This one ok ka? Sorry, me noob for Foldies...
it is ok to be noob because you will learn in progress.
There are plenty of foldie in the market which put you into confusion + hard to decide.
Just ask yourself some of these question :
What is the purpose?
- commute to work (think of the route you will use everyday), cycle leisure (around residential, park, night ride), or offroad (jungle)
How compact you want it to be?
- storage in the house, car boot, under the bed, bringing into taxi, LRT, Bus, etc
How much of weight you can take?
- Depending how frequent you need to carry up and down.
Is it ok to get a 20" bike?
- Depending on you. 26" of cos nicer to cycle.
Upgradable?
- this simply means you are not using your foldie for one purpose. You may wan to upgrade at some point to suit different purpose. It can be Bike upgrade or accessories upgrade + addition.
Before you wanna purchase a Raleigh Ugo, here is my personal review. I bought it for commute to work at the same time joining KL night ride at the same time. Everyday, the route that i always use has spilled dried cement and tiny stones which make me feel it might pierce my tire. Sometimes, there are broken glass on the road (Jalan Tun Razak). When i reach my office, i need to fold it and cover it with CarryOn cover. The folding part is not as compact as dahon/tern due nonadjustable handlebar stem. The handlebar is facing outward, not inside/in between 2 wheel when you fold it. As a result, when you put in in cover, it looks bigger. I can fit the folded one into car boot but need to adjust a little bit, and it can fit only 1. Even if you try to fold the wheel as close as possible, it is does not stand stably. A slight push will make it fall easily. The weight is about 13kg which i think it is heavy. I usually travel at 5.45am and return at 7pm, so there is a possibility to get robbed although it never happened. Hope it will never happen.
Pros:
- Cheap with considerable functional bicycle (Raleigh brand) : not so heartache if you trash it like crazy. As for me, i use it almost everyday
- Upgradable to a touring bike/offroad bike
Cons:
- Not compact as Dahon/Tern due to the handlebar stem
- Looks bulky when you fold it and put in a cover
- 13kg is quite heavy.
- Maybe not suitable to carry into LRT/Bus
- No mud guards
Nevertheless, i m will still using it. I chose Raleigh Ugo because of my budget but i have to tolerate with the downside of it.
My advice is
take your time to choose, go visit the shops, fold them, carry them and try them before you buy. This post has been edited by zeliustitan: Oct 28 2013, 01:00 PM
