Imagine the Yanks having the same consumer mentality as the Japs .. Habislah PS3

It's not about hardware, it's about games. The XBOX360 just doesn't have anything that can interest the Japs (or me, for that matter) currently. Until then, the situation won't change. And by the time there's some Japanese games out for the XBOX360, maybe it's too little too late...They need to get some quality JRPG to the japanese market by end of this year to counter the PS3 or it's all lost for the 360 there.

btw, what's the difference between a DS lite and normal DS?? Might pick up one myself as well...hee-hee.

Anyway I agree with matrix, x360 games dont appeal to the japs, probably just like how their jap rpg might not appeal to americans/europeans or whatever games the jap likes so much...

personally, for me I prefere FPS more, so might have gotten the x360 if i ever get a next gen console.

One thing I dont like about x360 is that they are still using DVD instead of the new HD-DVD, making it little bit no future proof.

Well, depends on the developers. Actually, there are many things that current graphic hardware cant render in real time. ray tracing is one good example.

So if developers decide to throw in a video as good as the Final Fantasy movie, then they will need a hell huge of a HD video file

But of course it isnt as mandatory as during the times of PS1

With or without the HD-DVD it's irrelevant. Games developer are unlikely to need so much storage other than storing FMV. With next gen consoles, there should be more real-time and less FMV. If needed, developers can always put their games on 2 or 3 DVD-9, which is probably enough for years to come.

I dun see BD-ROM or HD-DVD holds any advantage at all for next gen consoles.(other than for playing movies)

Please, some of u guys only talking and whining like a bunch of fanboys. For me, it's the games that matter, not the console. Eventhough PS2 graphics like crap compared to X-Box, but the games are much more fun and so many more..

Anyway, Sony PS3 is too expensive compared to its competitors and I think that will make them fail in the next-gen war. I am not a graphics-whore.. I think Nintendo Wii will do very well eventhough I hate Nintendo a lot (for coming out with Nintendo DS Lite, killing off GameCube, different colour for consoles, gimmick and worthless stuff like e-card reader etc.)

The best is to be neutral and own all consoles

I actually hate Sony for screwing up the F1 videogame market, screwing up the CD spine design of the Revenge of the Sith OST, screwing up the expanded OST release of The Phantom Menace, not giving us expanded releases of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith because their screwed up Phantom Menace expanded release sold like shit, screwing up Nikon with their dslr CCDs (which honestly arent THAT bad but still quite a bit behind Canon's), having stupid 8mb memory cards on the PS2 (RM60 for EIGHT MB? Gosh..) and finally screwing up the PS3 controller with no vibration.

I guess the only hope xbox360 has is its price...and if the hard headed MS guys realize they have to do everything to get Japanese rpgs on their console...then i think it will do 40-60% better in sales.

if they were coming out with hd-dvd add-on, i'm sure the usb can handle the data streams. i still believe better to get the add-on than buying a stand-alone player. cost less, and if the laser head got spoilt, thats the add-on only, not xb360.

the reason why japs don't buy an xbox 360 is not because it's lacking games. it's just that japanese hate d machine! It wouldn't even cross their minds about getting one. the ps3 market share in japan is virtually assured. Though they were also a bit shock about the price, 5 mins later they're thinking about breaking the piggy banks to buy one. MGS4 is one major factor i must say. and that's not even rpg.

If Square-Enix, CAPCOM and Konami all go XBOX360 exclusive (including all those girl-friend dating simulators makers), you still think the 360 will lose to PS3 in Japan??

It's all about games, not the hardware, but unfortunately for MS, that won't happen.

It's brandname loyalty, one way or another. (i.e., Sony wins!)

The 360 will be a certain major hit IF the Wii is briced bare-bones at 250USD. Even if the Wii is at 200, the 360, with the unannounced price cuts (rumours), would be close to it and have 150+ games and much more powerful hardware when the other 2 launches.

Remember, excluding the Japaneese, the Wii's other demographic is non-gamers besides the ones who play Zelda and Mario. To them, 200 is too steep of a price for a novelty-wannabe-item that you can't show off. (Cue iPod?)

If MS cared so much about Japan, they should have done regional launches there first. And rushed DoA4. And Enchanted Arms. And Blue Dragon.

Now, if you can get next-generation graphics with the ability to play 100+ games, including INNOVATIVE ones like the arcade Geometry Wars, why not shell out 50 more bucks?

The common user will certainly have that mindset or so (Wii ain't worth it) unless Nintendo quickly does extreme advertisements like the iPod did.

Now for the gameplay...
Is swinging your arms around trying to play tennis with Wii Sports, or using a analog joypad playing Rockstar's Table Tennis fun? Gameplay doesn't need to always come from the hardware. Which one "feels" non-gimmicky and normal? It's a GAME. Not motion capture.

The Demographic that bought the DS weren't mostly non-gamers, they were gamers and despite the fact that unorthodox games like Brain Age recieved some applause, non-gamers didn't rush to the DS for it. Now the Wii doesn't have more unorthodox games. It doesn't have those Popcap games people are crazy about, too. And all you get- Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Excite Truck, for 200 bucks, seems destined for poor gamers, not non gamers.

Prediction in Japan this Q4:
PS3- 1-2m shipped, almost sold out. (Give us more of Japaneese Giant Crabs with weak points )
Wii- ??? shipped, certain sell out.
360- Sorry, 1000 units?

USA/EU
PS3- sells, but not totally sold. (600 bucks/ 425 pounds isn't enough to justify price)
Wii- Sold out.
360- Sold out.

Note the people buying the Wii are hardcore gamers. Casual people won't camp at stores.

most arcade games dont use the conventional controller consoles use...
the WII's controller,IMO,does,to a certain extent bring the joy of the arcades into homes...

AFAIK,the DS never shipped with the games you mentioned in the first place
they came out later...so who's to know what will come out for the wii?
given time,developers would find more ways to play with the WII's controller...

i doubt the ps3 will be a total sell out-many are still pissed over the price

Xbox Lacks of Famous Games tittles...this is one of the factor why....Games Like Resident Evil Series ,Final Fantasy series,Devil may cry series,MGS series and more..

How does the Xbox lack in game titles? Even if they are behind, it isnt a huge gap. GTA and RE are now cross platform, leaving only Final Fantasy (any new news about SE considering other platforms to release on as well?) and MGS. And how can you dismiss Halo just like that? Its an absolute killer franchise.

Remember Nintendo?? They're japanese company dude. So, i predict the WII will really kick PS3 arse real hard this time round.

MS deserves the pathetic reception there. They never learn their lessons. They need JRPG titles like Blue Dragon and others for Japanese to take interest. There really is no reason to launch the XBOX360 there without proper support. They could have wait until a few major games are ready before pushing it out.

I meant in sales. Halo's level designs were repetitive no doubt especially indoors but the combat was always varied and excellent. Havent played Halo 2 yet though

u need a stepdown adaptor...bout games...u can buy asian version..coz japan version is kinda xpensive..unless ur colleague can find cheap games in japan..dunno how much is xbox360 in japan but in yahoo auction japan is so cheap ...like u can get it around 25,000 up to 30,000yen..meaning around RM790-RM950 (premium set)..so good luck..
