sorry noob here...what is the difference between byond pvr and samsung pvr? am just upgraded from very old non-hd decoder to byond decoder
*
PVR - Personal Video Recorder (You can record the tv program, rewind the missed action on live tv program, watch one channel while recording other channel, pause live tv action etc etc) WIKIPEDIA

Byond pvr is the marketing term that astro adopted for their PVR service, while Samsung PVR and the older one, Pace PVR is the company who make the hardware unit to Astro.

quick question here, one of the astro maintenance guy told my dad that it is recommended not to switch off the astro decoder for some reasons.

i'm using a pvr latest decoder.

i'm just curious, any reason for not switching off the decoder at all? even at night?

So that it can do auto update when needed. You should be able to turn it of overnight, but do not turn it off for extended period, like a week or months.

Pace PVR: First released in 2010 and has a slower processor than samsung pvr. Manufactured by Technicolor or more widely known as Thompson
Samsung PVR: Released in 2013 and has a better and faster processor than pace PVR. Comes with built in wifi as well. Manufacuted by Samsung Obviously.

Reason is you can get it updated when its idle and you can record your midnight show. Please, just dont switch off your electrical appliances like decoder or router. Thats not going to cause the electric bill sky high. Only air cond will

Why would you even want to turn it off overnight when the decoder has recordings to do.

I rather Unifi+Byond PVR over iPTV for the low ping of UniFi. Astro HD:Normal Assteruk Baeyong HD with no recording service. VOD: a service available for PVR and IPTV customers that you can catch up missed shows or download movies that you have to pay for provided you have Wifi conected to your pvr decoder if you use normal Pvr service

Ok good news for us pvr users then! And itts phantom recording haha, not ghost recording lol

UPDATE: if you have tried force updating and see the number on the top right corner stands for hardware revision number or model. Not the firmware code that it is updating to, my bad
So far the codes i know
BL2V-V1.38-Pace Decoder
BL2V-20A-Samsung Decoder

What if I dont have recording to do? Plus i think decoders/routers can get really hot over time.

If you dont do recording its ok. Just do a force update every week. My router and FTTH model used to stack together and the heat is enough to cook something. I do not turn it off because i need to use it before i sleep so as my family members. Not even a reboot every week

Yes, its pace decoder. You can also refer the label below your decoder.

Just woke up from sleep and as usual i turn on my astro as well. Then auto update suddenly began. So now i'm riding on the new interface. What can i say about the new interface is it really above my initial impression. This new interface seems to responds out as smooth as silk and there's are no lags noticed at all unlike old interface.

Changing the channel also became more smoother than before. It responds to the remote request in real time compared to the previous interface. Unfortunately, since i didn't subscribe for hd service, it means that my interface will not be as clear as those with hd services activated. Perhaps, i should consider to upgrade my subscription from basic family to family hd as well ... laugh.gif

Btw, im using the first gen pvr, made by pace. Staying somewhere in the northern region of perak.

My Pace PVR also has been updated, in Sabah.

But the nasty HD to SD channel change bug is still there where pictures will be distorted and not playing except the sound. In the old UI i just press the home button and the problem is solved but now, i have to restart the decoder.

I didn't encounter that kind of problem at all even though I'm also using first gen Pace PVR. Have you contact astro regarding that matter?

It did not just happen with my pvr, my mum's normal decoder and two of my relatives decoders are also having the same problem.
