QUOTE(1024kbps @ Mar 18 2014, 01:46 PM) There is a thing called hibernation, im pretty sure many people didnt know it, resume from hibernation is actually very fast even with slow machine. yeah if you're talking about resuming OS sessions using hibernation. i still use it for older machines that have no ssd heheThere are many reason to use SSD, not just for faster boot time. |

QUOTE(kherel77 @ Mar 23 2014, 06:00 PM) Thanks for suggestion bro...i'd tried with Gpart, but something happened in the middle & all mess-up. Did fresh install last night & it turn okay now... i compared your readings with other online results. they are almost the same (and yours is much better).Still that Agility3 performance is under-spec... ![]() |

QUOTE(kherel77 @ Mar 23 2014, 06:37 PM) yeah your score is 458. normally it's like 415 to 420 from what i have observed.as for RST drivers, to get the best one it will be a trial and error process. to me the msahci driver is just fail-safe (i.e. all other options failed, because it's quite old). intel RST on the other hand is still in active maintenance and development. |

QUOTE(icecreamcake @ Mar 23 2014, 10:05 PM) Hi guys, i m planning to add a msata SSD to my laptop(y400). i have 3 plextor m5m in laptops (almost a year; no issue so far) I think the warranty period is the same for both.Which model should I buy in term of performance and warranty, crucial m500 or plextor m5m ? QUOTE(marfccy @ Mar 24 2014, 04:44 PM) man.. first day Intel 530 owner.. and already having problems with the AHCI config a better practice imo is change bios settings, install ssd, then reinstall OS. went on boot loop when changed from IDE to AHCI then attempt to install AHCI drivers from ASUS, platform not supported -.- did you try the drivers (chipset, RST) from intel? so far i have no issue with w7/8/8.1. |

QUOTE(marfccy @ Mar 24 2014, 07:05 PM) i tried changing before installing the SSD maybe this post, http://jackngblog.blogspot.com/2012/07/sol...dows-7-x64.html could be of help.same endless boot looop i suspected the drivers as i didnt install the Intel/ASUS RAID/AHCI drivers. but the driver setup keep saying 'this platform not supported' oh saw that as well, tried but no msahci, so i use storahci changed the value to 1 (default was 0) and nothing happened |

QUOTE(marfccy @ Mar 24 2014, 10:40 PM) wait, this is already using ramdisk? or still SSD? it's not ramdisk. it's ssd with primocache enabled, a ram-based caching for disks. usually i do this to my hdd's. i dont quite catch what you mean by if i have more ram since it's ram-based, you need some spare ram space. |

go for m6s if you think writes is a concern. for boot time and app/game loading, read speed is more significant imo.

QUOTE(ReverseDark @ Mar 31 2014, 05:15 PM) l suppose 120gb is enough for me, sry gonna ask some silly question, why 240gb? it's not a silly question. the larger the space, the more apps/games you can store. this way you do not need to uninstall old games to fit new games so frequently (i.e. help reduce writes/erase cycles). for instance, bf4 with the two dlc's are now 34.7GB. when you delete it to fit new games, your ssd is 34.7GB shorter in lifespan. furthermore, you can allocate some space for over-provisioning purpose (for performance). imo 120gb is just good for OS drive, plus some apps. to store games, it will quickly run out of space.*besides space gb |

QUOTE(ReverseDark @ Mar 31 2014, 06:07 PM) well yeah that's the most common constraint :/however, i still think it's worth while to save a bit more to get 240-256GB range. that range is the sweet spot for now imo. (much better performance compared to 120GB drives) edit: bf4's 3rd dlc is released. downloading now. that makes the whole game about 40GB now This post has been edited by horns: Mar 31 2014, 06:32 PM |

QUOTE(ReverseDark @ Mar 31 2014, 06:34 PM) Superstition: l suppose ssd keep your system healthy also? my rig build in april 2013, suffering from totally random bsod/freezing all the while, my gf pc with a ssd build earlier than mine doesnt really have this kind of issue not really lol! it depends on many factors, including hardware, drivers, OS, and your usage haha!edit: crucial has released new firmware update MU05 for m500. QUOTE(marfccy @ Mar 31 2014, 08:12 PM) not a silly question, its one of the most commonly asked as well yeah leaving unallocated space helps (i.e. over provisioning). again, this depends on usage. 10% should be good enough for normal use (imo leaving too much space unallocated is a waste) cause SSD benefits when you leave a certain % of space available inside the drive. say you have a 120GB, you leave 15-20% space left available in the drive, this helps to keep the SSD retain its top speed or be consistent in performance (not sure am i explaining this right :/) if you hog it down to less then 10%, your SSD performance will drop and youll start to notice things arent as zippy anymore for my case 120GB, i have to leave about 15-20GB free which if you look from this way >120GB full cap >111GB after format >Windows 8.1 is est 20-30GB taken >then add in drivers, other essential items (up to 5GB) >i left.. 80GB+ >throw in a game, (games these days are huge) and youre already reaching the 20GB limit i have to stress the effects of ssd slowing down is not like immediately. it will slow down with time (but usually many months later). you can minimize this effect by leaving it idle for a few hours to do garbage collection during weekends (i.e. just leave it alone. it will do its job to regain performance). by the time you think your drive is slow to an unacceptable level, just wipe it clean, do a secure erase and start over. so, use the drive normally, like hdd, and don't worry so much |

QUOTE(ReverseDark @ Mar 31 2014, 10:12 PM) Even l got habit to uninstall games after l finish it, it still takes up 300gb on my hdd it's pointless because you can only save like 20gb of space. (half the size of one new game?) with hdd, you can do that by using hibernate to speed up the access to windows but that only solve boot time issue of windows, other apps are still slow. (well, unless of course your apps are all games |
