound wise. BUT, at 300 for a basic set (don't get me started on the marked up "special editions"), the built is slightly lacking. Not the built "quality" mind you (it's screwed together quite well), it's just SOOO plasticky and doesn't really feel like a RM300 product.

They really should have at least used better, maybe even textured plastic. The glossy stuff they're using right now makes it feel cheap to the point that my Logitech G230 feels more like a RM300 headphone compared to the SV2.

The G230 doesn't sound even half as good as the SV2 though, and the retractable mic on the SV2 is sheer genius. And while it feels flimsy, the SV2 is undoubtedly more comfortable (except for the hot, sweaty pleather pads).

For other stuff, I dunno. For mouse I'm more a Razer guy, simply because nobody else makes a mouse like the Orochi. For mousepad I don't really buy into the whole "GAMING" hype and I just use a cheapo Followes pad.

A for the keyboard, that's just MSI NOT reinforcing the area beneath the keyboard enough. After all, Steel Series didn't build the keyboard, they just helped with design and stuff.

where can i see list of authorized online reseller for msi?
*
You can ask MSI-NB or ask for the list at the MSI Notebook Malaysia Facebook HERE.

@zaicon: Err *EHEM* *EHEM*

Anyways, the part about the SV2 being comfortable is bloody true. Give it a few minutes and you stop feeling it on your head. Plus I actually dig the SQ, it's not "audiophile" level for sure but hell it's really enjoyable. It's something like the old Fischer Audio Eterna V1 in-ears, but with slightly better staging and rougher details.

Now I gotta figure out how to get rid of my Logitech G230 - it's now woefully outclassed.

As for the 5HV3 and the 9H yeah I googled, the 5HV3 in particular looks good. I'm actually more stoked about the Siberia Elite though, after being spoiled with the Siberia suspension system. And the cable adapter system they're using is bloody genius - you can use the Elite with ANYTHING: laptop, phone, you name it.

Walking around in public while talking to your phone with your mic boom extended might just be a new nerd secret pleasure.

@fox: Yeah, I just got it too. I'd prefer if they were to give us something like GRiD2 but heck, free stuff is always good. I'm still damn happy over the EXTRA free Blood Dragon right now.

I notice that Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon perform very sluggish on my Gx60 compare to Hitman absolution & Far cry 3.. Tried medium settings for graphic it still very sluggish from the menu till gameplay..

Am i missing something?
*
I'm telling you, it's all the NEON slowing you down. Oh and the fact that you're fighting an entire army of Daft Punks.

I'm actually able to run it FASTER than FC3 on the same settings lol, go figure.

Go to the MSI Notebook Malaysia Facebook and ask them for a list of resellers with GS70 diaplay units.

BTW, anyone wanting a thin ass, gaming lappy and thinking that 17 is too large might want to wait till the end of the year. I "heard" (from a very trustable source) that the GS70 is getting a little brother. One with VERY SIMILAR specs.

Seems MSI is hell bent on kicking Razer's behind lol.

NOS brother, NOS. MSI laptops seem to be fully optimized to not only suck full power from the AC adapter at max load, it ALSO needs to suck power from the battery.

Otherwise, not enough power = throttle.

@zack236: Short answer: NO. Use only DDR3L (1.35v).

For the FULL long answer check a few pages back for my posts on Haswell and DDR3L.

Summary: DDR3 normal (1.5) might work, but it's not a sure thing.

However as MSI Malaysia has SPECIFICALLY requested us to stay with DDR3L (or risk voiding the warranty), experimenting with DDR3 just isn't worth the meager cost savings.

Get new DDR3Ls from Storm88, he seems to be selling them at a good price.

@davidmak: Accurate guess. There will only be a 15 inch junior GS, no 14 inch version. This puts them smack dab in MBP territory as well, which will prove to be interesting.

finally got some time to lepak this zone for a while.

moving shop is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a tiring work. sweat.gif

btw,

for little brother of GS, i think you all refer to GS60. IMO, i think MSI malaysia has no intention to bring it into Malaysia.

Meanwhile new batch of GS70 is coming with 1TB 7200rpm harddisk, but price is higher
*
No intention to bring in? But why? It will sell like hotcakes!!! I can EASILY convince people to buy it (because the GS70 is actually too big for most people).

Sigh. Thankfully I already have my GE40 - and I don't have to go rush out and sell it later if the GS60 really ISN'T coming in.

@Unseen: MSI ACTUALLY has a feature called "NOS" on the GT60/70 IINM - which is for me just a clever way of hiding the fact that it uses more power than just the AC adapter alone can provide. Can't blame them for being creative though.

My wear level is ALREADY 6.75% LOL. Not that I HAVE A CHOICE in running it without a battery as my GE40 SUCKS around 130W under full load and MSI gave me a 90W adapter... shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

Thankfully the back end where the battery is doesn't get THAT hot - which is the PRIMARY cause of battery wear. It's NOT overcharging - laptops have stopped overcharging batteries A LONG time ago. Also keep in mind all this wear level business is simply calculations of capacity "now" vs the "supposed" capacity of the battery, and not many batteries come out of the factory with a 0% wear level.

YES. SERIOUS. All GE40 COMES with a 90W adapter.

hm ah your adapter die before? hm i did not know that? how you manage to get new adapter RMA?
*
My ori one "supposedly" died, so sent to MSI. Turns out it DID NOT ACTUALLY die, so in the end (after kindly testing it for a week) the MSI SC gave it back to me. For the record they had it done in about 4 days, but I'm only in KL weekends so they ended up having to take care of it for a week. No charges by the way.

In the week that I had to go without the adapter, I bought several universal adapters. One of them was the Coolermaster NB90. I was using it without the battery in one day and after about an hour it just POPPED loudly and died. <-- This is the infamous adapter story. Elysian is gonna get mad again.

Thankfully I had other spare adapters by that point, and I managed to exchange the NB90 to the MUCH sexier Huntkey X-Man slim. But after that, I stopped using the laptop with the battery out permanently. Not that I wanted to save the adapters, more like I wanted to protect the GE40 from more sudden power loss.

Theoretically, it might just be the NB90 that's faulty but I'm not about to fry another adapter.

Was thinking about getting a 120w adapter but in the end, I NEVER really ended up getting one - especially considering I now have 3 adapters (one Huntkey normal, one X-Man, one original - all 90w). Getting another one just seems so... wasteful.

what u guys opinion?

Nah, don't worry. If it's the 750 version it should be okay.

The 765 version on the other hand... Go check the GE60 review on NotebookCheck for power consumption figures.

@Unseen: No, he gets mad because I tell that story too often lolololol. Look at Boletaria.

so for i got this laptop dun use it together with battery as it would cause the NOS to be switch on?
i dun wan my battery life to end that fast.
*
THEORETICALLY you use a laptop WITHOUT battery to save the battery from getting hot, which increases wear - this applies to ALL laptops, not just MSI laptops with NOS.

For laptops that does not get hot where the battery is located, you might not even have to.

It's just that with NOS equipped laptops, you NEED the battery PLUGGED IN to achieve FULL PERFORMANCE. The laptop will throttle down performance otherwise.

Not sure if this applies to the GE60, not sure if it comes with NOS. The GE40 for instance, does not come with NOS.

Feel like buying a third party battery to rape when plugged in, while saving the original one from too much wear.

Problem is, where to buy a good third party GE40 battery that DOESN'T explode due to bad QC, at a reasonable price.

Just got my GE40...

I thought we can order the battery from MSI service center...

The original charger , 90W, cannot handle gaming without the battery? Which 120W adapter to get?
*
Yes you can order extra battery. Like every other Laptop manufacturer, MSI sells them at a premium price however: RM500.

As for the adapter, based on the specs and from tests done at NotebookCheck, the laptop needs around 130w at full load. Not that that's confirmed to blow the original adapter, but going by the specs, it might just. HOWEVER, a more feasible outcome is that the laptop might just throttle down the CPU/GPU without the battery, like what happpens with the GT60/70 - AND what happens on the GE40 when it's running on BATTERY ONLY.

Keep in mind my infamous dead adapter was a universal adapter, NOT the original unit. So it might just be a faulty specimen and not the norm.

@Zaicon: So the NOS/GPU boost-throttle thing was an ACTUAL feature from Nvidia? LOL.

1.5V is the maximum which motherboard can support.

However for Intel Haswell model please stick to 1.35V

sweat.gif please don't mind the repeat

We don't mind reminders if it's something important, thanks man. Don't worry, I've relayed this to everyone who asks me anything regarding RAM and Haswell.

THE BIGGEST problem is people who DON'T KNOW getting their laptops from less than trustworthy sellers who INSIST that 1.5v RAM runs fine with Haswell. Intel has got to really come clean over this, and actually make manufacturers stick a DDR3L sticker on Haswell laptops, makes things easier especially for newbies who know nothing about RAM.

Sorry to bother but I have a few questions to ask
1) The MSI service center is located approximately where in Low Yat?
2) My GE60 20E's back does not have any stickers asides from the warranty void if tampered with sticker, any advice on this?
3) Approximately how long would it take for them to diagnose and fix up my laptop?
*
1) If possible, avoid the Low Yat MSI service center and go straight to the MSI SC in Kelana Square. The LYP SC ISN'T really a service center at all, it's more like a drop-off/pickup center. In the end they'll send your laptop to PJ anyway.

Trust me, it'll be worth the extra travel time to PJ. REMEMBER to call the MSI careline FIRST to arrange for warranty claims.

2) Eh? Isn't everyone's back like that: No stickers except for the "void" sticker? Aside from the Win8 sticker that is.

3) Repairs should take around a week or so, depending on how long it takes for spare parts to arrive (if any parts need replacing). As for diagnosis, not sure how long - usually I go to an SC with a good idea of what's broken.

What's wrong with your laptop anyway, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the fast reply, as for whats wrong with my laptop. It just randomly lags during usage, such as when watching stream or listening to music on spotify. I assume its a multitasking problem?
You can move the cursor but any input from the point of lag, will only apply after the lag. I usually just afk until the lag is over ( force power off not good for laptop right)
*
Some quick questions:

1) Lags ONLY when using a browser? I take it the lags happen ONLY when flash is running?

2) Have you upgraded RAM or SSD or Hard Disk?

3) Which exact model of the GE60 do you have? Is it the Nvidia 765 one or the i5/i7 + Nvidia 750 one? Or is it the previous generation model with the Nvidia 6xx GPU?

4) Has it been like that since you bought it? Or have you installed/uninstalled/changed/updated anything (programs or drivers) recently?

I'm not too sure, but most of the lag incidences does have flash running one way or another if I recall correctly.

I have never upgraded anything in it. Its the one with the GTX 765. It just started happening a day or two after purchase ( I don't think installing Skype, flying spaghetti monster etc has an effect?)

Definitely not the internet speed problem as well. Runs fine on my old Sony Vaio. As for browsers, this problem can occur on both chrome and firefox so I guess its not really them being a problem
*
Flash eh. Hmmmmmm. Not sure what is going on, hopefully it's not all the crap that comes preloaded (like all the Norton crapware).

Maybe try turning off the Norton stuff (AV and all) if you have them running? Maybe they're causing the lags.

Otherwise it might be a heat issue, are you running with a cooler? But this is highly improbable as your lags don't come with running heavy games. It COULD be an issue with TOO MUCH thermal paste (as the folks down at the MSI factory REALLY likes to paste up the GPU/CPU with extra, extra helpings of paste).

If all else fails, do call up the MSI Careline and arrange for a service. And, like I said earlier, do head down to the SC in Kelana Square, PJ if it's at all possible. AFAIK that's the best MSI SC, it's kinda like the service HQ.
