Still contemplating whether should I jump to U-Mobile from Celcom. Celcom 3G has been acting wonky for the past years and I think I've had enough. I want to change but don't know which is less horrible. U-Mobile looks like a good option but I am not convinced.

Help, anyone?  icon_question.gif
*
If you wanted a good coverage, then Celcom would provide you with a better coverage.
However, U Mobile's 3g is pretty good with a pretty nice price as well but the coverage and speed varies from location to location.

The factors that can be considered whilst changing to another provider is a lot so think carefully laugh.gif

Last but not least, please refer to any of your friends who are in your area and ask them of the coverage and speed before actually buying to prevent yourself from regretting afterwards thumbup.gif

Or just buy prepaid sim and test out at your normal spots. It lasts 30 days with RM5 credit inside (cost RM8). Do speedtest at home, at work/school, etc. etc.

I did that for 2 weeks. Because not using it (just speedtesting and then browse to some websites to test the 'feel') it lasted me more than 2 weeks. RM5 credit is 100 MB on pay-per-use.

Same applies to any operator. What for ask ask when you can test?
*
yeah, agreed. thanks for the suggestion smile.gif

QUOTE(noruazumi @ Jul 25 2013, 08:53 AM)
Yeah, you read me well. I rely heavily on the coverage whenever I travel. To make things worse, I rely heavily on the Internet connection too for my emails and stuffs.  rclxub.gif
I am doing that but now only DiGi been tested. Seems far more responsive than Celcom 3G. Will get U-Mobile prepaid sim and give it a spin first. Haish, what a tough life decision lah.  sweat.gif
*
Probably that its location wise but DiGi's internet plan hasn't been working quite well for me while U Mobile's Internet plan works wonder for me.

worse come to worst, you can always have a dual setup though(celcom + umobile), so you get the coverage + the internet speed icon_rolleyes.gif

And, it is just a 8 ringgit decision though, not too tough la laugh.gif

Can prepaid users get any benefits from the U Card?
*
Yeah, you can get points by reloading smile.gif 1 point = 1 sen (100 points = RM1)
http://www.u.com.my/ucard/overview

With enough points, you can redeem something by using the points smile.gif
http://www.u.com.my/ucard/promotion
http://www.u.com.my/ucard/redemption

However, I haven't been able to register with my Chatime BCard, so I have not tried this yet as of now. I guess today's a good day to "kacau" the support team laugh.gif

I used to spend 28 ringgit per month. Now 48. To get 1500 points...I. Would need 31 months sad.gif
*
yeah. that's business alright brows.gif brows.gif laugh.gif

btw, I've noticed a misleading information whereby the picture shows that its 1-2 point(depending on your number of year(s) of subscription) per RM 1 reload while the text below shows that 1 cent = 1 point so RM 1 = 100 points instead of 1 point.

Not sure if it fits your usecase, but at rm5 per month(umobile -> umobile) or rm8 per month(umobile -> other operators), you can get either 100 minutes for the former and 80 minutes for the latter smile.gif

i am thinking to port to either digi or umobile.
looks like digi also competetive now.
*
For me, my personal experience is that if you don't use DiGi's internet package then its okay laugh.gif . DiGi's internet package has been slow for me while U Mobile's internet package can give me at least 1mbps so laugh.gif

p/s: but of course this is dependent on location, so, what happened to me may not happen to you and vice versa laugh.gif

now I'm thinking of gathering a location -> speed data so that other potential customers can have a look at it and probably use it as a gauge as different areas have different internet speeds icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi, i am about to mnp to u mobile after my hotlink youth club expires this raya, somehow i kinda confuse with the umobile topup and buy internet system.. So, correct me if i am wrong

if i were to subscribe to umi 28,
1. I can buy any umobile pack or mnp to umobile, no specific sim for each plan, i can change to other plan if i want to increase or decrease free calls.. However no free calls balance will be carry forwaed if change plan.
2. Since i want to use the umi28, i need to topup rm30 at least, this will give me rm30 credit, plus 15% and 90 days of validity..
3. After topup rm30, i can use the credit to buy the umi28 plan using phone. So i left with balance rm2credit and 90 days of validity.

correct? Or is it buy validity and buy plan using two different payments? That is what i confused about..

4. After a month, i need to buy internet again to reactivate the umi28.. If not, i will not able to use the internet.
so basically if i follow the free sms and calls guideline, rm30 should be enough for a month right? No extra cost..
Correct?
*
1. True
2. What is the plus 15% about?
3. True and somewhat true. After you reloaded RM30 and subscribed for the UMI28 plan, your balance will be deducted by 28. For the validity, it is true for the first time(or after a long while) that if you have no existing validity, otherwise it will just be adding 30 days into it, since you'll reload every 1 month. And no, 'buying' validity and the data plan are under the same thing.
4. Yes

*
U Card is a type of B Card(used in Starbucks, Chatime, etc) but for U Mobile users only.

You can collect points by reloading and redeem something out of it.

do i hv to subscribe every month?or once subscribe it ll be forever unless u unsuscribe back.thanks!
*
It is the latter. You'll be subscribed for it for every month unless that you do not have the enough of amount of credit for your data plan.

fyi, there'll be a notification to remind you to reload in the case that you don't remember when will it expire.

I hope umobile can do postpaid rm35 for exmple with free cl n sms..
bcos the next postpaid plan is too expensive for me as a student sigh..
always overbudget my bill sad.gif  but so far so good the coverage at skudai, jb, shah alam, klang, bangi biggrin.gif
*
Why do you prefer postpaid btw? The billing statement? Call history? More quota(extra 250mb for those who pay via debit card automatically for each of the month) or what not?

Haa i dont even knw about more quota...sigh..too many things i xeven know...
Just because its 1gb...but unfortunately no free call..like 30mins free call ke 60mins pun jadilah...
Now im thinking should i stick with this postpaid or i shud change to prepaid 28..the package of prepaid 28 is kinda convincing for me as a student...only because 500mb..

What is your usage(number of calls, frequency of calls, number of smses, monthly data usage) right now? Let me decipher it and see whether its suitable for you to go for prepaid or not laugh.gif

Hm wcypierre, i dont know the specific amount...
Sms not so much i think..but i prefer sms rather than call..and because already hv 3g, im using wasap LINE n viber apps to msg...sometimes i  cl using LINE&viber apps
.but in emergency cases, still i need to call using voice call...when i xturn on my 3g because of low batt..call mum n dad, urgent calls, and when the apps is not work well always drop call....
I only use umobile for around 4months. 1st  month i inserted the sim in my nexus 7 thus the bill is rm28. Next month i switched it to my iphone, the bill around rm50, then 50 and latest is rm44(not pay it yet).for last 2months umobile charged me for rm3 because of bill statement which is i said ixwant the bill are post to my house.but still they post it.i did cl the customer service, she said on july bill there is no need to pay rm3.
So, now im thinking, i need free calls too..im still thinking to sacrifice the postpaid n get the prepaid..but i want to stick my current number because im using this  num since 2004
Hm..thank you so much..need frens to gv opinion..btw while im at home, i hv unifi..
Thanks wcypierre.nice to have u around,
*
okay, then give me an approximate value of your calls(fees spent on it) and smses(fees spent on it), just an approximate value, no need to be exact laugh.gif

well, providing the community with a better choice is always good, no? laugh.gif
