To me I think better off to get Android TV stick as it is a standalone device which it can do much more things than ChromeCast can do.
Pricing wise not that much different from ChromeCast. |

very strong potential further enhance features via 3rd party apps support such as phone to chromecast, cloud to chromecast, etc... many interesting feature or new idea will continue pop-out from devs like Koush, but they sure ack. the power limit of chromecast as spec listed: - SoC: Marvell 88DE3005-A1, Single Core - RAM: 512 MB (Micron MT41K256M16HA-125:E) - Storage: 2 GB (Micron MT29F16G08CBACA) - OS: based on Chrome OS although is much less powerful than any regular Android TV stick that we already see long time ago source from china market, but because chromecast is from google and attract many top dev contribution. anyway, diff ppl diff taste; some ppl prefer hardware spec first but apps & update support are more important for certain ppl. |

Just received the Chromecast yesterday. First Impression is very convenient just cast what i am watching in youtube from table or phone to TV. Quality of video is very good if the video is HD. I tried to play the MP4 1080 from Chrome Browser to chromecast and the performance is bad. 720p below are working well without lag. overall, loving it.

QUOTE(mtxx @ Jul 27 2013, 05:03 PM) Been searching for reviews. Thanks for the video, didn't expect that a cheap $35 dongle can do so many things,BTW I placed my order from Dark Devon already This is the best I've seen. Awesome video, very detail explanation and even got Q&A session at the back which answer most FAQ At the end of video got a trick to make it stream local content from your laptop also. I feel like getting one. |

Cyanogenmod developer koush dutta, not sure the spelling of his name, Anyway, that guy manage to make every app that produce video or audio castable using chrome cast. Awesome job. |

Just received mine. Having problem connecting it to the router. I'm on Maxis Home Fibre, using the bundled Thomson TG784n router. Anyone can help? I have enabled UPnP and Multicast. Cannot find the setting for IGMP.
I dusted off the old streamyx router (with TM interface), and that one connects well. EDIT: Gave up. Used the streamyx router as a bridge, and set up from there. All done. Definitely an issue with the thomson router. This post has been edited by DJFoo000: Aug 20 2013, 05:24 PM |

hey guys, just got myself a chromecast too. Any of you managed to get it to show netflix? I managed to get netflix on my laptop's chrome via mediahint, but it son't cast, even the cast tab mode, because its using silverlight.
Googling says need to use DD-WRT to force forward the DNS, but it seems like I will loose HyppTV if I flash DD-WRT on my dlink router. Any other options? Oh yeah, for those of you who are comparing this with android usb stick, the difference of this is that the chromecast is built for sharing, in that anyone in the house with any device, can stream content to the chromecast, compared to a android usb stick, where if you want to load content, you need to login as the user first. Just say YouTube, I can load youtube on my phone, checked the "Recommended For You" section, and just cast, a friend with iPhone came over, and he can do the same. With android usb stick, will need to see the youtube title, and search for it again. This post has been edited by kiwlm: Oct 4 2013, 11:06 PM |
