really pissed off.  I arrived at 10.30pm and only to find out later that the show has already done at 10pm...

What a rip off.

I would recommend u getting the D3200... Since u r more to landscape, the extra megapixels will be useful.... icon_idea.gif

Don't think a newbie would need the 24mp (even pros don't need the 24mp as a must). Both cameras are good, just the d3200 is newer compared to the d5100.

I shot with D5100 mainly for landscape, check out my Flickr if you want to see some sample shots. In short, both are good.

To me, extra megapixels might come in handy for cropping purpose. 24 mp will help to retain the details with slight loss. Although, I don't think you should make cropping as a habit so that you can train yourself to compose better photos.

Both are user friendly, no problem there.

And what do you mean by "last for 3-5 years?" The lifespan? Or the urge to upgrade?
I owned D5100 only for 3 months, already feeling to upgrade to D7100 for in-body AF and those mad numerous focus points. Good thing I'm dead poor student, otherwise I'll go gears nut. tongue.gif
*
Most people just buy DSLR then upload photos to FB or Flickr with resized. So actually 24mp is very overkill for such small sensor.

Look, feel and handling is different. Try hold one Canon, and you'll know  tongue.gif
Wait, I mean Canon DSLR yeah  tongue.gif

The menu layout also different, give different feel in terms of usage.

Personally, prefer Nikon's body design (more macho hahaha), handling and feels also better. The menu layout, buttons and design also nicer. When you try Canon's layout, try to remember when you first handle a Nikon to compare.

One thing about Canon's menu, is there quick way to delete a picture? For Nikon, you just hit the "trash can" button twice. For Canon, you need to scroll the option to delete?
*
For canon, you just tap the delete button then click right and press OK. A very quick process once you learnt how to do it.

haha all like spreading poison to me haha
but still making choices NEX 5 image quality like can match with D3200
OMG how to choose T T
*
Let me tell you something, IQ isn't everything. A camera is not all about image quality, you need to consider other thigns too. for example the ease of use, the grip, the ergonomics and such. both the NEX and Nikon are good cameras, but NEX is still a new system, so choices of lenses and accessories will be really limited.

A touchscreen is a moot point in a DSLR dude, think of it, one of the main reasons of purchasing one is due to that optical viewfinder+phase detection sensor combo.
Using a touchscreen to focus on a DSLR is painful at best, if you are sure that is going to be your main method of focusing, just get the NEX 5R can already.

In case I'm not clear enough, using the viewfinder to focus on a DSLR is much faster than using it's live view+touchscreen (if available)
*
haha it was slow, but the 70D changed everything brows.gif
Spreading canon poison on nikon thread, don't bash me tongue.gif

My friend tried, he said the smoothest AF tracking ever. Is it true?
*
yeap yeap nod.gif

Canon focused on movie technology these few years and the dual pixel AF on the 70D is really groundbreaking, the first DSLR in the world that is able to do smooth and quick focusing even in movie mode.

Glad it helps you. Canon side have it. Not sure with Sony though, never tried it. Correct me if I'm wrong, guys. smile.gif

If you mean focus motor, no, Canon cameras all rely on motor in lens to do focusing. There's no G lens or D lens type of seperation in Canon lenses, so all EF/ EFS lenses can autofocus by themselves.

mingyuyu o O
means they depends on the lens autofocus
not depends on the DSLR autofocus motor
so  almost same as D3xxx or D5xxx no autofocus motor and they are depends the lens see got autofocus or not?
correct me if i am wrong ^^
*
yeah, that's for canon side. actually for D3xxx and D5xxx, get a G lens and you will be doing fine, most newer nikon lenses have autofocus anyways.

QUOTE(copperwire93 @ Sep 25 2013, 10:57 PM)
Gosh, I almost give the man wrong info then. Thanks for clearing things up.

@silrave
So there you go, either sides, they are in the same league.

Under 2k, I would recommend, D3200, D5100.
Probably I would choose D3100 too and invest more on lens.

I would upgrade in 2-3 years to come for more powerful Nikon line up. Like D7100 for example.

For canon side,
I would pick 600D or even 550D, there's no point to invest on 100D, 650D and 700D. They are basically the same models to me.

*
hehe if he wants to get Canon, I have a 550D and 18-135 that i am letting go which suits his budget really nice brows.gif

copperwire93 i think might be the D5100 cause got the flip screen XD
but D3200 also temping cause the megapixel and newer model a bit today also go and hold on it XD this 2 model really ngam feel xD
for lens.... say honest no so fast change i think kit lens should be enough is it ?
mingyuyu actually saw ur thread b4 but ur price like making me more wan get a new nikon DSLR leh XD
Agito666 hmm the D lens is it need auto set exposure those thing and G lens just choose the mode it will auto set?
*
haiya, believe me, you won't need the extra megapixels, they are just for marketing purpose to attract newbies that think megapixels = everything. comparing the d5100 with the d3200, i would say go for the d5100, extra functions. the new functions on the d3200 are quite useless imo, especially those scene modes which are made for newbies who bought a dslr but didn't even bothered to learn anything.

actually mine very new also, just bought 1 year ago, too bad canon introduced 2 new models in just one year shakehead.gif

when using D lens, you need to set the aperture value manually on the lens instead of electronically as controled by the camera.

This is what I mean by overwhelming yourself  doh.gif  doh.gif

These guys here all have experience with DSLRs already.
And their advice also applies to such that prime lenses are useful, but only if you know how to use it properly

silrave You on the other hand obviously are very new to this, so just get the kit lens first, the versatility does help you out especially at this stage.

Once you are moderately acquainted with using a DSLR, then only you start thinking of other stuff.

now he's like reading how to drift and what kind of tuning to get the best performance out of a car while he doesn't even have a car license.

I would say stop asking too many questions, get a camera and learn. photography isn't all about gear and theory, you can write out a lot of info and read a lot of reviews, but that would be pointless if you don't even know how to handle a camera properly and take nice pictures.

haiya, you really need to stop asking about everything, it won't help you really much.

just go to a camera shop and get the camera brand new. worry so much about everything is only wasting your time and effort.

So last Sunday my gf shoot her friend's ROM with my D700 instead of her D90, tomorrow for another maternity shoot she prefers the D700 over the D90 now. Seems like when you go FX, you never turn back... even for my gf whose a casual shooter dry.gif.

I actually don't find Digicolor to sell a lot of good stuffs imo, most things they sell are from China. If you want to hunt something that's from higher tier, normally they don't have it.

Haha but they say get a better filter ?
Now confusing should go 1xx or cheap filter
*
got money then go for better one lo. you not buying super high grade lens also, that little difference in IQ won't make your pictures any better also. i used rm60 filter on my 18-135, I did some test before, actually the IQ didn't drop that much, just more prone to flare.
