a hearty good luck to you guys!

something to note here, when you eventually join the govt, be prepared to be looked down by the civil servants who didn't rise through the PTD programme. the govt culture puts more emphasis on seniority compared to competency, and a lot of them don't feel good with younger people holding better posts.

and in the future, you guys will be the ones handing out contracts and business opportunities biggrin.gif

I am not sure but does it mean if your opinion somehow differed from theirs, you won't attain the job even if you are eligible for the position?

The panel's looking for character. Dun worry too much about facts, but U must at least know basic things (Rukunegara, Negaraku, etc). & U must be aware of the current important events. Read the news everyday for at least 2 months before the interview, watch the news on TV, especially the RTM1 programme Bersama Menteri & forums on current issues.

The thing is, once U pass the exam, U've got to be prepared. U must set Ur mind that PTD is what U want to be. That means Ur preparations must be geared towards achieving that. Dun apply just for suka2, U'll be putting "pasir dlm periuk nasi org lain" (as the former UDPA director used to say it).

I went for the exam June 2005, PAC in August 2005, interview in November 2005, failed. Then June this year I was called for another interview, passed, went for PTD Unggul (orientation for new PTDs) in Intim July this year, now I'm in the Treasury (or MOF) as Penolong Setiausaha. Syukur.... after 5 years in the private sector, now I get to serve my country...

Kalu dlm kes Kementerian, ade dua, cam MOF ni dikira sbg kementerian utama, sbb direct bawah PM. Kitorg biasenya attend meeting (dgn Ketua Unit), kengkadang buat minit, peh tu attend function, buat kertas kerja, buat proposal. Basically U akan assist Ketua Unit/Jabatan dlm kerja2 dia la.

Kat SUK Negeri lain plak. ADO mmg kerja berat, sbb deal dgn masyarakat setempat. Kena jadik Presiden persatuan badminton daerah la, rasmi sukan sekolah la, visit projek site la, attend kenduri kawin la, mcm2. So PR kena bagus. & dugaan mmg byk, sbb kita biasanya akan in charge projek2, so kontraktor2 akan dtg mencarik la. Iman kena kuat. Kalu tak...hanyut. Kalu ikut senior2, jadik PTD ni, skali dlm kerjaya kita mesti akan rase jadik ADO...

So, camtu la. Jgn ingat masuk govt buleh rilek2, no such thing. In fact, aku rase aku lebih busy dr masa aku kat swasta. That's the reality.

It depends a lot on your placement. Normally in most ministries, PTD is everywhere, normally from Penolong Setiausaha/Penolong Pengarah & up, all are PTD. So U won't feel special or envied at. Best case in point, MOF: out of 2000 over staff, almost 900 are PTD. Kalu kat SUK Negeri/Cawangan agensi negeri (Kastam, Imigresen) or Pejabat Daerah, PTD mmg sikit, so that will make U be treated differently. Ade tempat kat negeri, siap ade Kelab PTD lagi. Kalu kat ministry jgn harap la ade mende2 camtu...

Sebenarnya camni. Disebabkan aku skang dok di HR, so aku taula byk mende ni. Maknanya, kalu ko masuk skang umur 25, umur 37 ko dah buleh jadik ketua jabatan/unit. Skim2 lain, cthnya F (IT), ko masuk start dari F29 (Penolong Pegawai Sistem Maklumat). Ade aku punya member, dah dok kat F41 tu 8 thn dah. Itu yg jadik staff lain (dr skim lain) berbulu tu.

Tapi kalu kita buleh kontrol staff betul2, earn their respect, biasenya takde masalah. Cuma jgn be too nice sampai kena pijak kapla la. Sendrik mau ingat la kan.

Actually mende ni aku dah msg kat number8, tp aku rase aku post gak kat sini, utk pengetahuan am.

Congrats, just ingat yg ramai apply utk mende ni, cuma berapa kerat je yg dapat, bersyukur bebyk.

Tips Utk PTD Unggul :

Prepare utk class whole day sampai 10.30 mlm. The day will usually start at 6.45 rasenya, senaman pagi or as they call it, suaifizikal. Biasenya aerobik la, atau diorg bawak lari. Bawak t-shirt putih 3-4 helai utk mende ni. T-shirt putih suma, takleh ade design2 kat badan. Kalu stakat ade line kat kolar dgn lengan tu ok.

First 2 days ialah aktiviti kumpulan, diorg akan divide groups, 1st day diff group dgn 2nd day. 1st day diorg akan buat ice-breaking la, sampai mlm. 2nd day ade byk presentation kumpulan, kena buat logo group, lagu, visi, etc. Utk 2 hari ni pakaian ialah pakaian sukan.

Start 3rd day onwards, ialah ceramah2. So biasela, ade ceramah yg best, ade yg tak best. Bawakla gula2 bebyk, asam ke, mmg ngantuk gila punya. Dahla tido lewat kan. Highlights ceramah yg best : integriti, penampilan diri, peh tu last 3 days bila top guns INTAN dgn JPA dtg. Kengkadang KPPA pun akan dtg, cuma utk batch aku dia tak dpt dtg. Pakaian utk hari2 ceramah ni ialah pakaian pejabat la, baju putih/cerah, dgn sluar gelap (hitam atau very dark blue).

Every ptg akan ade suai fizikal, aerobik gak. Towards the end nanti ade la games, bola etc. Kitorg dulu ade friendly dgn INTIM, so korg mungkin ade friendly dgn IKWAS la. So kalu main bola bawakla boot. Pengarah IKWAS tu, Tuan Zaini ex-jiran aku.

Setiap event ade Pengarah dia, kena lantik AJK suma la. Aku dulu Pengarah Sukan. Walaupun ade event yg tak abis, tp dikira sukan aku tu success la jugak. Dlm events ni, the best thing is to take part actively, sbb kalu PP (Penyelaras Projek) & PPK kenal korg (atas good reasons), senang hidup mase DPA nanti.

Tak tahula kat IKWAS camna, tapi kat INTIM, mmg kitorg tak sempat nak basuh baju. Sterika ade, tp biasela kan, 350 or nak guna 4 sterika, mende lain yg berasap. So, cara aku, baju keje tu rendam je air sabun, bilas lebih kurang, peh tu spray Febreeze. Febreeze ni teman sejati aku kat PTD Unggul. Ape mende yg berbau je, kat badan ke, kat baju ke, spray Febreeze. Beli la botol besar.

Itu je la kot. Kalu ko single lagi, jgn risau, mase PTD Unggul byk gila aweks yg qualified. Pilih je la. Tinggal diorg nak ke tanak kat ko la. Heheh. Good luck.

Hi tenno, thanks for the information shared on PTD unggul. But after 10 days PTD unggul, what are the next activities? Apologize as I gets confuse with others posting read before...

After 10 days PTD unggul, are we going to allocated to work at a certain department? How about DPA? Are all new PTD have to go thru 3 weeks of police, army and bomba training?

Ok. The PTD Unggul is basically general orientation course for new PTD officers. In govt terms, they call it Induksi Umum. There's another induksi course y'all have to go, the Induksi Khusus. Induksi Khusus will be in your respective future departments. It can be before or after DPA. But remember, Induksi Khusus is one of the requirements for y'all to confirmed in service. So if any of y'all should be posted in training unit (of any ministry), do urself, and Ur friends a favor by organizing the Induksi Khusus as soon as possible.

In the last day of PTD Unggul, there'll be a ceremony. In this ceremony, Ur letter of posting, or Arahan Penempatan will be handed out to U. Y'all filled up a form in the 1st/2nd day of PTD Unggul, stating Ur preferred Ministry right ? Not everybody will get what they want. Y'all be posted according to vacancy, requirements by ministries, and qualification. Some of y'all will be posted to Sabah, Sarawak, or miles away from Ur home. This is especially true for those Ministries with state offices, like KPDNHEP, Ministry of Transort and KKR.

Once U get your postings, U'll have to report to the respective departments, & U'll be put into units. Usually the HR dept of Ministries will conduct a simple interview to see where they can put U. U'll work there until the day U'll be called to attend DPA, usually 5-6 months after PTD Unggul. Attending DPA is like attending a long course, so U'll get a letter from Intan, then U'll have to get Ur HoD to release U.

I'll be going for my DPA on 15th January 2007. The current PTD Unggul batch will be reporting to Ministries in the 1st week of January, so maybe I'll get to meet some of y'all. Anybody posted to MOF, y'all be reporting to my Dept, on the 4th floor of MOF Complex. If U want U can look for me, Ikhwan of Unit 5.

Ok, hope this helps.

Ooops. I forgot to answer the question about the Bomba training etc. In DPA, there will be 5 outdoor modules : Police, Army, Bomba, OBS (Outbound School) and Keluarga Angkat. Normally each module will take a week to 10 days. I've heard so much about the modules & preparing myself for it. Kinda excited actually, especially the OBS. I hope my sports background will help me when the time comes.
