I guess there is something wrong with the individual or the way they market themselves especially for the fresh grads. I saw A LOT of openings either from BIG service companies, local companies as well as the operating companies. In the newspapers or in the internet. Maybe it is not your rezeki yet BUT I guess it is good to listen to the senior's advise in this forum..look back at your CV and yourself, are you being too choosy? Or maybe you're proactive enough. I know from my x-colleague that the fresh grads from his university used to walk in to the companies and hand over their CV..but I believe not all companies we can just walk in. Good luck guys... |

I wonder if you guys from a top-ranked university and from top & hottest course in the university don't you have a good alumni member in the industry? Perhaps some of them now a Sr. Eng or Managers that you can contact and ask for advise. Or you are a kind of person that not really have a good relationship with the seniors or peers. Not bother about the 'networking' factor.... I'm myself not really good in our course 'persatuan' and worse is not really know our juniors. Fortunately, we get along with our senior batch as some of the seniors taking same subject with us (extend 1-2 semesters are common during my time/ in my uni). Besides 'rezeki', one of the factor that I can't ignore is that I knew my senior working there and the recruitment manager that time also knew him very well. So just my 1 cent, start building up your networking not only when in the industry but from 1st day in Uni; with your peers, seniors and also juniors as well as lecturers...Who knows they will acknowledge and willing to help you later. Goodluck... |

QUOTE(heliosi @ Nov 11 2013, 02:00 AM) Hi, DE in drilling contractor sometimes known as operations engineer or rig engineer. Some of the position is really exist and some just created as part of the contract (request by client)What is the difference in the job scope for a drilling engineer working for a contractor versus one working for an operator? Would it be that the operator DE completes the drilling design, while the contractor DE implements the design? So I'm guessing the contractor DE job is more hands-on, i.e. he has to smooth the paper design down for practical implementation as he is more well-versed with the drilling rig? Also, is a contractor DE seen as less desirable by operators, and vice versa? Some of the job scopes that I know are; 1. Assisting rig manager with the daily operations 2. Assisting Rig asset manager with the rig move, rig modification, upgrades, or shipyard project. Also develop work scope for the class survey i.e UWILD 3. Sometime become next focal point to the client (DE will request info about the rig equipments, or any info related to the rig for the next well location or other project) 4. Perform the operational audits. 5. Gathering the information from the rig crews (OIM or Barge Supervisor) for the rig modification or upgrade 6. PArticipate in operational meeting i.e DWOP, AAR, etc 7. Assisting Rig manager and rig asset manager preparing the budget. 8. Sometime coordinate third party personnel to come onboard to perform inspections. |

QUOTE(kamilnu @ Nov 13 2013, 10:31 PM) Bumi Armada had never built their FPSO/FSOs there. And they never will. They will always build in Singapore. Given the opportunity, nobody will order anything from MMHE but due to Petronas insist...they award MMHE. Malaysian oil field....petronas owner....so any shipowner must contracted to MMHE. Bumi Armada involve in overseas oilfield...not owned by petronas. So they build FPSO wherever they want. I heard they are doing fpso cendor...maybe the project almost finished?..Knowing they took over sime darby engineering, I thought they are doing better but WOW, it otherwise. |

Malaysia's Petronas Awards $3.1B in Offshore Jobs to Local Firms
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Reuters) – Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), Malaysia's state oil firm, has awarded a 13-package, five-year offshore hook-up, commissioning and maintenance services contract worth 10 billion ringgit ($3.12 billion) to six local companies. The deals, awarded under the Pan Malaysia Integrated Hook-Up & Commissioning and Topside Major Maintenance Contract, mark one of Petronas' largest service contracts currently in place as it seeks to drive and support growth among local companies. The companies are Kencana HL Sdn Bhd, Dayang Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Petra Resources Sdn Bhd, PBJV Sdn Bhd, Carimin Engineering Services Sdn Bhd and Sigur Ros Sdn Bhd. The deals are for a period of five years starting from 2013, according to Petronas. "The award of this major contract is Petronas' acknowledgment of the capability of local service providers," said Ramlan A. Malek, Petronas' vice president of Petroleum Management. QUOTE(heliosi @ Nov 17 2013, 05:53 AM) Hi guys, regarding getting my foot in the door: between a mudlogger and field specialist/technician, which of these two would provide for a more successful transition to a drilling engineer position, given that I have a petroleum engineering degree? Have you heard of this happening and is it highly dependent on work performance? I have met DE from MWD/DD background and also from Mud Engineer...I think both positions are possible...people in operating companies should be have more info on this... |

QUOTE(heliosi @ Nov 17 2013, 07:17 AM) thanks for the reply meonkutu! you meant MWD/DD for specialist right? And apparently mud engineer is a completely different job compared to mudlogger, I just found this out recently too. I think so bro...some company call it field specialist and some call field engineer... |

Operations meetings (daily), DWOPs, Pre-Spuds, AARs, Safety, SQs, Sales & Marketing Workshop, Lunch & Learn BS, Revenue Forecasts. After work, still have to entertain clients. You name it, they have it. |
