i wanna ask do you recommend ultrabook for engineering course ? if i say i will deal with Autocad, Coding, but no gaming. My friend's Asus N43SL with 8GB Ram somehow will have lags when he runs autocad, why ar?
Ive noticed most ultrabooks only have ssd. does any model come with a secondary hdd?
Do you know any ultrabook/thin and slim model come with optical drive?
Brand I would like to have those good after service and warranty, Asus have alot bad stories as I know.

Apart from the Y410p, can consider this one as well~
Not bad as well since you get a much better and higher-resolutioned screen
15.6"
MSI GE60K, i5-3230M + Nvidia GTX660M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM2899, 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, 2 years warranty

CPU is slightly weaker, but it won't affect your usage. In fact you will get longer battery life and less heat with it brows.gif
Definitely worth considering~

A good CPU, RAM, GPU (if you are doing 3D stuff), and a fast HDD/SSD will help. Your friend's Asus N43SL is slow because of the slow 5400rpm HDD, which can only become slower with time nod.gif

Budget ultrabooks come with conventional HDD, mid-range ones come with hybrid SSD/HDD, whereas premium ones come with full-fledge SSD. They are meant to be light, thus they are equipped with SSD. The question here is, why are normal notebooks not equipped with SSD? brows.gif

Yeah, there are ultrabooks with optical drive, Asus K46 for instant. But most do not have it since most people don't use them anyway, so it can be omitted to again, save weight and reduce the notebook dimensions

Not sure whether you are asking for recommendations or asking questions laugh.gif If you need recommendations, please follow the format icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi T.J thanks for the recommendation of GE60K but I'm still gonna consider Y410P more at the moment after reading this review.

What's wrong with the review? Apart from glossiness? laugh.gif
Seemed pretty decent after reading so many reviews on gaming notebooks haha... Here another version of the review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-MSI-GE...ok.77855.0.html *specs may differ, but the chassis should be similar nod.gif

Regardless, the final choice is in your hands haha, I'm pretty sure at that price, the Y410p is not without flaws as well, just a matter of whether you want to look for reviews to scare yourself or not tongue.gif tongue.gif

I'm interested about Y410P battery performance since it use Haswell proc with Nvidia Optimus enabled, but none of the forums/sites that i went thru says anything about the battery life. doh.gif

Are you buying in a hurry? If not, you might want to check out what Illegear has to offer for their promotion this time, might be able to get a decent one (13 or 15") at RM3.5k nod.gif

For AutoCAD (if 3D then you will need a GPU anyway, regardless of whether you want to use it for gaming or not laugh.gif), its better if you can go for a notebook with a larger/ higher resolutioned screen. So you definitely have to compromise on weight and portability already, especially so if you want performance as well laugh.gif You can't have the best of everything unfortunately sad.gif

Oh I am never into touch screens on normal notebooks. Its all just marketing gimmick to cheat persuade people to buy them laugh.gif
At 1st it may looked really cool, but after awhile of poking your hands will get tired (or even painful if you use alot), and you ended up using the mouse instead laugh.gif
I've played with W8 abit and to be honest I still work faster with my mouse even though its more optimized for touch hmm.gif

And not to mention the screen hinge will eventually becomes loose with time.. so touch option is only viable for hybrids/ convertibles where you can "convert" to tablet mode so that it doesn't strain too much (if any) on the hinge~

Still, I've always loved the Z400/Z500 because of its slim profile, even with the very decent hardware offered. Iirc it is not easy to reach the internals of the notebook for upgrades, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem for most consumers who just want to use a notebook laugh.gif
