hey guys, just got myself a chromecast too. Any of you managed to get it to show netflix? I managed to get netflix on my laptop's chrome via mediahint, but it son't cast, even the cast tab mode, because its using silverlight.
Googling says need to use DD-WRT to force forward the DNS, but it seems like I will loose HyppTV if I flash DD-WRT on my dlink router. Any other options?
Oh yeah, for those of you who are comparing this with android usb stick, the difference of this is that the chromecast is built for sharing, in that anyone in the house with any device, can stream content to the chromecast, compared to a android usb stick, where if you want to load content, you need to login as the user first. Just say YouTube, I can load youtube on my phone, checked the "Recommended For You" section, and just cast, a friend with iPhone came over, and he can do the same. With android usb stick, will need to see the youtube title, and search for it again.

QUOTE(owentan328 @ Oct 4 2013, 11:17 PM) hey guys. where did you guys got your chromecast from? recommendations on the place to buy or order? I got mine from https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2898762&hl=Was just playing with ChromeCast and streaming. Found out the following: 1. Can't actually get netflix on chromecast without some sort of VPN. You can watch netflix easily using VPN on android, but it just won't cast. 2. Google Play Movies does work properly, as long as you are able to get the movies/tv series on your phone, you can cast it.

QUOTE(mtxx @ Jul 10 2014, 05:33 PM) anyone tried mirroring using chrome cast? i saw news that it is supported now. how is the framerate? I tested before playing a video from Newstand. The video is ok, but audio stutters. Guess for showing pics its ok but not for videos. Anyone of you put a chromecast in a Sound Amp or Sound Bar?

QUOTE(shahruls @ Sep 5 2014, 02:08 PM) How chromecast perform for netflix? Planning to get it for netflix,YouTube to my non smart tv Netflix is the main reason I got chromecast. You will need the unlocator/unblock.us service though, I signed up unlocator. Then you will need to follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2435579

QUOTE(shahruls @ Sep 6 2014, 12:55 AM) Tq for tips, still need read around, especially how to use VPN services. I am using Asus rt12 cheap router. Just need to use the static routes for Chromecast to work. Don't need to flash with custom firmware or anything like that.

QUOTE(chester91 @ Sep 26 2014, 06:03 PM) as I understand this method of getting netflix to work here in Malaysia is by using the Unlocator. However this only free for 7 days. Are there any other methods which are free? Yeah, unlocator, should be faster than the VPN method. Not aware of any other free methods. Both DNS and VPN services need to pay.

hmm, I never needed to disable igmp for my previous router (dlink from unifi, orange white) one and my current ASUS. Maybe your issue was something else?

QUOTE(hidayatte @ Oct 14 2015, 12:12 AM) How many of you guys have tried Netflix and Hulu on the chromecast? Quality is really good. Really love it Yeah, netflix is the reason why I got chromecast. Now I have the Sony Android TV, and can run netflix from there, so don't need the chrome cast anymore. Android TV's netflix also requires less "hacking" on the router for using unlocator. And the best thing with Android TV vs chromecast is, to pause, I don't need to find my phone, press power button, unlock, then pause. Just pick up the remote control and press Pause. hehe.

QUOTE(devilywan88 @ Nov 16 2015, 07:38 PM) what model is ur TV? Thinking to get android TV next year. KDL-50W800C. Dont need the 4k, so get the cheaper one without 4k. One thing chromecast still beats Android TV is the backdrop. This Android TV doesn't have backdrop support for the Google Photos.

QUOTE(devilywan88 @ Nov 17 2015, 06:54 PM) how's the performance? coz last time Sony smart TV chipset is very slow one. The main interface is a bit laggy. But no lag in Netflix YouTube and play music. That's all that matters.

QUOTE(ZzZzz... @ Apr 26 2017, 08:47 AM) lel..gt samsung smart tv....can already cast something from ios youtube to the tv...wat more extra feature that this chromecast have that samsung smart tv no?? I have a Sony TV which runs the Android TV platform that have Chromecast embedded. The things that I usually on my TV: Google Play Movies Google Play Music Netflix Spotify YouTube I believe some of the above is also available in Samsung Smart TV, but I feel Samsung Smart TV platform is running a loosing game, coz the reach is more for developers to develop for Chromecast rather than Samsung Smart TV platform.
