Finished with *watching youtube videos on* the Killer 1202 and the DDR3L. Everything is slightly snappier now, and the Killer Network Manager looks interesting lol.

Hmm, no pics this time. Actually I hope I don't have to *watch youtube videos* anymore until time comes for the SSD project - afraid that the latches will simply break off due to too much *watching*.

hmm, after fitting killer wireless 1202, my signal strength seems weaker a bit compared to stock. Anyone experience this?
*
Stock = Bullshit strength meter. Looks full (all the time summore) but is not really.

Compared to the Intel Advanced-N, the 1202 has better signal reception. It likes to do some weird disconnect dances though, but that's probably just my retarded router (it does that disco dance with the Intel as well).

Ping is better and it FEELS faster, but signal reception is DEFINITELY improved.

Edit the .inf file. Google "nvidia inf modding" for steps.

Just managed to redeem my FC3 code. Turns out the redeem site is a bit broken, at least for me.

1. Go here: http://www.amd4u.com/neversettlereloaded/index.html

2. Choose "Never Settle Reloaded" for promo (LOLWUT).

3. Make sure you're from Gagauzia, Moldova (LOL).

4. Fill in everything else.

Now I have to install Uplay damnit lol. On the PLUS side seems we get Blood Dragon for free too. WOOOT.

As you all know,I'm still new gaming using notebook  sweat.gif

Now I only have HWiNFO64 app to monitor my cpu and gpu temps

How do I get the one showing in game? icon_question.gif

Just started playing Hitman Absolution in Ultra settings for graphic settings tongue.gif can't tell if the fps is good
*
Use MSI Afterburner. It will make full use of HWiNFO64 and is fully customizable.

HOWTO:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/...en-display.html

You get FPS, GPU/CPU temps AND speeds. Pretty comprehensive. Works for 99% of the games out there and IINM the overhead is slightly better than FRAPS as well. Not sure how well it works with AMD though but it works fabulously with my 760.

Unfortunately it only works for 32-bit games and apps, but considering I've yet to see that many 64-bit games yet... biggrin.gif

Damn. I can actually make a research paper on WIFI cards now.

Long story short: I'm back on the Intel Advanced-N 6235. Supposedly it's the card with the WORST driver issues but right now, it's the only one pushing 1.2MBps through my home WIFI - without ANY problems (on STOCK Win 8 drivers of course).

Stock Realtek/Azurewave - Disconnection issues. Single Band.
Killer 1202 - Connection instability. Disconnection issues. Dropouts. Timeouts. Bluetooth mouse problems. Just thankful I didn't buy this crap for full price.
Broadcom Dual-Band N + 4.0 BT - Damn thing didn't even start.

Granted, all WIFI problems come in 2 parts: a) Adapter Issues and b) Router Issues, and my router (TP-Link Gigabit Single Band Advanced N) isn't quite the best out there, but right now, the 6235 is surprisingly giving me the least grief.

Maybe later when I've upgraded my home router I'll give the Killer another chance. But right now, I'm simply surprised that it's "GAMING GRADE" when it can't even download anything for more than 3 minutes without disconnecting.

it has been known issue Killer Wi-Fi cards cause disconnection, why don't you try the intel 7260 AC?
*
I don't have an AC router so I don't really think it's worth it. Besides, my 6235 is working well enough for now.

Killer 1202 /Broadcom Dual-Band N + 4.0 BT - MAYBE it's the card that's faulty?
*
Well, funny thing is for the Killer: it actually works once in a while (say for about 30 minutes), and it's ACTUALLY okay WHEN it works (not as fast as the Intel, but it was ok). Coupled with the reports I'm getting online I'm thinking it's the Killer software that's at fault (check out the Killer threads over at NBR/Alienware). I couldn't even install FC3 without it disconnecting every hour.

Like I said, maybe it's partly my shitty router - AND I will be testing the Killer again once I got my router upgraded. Kudos to Intel at this point though, to be able to extract a reasonable level of performance out of that shitty router even with the 6235's supposed driver issues.

As for the bluetooth mouse thing, it's a weird "trait" with ANY of the Atheros BT 4.0 bluetooth drivers (the latest Killer drivers OR the MSI provided one): The "Power Management" tab is simply NOT THERE. Not being able to turn off BT sleep = bluetooth mouse sleepdeath. I could circumvent this by reverting to the stock Windows Atheros BT drivers but even with BT sleep turned OFF, my Orochi gets "sleepkilled" once in a while.

For the Broadcom, yeah it didn't even start = faulty actually lol. Was thinking about getting a replacement, but meh, couldn't be bothered any more nowadays.

i am using 1202 too with driver from their official, but i'm not getting any disconnection problem. Am getting 2.5mb/s dl speed from my uni line at peak hour, blue tooth works well too. Probably is router?
*
Yep, probably router. What routers are you connecting to?

Right now everything's working best with the Intel though so I'll stick with that. I'll check out the Killer again later. It worked BETTER with the "connection manager" turned off though so that was peculiar.

As for bluetooth, like I said it's not really an issue unless you have a Bluetooth mouse that likes to sleep like the Orochi.

BTW, running full 16GB of DRR3L feels like... what I was running before LOL - besides being able to confidently claim warranty now lol.

so  story is you hoping killer 1202 improve you connection, but it's do the opposite. maybe there issues with killer 1202 hardware... try to exchange it.. ?
*
Nah, second hand from someone, it's cheap so WTH. From the looks of it, no real issue with the hardware though, it connects fine when it WANTS to. It's simply not compatible with my home router at the moment for long term use - the router doesn't really like the Macs and the iPhones in the house either.

So keeping it for testing later when I get around to replacing the router.

Which is actually funny when you think about it, there's a 100-page thread on the Intel forums regarding issues with the Advanced-N 6235 when I don't have much issues with it. Similarly there's one thread for issues for Killer WIFI on NBR and looks like the Killer equipped guys on this forum has no issues with their Killer cards.

Like drivers, WIFI + Router selection is another entirely different brand of black magic it seems.

Yeah, feels like the laptop is gaining 30 minutes more battery life right? LOL!

Regarding your Killer 1202, mine disconnects once in awhile too but never during gaming or surfing. Only when its idle. LOL! For an Atheros product (now part of Qualcomm), never expected it to be that bad. Granted there is no 'Killer' hardware inside there except IP stack, QoS and proprietary optimization. I think the issue is in the driver side of things.
*
More like 3 minutes extra battery life LOL.

As for my Killer, it's all fine and dandy (even sometimes quicker than the 6235) right at the very beginning after installing the drivers and all. Give it and hour and it drops connection. Reconnect a few times and it gives me a "connection limited" sign when everything else in the room is being connected fine.

It was better with the MSI drivers though - ESPECIALLY with the Killer Network Manager turned off and it's process killed. With the newest drivers from the Killer site it was just... wonky. I've read about the issues it has with 5Ghz so it might be just that.

And then there was that BT sleep issue with my Orochi, which is exacerbated with the fact that BOTH the drivers from Killer and MSI had NO "Power Management" tab under device manager AT ALL... shocking.gif shocking.gif

Feels like only LOL! Have to say like this otherwise Intel/MSI how to justify Haswell? :-p
By the way you have 32GB in 4x 8GB modules configuration right? I read every module you add into the system, you're adding 3-4W of consumption. Effectively cancelling out the advantage. HAHAHAHA!

Its definitely the driver or some service issues. I remember stock MSI drivers has the ability to turn off monitoring. With the latest driver, there is no option except disabling the services itself. But still disconnect once in awhile.

Anyway I just want to have the 5GHz feature because believe it or not, there's more than 30 Wi-Fi access point around my apartment. LOL! Its crazy! No use playing with Wi-Fi channels, they are all congested in 2.4GHz band.
*
Word bro.

In my place there's like 3-4 APs using 2.4GHz on channel 7 ALONE lol.

@Unseen83: On my GE40, 4800 = BOOM! The GE40 can BARELY run 4702 without stuff melting lol.

Just install fraps, playing Hitman Absolution on ultra, getting around 28-35 fps on average

A quick one, when playing any games I have to turn on the cooler boost?

If you can stand the hairdryer sound, why not? Lower heat is better for the lifetime of your hardware.
