Hi All

Would like to share some of the shops worth mentioning after shopping for the past two months

RECOMMENDED

1. Wong Lighting (Tmn Paramount/Pudu) - good variety and flexible staff, easy to deal with if want to exchange product.

2. Rainbow Lighting Jln Puteri 4/6, Bandar Puteri (only sell Philips product)- friendly and complying staff

3. Seng Hup - lots of variety to make your day and nice designer lights. Price is ok only if got big discount.

5. Tong Ging Lighting (Pudu) - got specific products on promotion occasionally which can make a good buy .

6. Top Ten Puchong & House of Lighting Puchong (like pasar malam every time i went there) - fans very good price but if you get a spoilt one by luck, have to contact the manufacturer directly . Fino fans go ESH, cheaper. Lights prices more or less the same with other places for the same model. No after sales service.

7. Koo Lighting (Jalan Puteri 4/6) - I found they do not mark up price crazy like other shops , hence after small discount their price is still cheapest.

8. Sover Lighting (Viva Homes) - a place to source for big/small designer mounted ceiling lights at affordable price.

NOT recommended

1. Philips Experience Store at Menara Axis - Bad stocking management. Manned by an incompetent staff, plus always not around / not picking up calls.

2. Tsen Lighting - staff with attitude problem and poor product knowledge, can get better deal somewhere else.

Top 10 price not cheap la. Cheap because mostly China lousy brand. Good brand still expensive. Staff won't be serving you especially weekend. If want to go try weekday. During my purchase mid 2011 legend give me same cash price as top 10 and allowed me use c.card and free delivery. Delivery very important especially buying 5 or more fans.

I also went to Legend to get another same fan as Top Ten not enough stock. Best price from Legend is RM15 more expensive even though pay cash. Some more the fan has no guarantee card (top part of box cover missing) but Legend staff say they will get the manufacturer to repair for us if it is spoilt. Wherelse Top Ten gave us the guarantee card but tell not to contact them if fan not working, to contact manufacturer directly. But Legend electrical stuff are generally cheaper and the staff is attentive, i enquire about one model of LG washing machine is RM1050 and it is selling RM1300++ at Jusco.

My experience with legend was different. When I was sourcing for fan, legend saleman recommend me go top 10, he say is cheaper, so I go. Going top 10 I can sum up my experience as "beggar beg for money". Price are the same as legend. Ask for delivery need to add 60. Ask of I can use CC need to pay extra. Imaging I drive back 7 fans home. Crazy.

Go back legend pay them CC and free delivery. Less stress. All come with warranty card. Legend even help me report to Panasonic when my yuragi wobbeling like crazy. Anyway that was my 2011 experience. And I never go top 10 anymore. If I want light will go Wong lightning.

Last time they got another shop called Eluminuz or something like that near SS2. Opposite Mungo Jerry. I bought some nicer stuff from there as well. But now closed already. Is this the same one at Sea Park?

Never been to the one in paramount yet. smile.gif

Sorry, have not bought from Elmo led's product before, so cannot comment. But if you are interested in similar products offered by Elmo led, i saw Valens at Viva Homes having 20% promotion for all their products now.

Got branches at SS2/75 and Lot 14328 & 14329, Batu 4 - 1/4, Jalan Klang Lama. The one at Old Klang Road got better reputation according to some Low Yat forumers. Buy TV is risky as at one time they are suspected of recycling display sets as new tv.

Hi, would like to share my experience of buying downlights, having change the lights for 4 to 5 times before all settle! Hence very important to go to a shop that allows you to exchange. Below is my trial/ error and findings .

We decided not to use LED downlight as recent research shows that that LED can lead to blindness, damage to retina. Hence go for CFL. To determine what to choose depends on your

Ceiling height ?: If height is about 9ft, 6 inches type with 18w x2 bulb, frosted glass can cover about 6ft area. If not bright, you can change the glass easily to half frosted type/no glass type. If want brighter go for day light color. Warm white is the dimmest color.

Ballast or non ballast type? Lamp with ballast can tahan lama, but also noisy and hard to change if it is spoilt as you need to take out the whole unit of casing from your plaster ceiling. If you put in room, go for ballast free type (ballast can be noisy in small area) . If put in open/big area, noise is not noticeable.

Space in the plaster ceiling? If only 2-3 inches height, LED is the only choice. This is especially so for bathroom which may have limited space due to piping running on top of plaster ceiling. Can only get made in china product as Taiwan have not come out with slim type.

Not all Ballast noisy, mine are all ok. No permernant humm / buzz sound. Since I move in end 2011, I only had one time buzz problem but after switch off and on sound gone.

Buzz sound usually indicating the ballast is failing, that is like after 10 years of usage. My mom house all the downlight I install still running strong and is almost 10 years only change one bulb. Well worth it. low quality ballast may have this issue, when buy ask them for local made ballast not china "mari"..

How ofthen we see fluorescent light spoild? Especially the branded fluorescent.

It is energy savings lightbulb (stick or spiral type). The max watt/ type will be fixed, depending on the type of downlight casing that you choose.

I strongly recommend not to buy from them, i had very very bad experience as the people there are real conman.
Before you pay at the fair, everything is all good and staff very nice.
After you Pay, disaster!!!!!! Call many times don't come for installation, when they do they are late.
The Boss there is a like gangster, customer paid money and they refuse to honour what was agreed on the invoice.
Finally, i have to request back for my money as it was not fair to pay and get abused. sad.gif

Very bad experience

Hi All

Would like to share some of the shops worth mentioning after shopping for the past two months

RECOMMENDED

1. Wong Lighting (Tmn Paramount/Pudu) - good variety and flexible staff, easy to deal with.

7. Koo Lighting (Jalan Puteri 4/6) - I found they do not mark up price crazy like other shops , hence after small discount their price is still cheapest.

8. Sover Lighting (Viva Homes) - a place to source for big/small designer mounted ceiling lights at affordable price.

I go there quite often, can get a lot of inspiration for home furnishing.

Sover lighting - mainly sell ceiling light , price and design is ok
Achiever premium- variety of designer lights. price is on medium to high end, so have to negotiate hard since now no sales.
LC Lighting - high end lights and fans- price very expensive, staff don't bother to layan, so you can 6c6c as you like.

Thanks bro. I'm planning to go there by this weekend.
Wanted to get everything done before cny.
Will go for Achiever premium, to get some design light.
I heard that Puchong got a lot of lighting shop, any idea on it?

Yeah, Puchong have a lot of shops near IOI mall. You can just walk around and will discover the shops. But after I went four five shops I think Koo Lighting (Bandar Puteri Jalan Puteri 4/6) is recommended. The price is reasonable , they don't jack up the price like other shops but their shop renovation not so grand like Achiever. I won't recommend Phillip because now no sale, so discount they can give maybe 10% only. Sale time can get 30%-50%.

Price wise Achiver marked up kow kow especially on the more expensive range. I saw one pendant light selling RM5k at achiever, i bought from exhibition fair for RM2,500. I did buy one pair of LED wall light (RM320 each) from achiever as i need it urgently, after bargain, it is slightly about the same price from Top Ten (RM300). I guess the key is to bargain hard for high range item and for cheaper range to negotiate 15-20% discount from them.

For Top ten/house of light their fans are very cheap but lighting products like downlight and T5 pricing is comparable with other shops.

Price and quality depend what you choose / want. There is no standard price & quality. Go to their shop and find out. My pricing is almost 2+ years now. No longer valid.

Most item now made in China, even Philips high end LED also made there. It will be great if you can share some shops that provide good service and reasonable price products.

I'll always go to Avalon lighting shop for normal clients but the high profile ones I will take them to Lightcraft or Alfo lighting because a lot of imports from Italy , Germany etc. like I mention earlier it is good to know the person in charge of the shop. I can always ask them to reduce their comisyen per pendant or special lighting on their side.
Normal down light the sales team have no comisyen but if you are interested to buy a pendant light , chandelier , you can always ask them to minus their comisyen a bit

I guess being in the reno/ID profession do have its advantages as the shop supervisor is keen to keep a good relationship with you and give a better discount. As for Avalon i have been to their warehouse sales, completely dissapointed (very limited outdated stocks and not cheap also )and after that i don't bother to visit their showroom.

Dropped by at viva home yesterday. Went to a few light shops including achiever premium and another one beside it. Interestingly, the designs there were waaay fresher and more modern than the designs available at other shops ive been to. Yes the price might be higher but there are also pendant lights between 200-500 which i feel looked fantastic

Yes I bought. Made in China although price is so expensive. Quality is ok but for that kind of price and design, I could get better value in other brands.

Hi All

Would like to share some of the shops worth mentioning after shopping for the past two months

RECOMMENDED

1. Wong Lighting (Tmn Paramount/Pudu) - good variety and flexible staff, easy to deal with if want to exchange product.

2.Ā  Rainbow Lighting Jln Puteri 4/6, Bandar Puteri (only sell Philips product)- friendly and complying staff

Fino fans go ESH, cheaper.Ā  Lights prices more or less the same with other places for the same model. No after sales service.

7. Koo Lighting (Jalan Puteri 4/6) - I found they do not mark up price crazy like other shops , hence after small discount their price is still cheapest.Ā Ā

8. Sover Lighting (Viva Homes) - a place to source for big/small designer mounted ceiling lights at affordable price.

NOT recommended

1. Philips Experience Store at Menara Axis - Bad stocking management.Ā  Manned by an incompetent staff, plus always not around / not picking up calls.

2. Tsen Lighting - staff with attitude problem and poor product knowledge, can get better deal somewhere else.
*
My preferences lighting shop - focus light gallery, Seksyen 7. Prices quite reasonable.

Yes! i strongly agreed with u. I went to Tsen last week. Their services seriously bad! Salesman is not entertain and provide gd advise. I went to Seksyen 7 for some carpet buying and passby a lighting shop called focus light gallery.

Surprising the lighting they sells much more cheaper than puchong one and the owner really willing to spent 2 hours plus in advising me n my husband on the lighting decor. He quite experiences and did a free quotation to us,picked the suitable lightings based on our limited budget!

Thumb up for their services! They have fb as well.

Not only u need to knw the watt but also the lumen . Besides that u also need to measure your ceiling height . Theres one thread discuss about lighting , you will find more info there.

No offense but by looking at your price , i think 7w one not be enough .led will be dimmer as time passes by especially the cheaper range and also brightness is pretty subjective too .

Thanks for sharing. Mine ceiling height is 9.5 feet, will try to find the lighting thread.

I look around the lighting shop around PJ area today, most of them selling between RM20-30 for a 4-6" 7-12w LED DL, the Philips 4" 7W LED DL cost about RM50-60 per piece (2x to 3x of the price)... worth paying for the Philips DL? Or I should get those old fashion DL casing + LED bulb, thus, I can change the bulb at any time... smile.gif

Most of them selling led between 20-30 bcos not many willing to pay for higher range . the philips that u mentioned i think is the lowest range for the brand but so so much better if compare with 20 type .
Not neccessarily must go with branded . China also got better quality one .

Of course normal e27 bulb downlight is more practical . Bulb can be changed easily and u can choose normal or upgrade to LED bulb later . Make sure you dont buy the one with cover cos insects will trap there . You can also mix LED and e27 downlights at different separate areas

Thanks for the advise. Will consider DL casing + e27 bulb set up.

Btw, the CIMA Lightings shop selling the 7w & 12w LED DL brand is LEDEON, any one bought the LEDEON LED DL?

9.5feet is considered double volume.
Hence, depending on the lux level want to achieve.

7w might not be enough. It also will affect the lux based on ur fitting spacing.
If you have the previous CFLi, there should state the lumen output. From there, you can get the similar lumen replacement. Don't look at wattage anymore. It's no longer relevant.

Unfortunately, those unknown brand LED DL only indicate the wattage and no info for the lumen output. I have decided to opt for 6" 12w 4000k LED DL with two years warranty from Puchong, hope the DL works fine.

Thanks for the advise. Will consider DL casing + e27 bulb set up.

Btw, the CIMA Lightings shop selling the 7w & 12w LED DL brand is LEDEON, any one bought the LEDEON LED DL?

Went shopping around Puchong over the weekend to scout for LED downlight and normal DL casing + e27 types.

Most of the shops were selling the China/Taiwan-made LED downlight
(12W) at RM22-RM26 while the local branded ones are ~RM60.

Warranties for LED downlight range between 6 months-2 years.

Opted for LED downlight coz prices for the normal DL casing plus LED bulb still cost ~RM20 at the shops we asked. I want to maximise my ceiling height as it will be very low if install plaster ceiling and the normal DL casing (7inch).

In the end, bought one of the China LED brand from Ten-Gro to let my contractor see first, although only 6months warranty. May consider the Taiwan LED brand (Super Eco) because that one has 2 years warranty - but not sure if quality or not.

May consider going to Wong lighting in Tmn Paramount based on the comments here.

So far, anyone use China/Taiwan LED types without any problem?

i just send tsen lighting , the india can't really talk well..the only chinese dont even bother to talk with me.

their price is higher range as what i see , they sell mainly philip lighting.

i saw few downlight ,round one cost around rm 4x.. if i buy yhe gu10mv led (Rm90) it will cost me total at rm130 .

now my wiring men ask me to fix at least 12 light point and charge me at rm70 per point..the overall ROI for light become RM130+70= RM200 ..for 12 piece will end up like 2400RM...am i crazy hahahah

due to all those wiring ,now i have no choice to put in plaster ceiling for my ground floor..

Did i have other choice then to put downlight if i use plaster celing ?

Dining and living area you can put one pendant light each. But need to do extra support beam for plaster ceiling. This can be complemented by downlight and floor lamp.

I don't like Tsen Lighting. Not helpful and unfriendly.
Expensive is one thing. I prefer buying lights from Wong Lighting, and Lightcraft.

One of the seller told me nsb pure import from china and i see the driver voltage like those from chine one.

and he recommend me yetplus which also make from china but customize for malaysia voltage and the driver also look solid + bigger heatsink .. same price.

my friend recommend GE or better brand , i saw the philip dimlight selling at rm6x..and the nsb and this yetplus also selling at rm49.. should i lift my budget and get a better brand ?

I had a pleasant experience with Avalon last month during one of the home exhibition. The person there told me they not only sell lights, but actually give advices on how to create a desired lighting ambience that one would like. In the end, we discussed about the floor plan that I have in my phone, and accordingly drafted the types of lightings and the quantity needed (based on space, purpose of a particular room, heights of ceiling etc). The prices of the lights were also reasonable, and I was really glad to be able to receive a value-added service by them.

Haven't even mentioned, that I had one of their staff that came to my renovation site to visit the actual place to provide me further advices. At no cost at all.

Would definitely go back to Avalon as returning customer, and recommend them to anyone here.

yupe...i settle with yatplus (hopefully i make a good choice) because yatplus is 20 yr old in malaysia already and + 2 yr warranty.

today discuss with my another friend who use power-saving bulb instead of LED because he survey and all people including technician + lighting house owner told him ..LED will cause eye problem.

my plaster ceiling only reserve max 4 inch for me , if i put his downlight...i might have problem...damn .

any idea ???

There used to be a lighting shop before the old Rothman roundabout in PJ, quite big shop and can see from the road side. Anyone knows where this shop has moved to? I can't recall name of shop now though. Just wondering if anyone recall ever seeing this shop there before it shifted.

Guys, any opinion on IKEA LED bulbs? They seem quite pricey, not sure whether the quality is good or not.

Any recommendation on where to buy reasonably priced, good LED bulbs ( for home reno, so quite alot, 40-50)? ( preferably not China ones).

You can also mix LED and e27 downlights at different separate areas

argg.. i bought mine with cover... cry.gif and I forgot to ask what bulb they provide...

Mix of low to mid end range, not much discount offered. They also carry Phillips brand . The shop has many floors, however I didn't manage to buy anything as the lighting choice is limited.

Osram no idea.
Philips suppliers : CIMA lighting, Tsen Lighting, Tong Ging, Phillips Bandar Puteri, Phillips Menara Axis, Philips Puchong Avenue. Anyone who knows more shops can add on to the list. Two things to note, different branch may have different discount. The fittings shown in the website many have no stock, have to wait some time if you order.

Thanks for ur feedback regarding the supplier and retailers. I did visit cima but seem like they carry the Philips fitting which I'm not sure where they get it. No single fitting from the website they have. Really no point for Philips to show those fitting if they not intended to sell to end user. Same goes to osram.

Guy, I've found those Philips and osram fitting at wong lighting paramount. Not many choice but still have what I want. Got a question, seem like these led fitting from osram or Philips ah is LED. And no replacement can be done once the bulb finish. Currently any fitting from both the manufacturer which can replace the LED module but still using the fitting??

Hi Guys,

I've found a light shop which is cheapest after visiting quite many light shop including top ten and houses lighting.

its S&S LED at Old Klang Road, Opposite Pearl Point Hotel.

The staff there is nice and has a beautiful cashier smile.gif thumbup.gif

am very happy with their service. Bought lights, fans & Switches for my new house.

their LED downlights ranging around RM 8 - RM 35+

and their ceiling deco lights are quite cheap compared to so many lights shop that i've went to do checking.

Really amaze with house of lighting.
1st time went there, so many ppl. Straight got staff serve me with smile. Everything i ask, price definitely cheap. Very systematic, like in the bank.

1st time see this kind of business so busy and systematic.

Guys, there is another shop in ss2/24 called GC Lighting. It has been opened for over 30years already. My family bought all the lights for old and new house from them. Their lights are quality. Recently I went to buy some bulbs the boss told me that they are having stock clearance sales as they are moving to somewhere else. All the lights are selling with very low price. So if you guys wanna buy some lights can try to visit this shop. The sales is until next February.

Get a warm white light, that will do good to your eyes.
Mall usually use high performance light, that has long lifespan, and the price is higher too.

The setup is non glaring, probably because the bulb very deep in and your eye is not directly exposed to light source, like staring at the blazing sun. it is very comfy to eyes. i am not sure if the down light bracket is a special type or not. or all down light brackets can achieve the same. hmm.gif

another not recommend is 1 L!v!ing.

I order a LED light set & specifically told them i do not want a display unit. When I received, it was a display unit with stain on it & some accessories is gone, even there is no plastic cover.
I bring back to shop, then they start to give some lame excuse about sending wrong order.
While the display unit in the shop is gone.

You should be able to get it from any regular hardware shop. I think Mr. DIY still selling it.
Have you searched at these places?

The driver costs me RM15, comes with 6 moths warranty. I think you may able find cheaper driver. So far those replaced drivers work fine.

I bought from them before. But managed to find some other places selling cheaper and since it is a physical store, easier warranty claims.

Anyone use feel-lite led before? Saw this on their FB page. The led can be remove from the frame so it will not risk damaging your plaster ceiling.

i have go to survey the price in LC lighting in klang and puchong also , they sell the lumileds product with 3years warranty with Philips and Osram chipset , but the price is very expensive . After that i go to Philips Lighting Store in PJ , they tell me if u by the Philips chipset LED downlight by lumileds better u buy the original Philips product from malaysia retailer , because LC lighting lumileds sell RM 42++ , and original product Philips only RM 28++ . After that i ask about the warranty period , because LC lighting giving 3years warranty , the Philips guy told me normally if u want long warranty period they just mark up the price , for example if Philips original product if u want 3years warranty u just add RM8.00 so the total price only RM35.00 , and they also tell me now Osram product is discontinue in asia market , now change to LEDVANCE already , but the way , i decide to buy the Original Philips product smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

I find OPPLE LED Cool Daylight colour to be soothing to the eye with two years warranty. Driver is inbuilt into fixture.

if u really looking at quality items and not made-in-china led's cheap and cheap and cheap but instead u want something great and willing to pay the price, i suggest u all head over to international link lighting in ss2. next to klinik kanak kanak khoo.

almost all the hotel lightings are supplied and done by them. bear in mind, these are not the cheapo stuff china mari buy today tomoro burn type of lights so don't expect those kind of price either.

at first i did my garden lights from them . after 5 years under sun and rain still running nicely. my herb garden lighting also i got from them recently. some of my lights especially kitchen area also i've been using their recommended lights and its been 3 years and still running.

my smd5050 staircase lights i buy from lazada, taobao, shopee, jd and all, prob last about 7 months and that's it.

Thx. I don't use downlight, but all bulbs (E27/14) are leds. As you rightly said, most of them last about a year, hence looking for quality ones.

I don't mine those China lamp/light/LED. It just ridiculous cheap and if it had 6 months life, im happy (real life can hit 1 year). The bulb LED at MR Diy also last long and about 1/3 than Philips brand price
