Hi All

Would like to share some of the shops worth mentioning after shopping for the past two months

RECOMMENDED

1. Wong Lighting (Tmn Paramount/Pudu) - good variety and flexible staff, easy to deal with if want to exchange product.

2. Rainbow Lighting Jln Puteri 4/6, Bandar Puteri (only sell Philips product)- friendly and complying staff

3. Seng Hup - lots of variety to make your day and nice designer lights. Price is ok only if got big discount.

5. Tong Ging Lighting (Pudu) - got specific products on promotion occasionally which can make a good buy .

6. Top Ten Puchong & House of Lighting Puchong (like pasar malam every time i went there) - fans very good price but if you get a spoilt one by luck, have to contact the manufacturer directly . Fino fans go ESH, cheaper. Lights prices more or less the same with other places for the same model. No after sales service.

7. Koo Lighting (Jalan Puteri 4/6) - I found they do not mark up price crazy like other shops , hence after small discount their price is still cheapest.

8. Sover Lighting (Viva Homes) - a place to source for big/small designer mounted ceiling lights at affordable price.

NOT recommended

1. Philips Experience Store at Menara Axis - Bad stocking management. Manned by an incompetent staff, plus always not around / not picking up calls.

2. Tsen Lighting - staff with attitude problem and poor product knowledge, can get better deal somewhere else.

Top 10 price not cheap la. Cheap because mostly China lousy brand. Good brand still expensive. Staff won't be serving you especially weekend. If want to go try weekday. During my purchase mid 2011 legend give me same cash price as top 10 and allowed me use c.card and free delivery. Delivery very important especially buying 5 or more fans.
*
I also went to Legend to get another same fan as Top Ten not enough stock. Best price from Legend is RM15 more expensive even though pay cash. Some more the fan has no guarantee card (top part of box cover missing) but Legend staff say they will get the manufacturer to repair for us if it is spoilt. Wherelse Top Ten gave us the guarantee card but tell not to contact them if fan not working, to contact manufacturer directly. But Legend electrical stuff are generally cheaper and the staff is attentive, i enquire about one model of LG washing machine is RM1050 and it is selling RM1300++ at Jusco.

I bought most of my lighting from Wong Lighting at Jalan Pasar. The lady boss there very nice and friendly....  tongue.gif

Recently I went to Lightcraft, the guy served me took down everything on a notepad (just like few items) and says he will email me a quotation the same day. Never got it
Text him and ask, he dont reply. Sigh....I guess it all depends who you kena that day .... shakehead.gif
*
Once i was at Tsen Lighting, their Bangla staff want to sell to another foreigner discount 30%, then the lady supervisor whack the Bangla infront of customer, say max only 20%, please lah if want to whack go behind, don't do it in front of customers. The lady supervisor always sit at counter, want to pay also her muka masam. The Chinese guy worst, very lazy, you ask only he answer, like not keen to do business.

Last time they got another shop called Eluminuz or something like that near SS2. Opposite Mungo Jerry. I bought some nicer stuff from there as well. But now closed already. Is this the same one at Sea Park?

Never been to the one in paramount yet. smile.gif
*
SS2 closed. Wong is at Paramount (also known as Sea Park) and Pudu.

Sorry, have not bought from Elmo led's product before, so cannot comment. But if you are interested in similar products offered by Elmo led, i saw Valens at Viva Homes having 20% promotion for all their products now.

May i know where is this Legend shop ???
*
Got branches at SS2/75 and Lot 14328 & 14329, Batu 4 - 1/4, Jalan Klang Lama. The one at Old Klang Road got better reputation according to some Low Yat forumers. Buy TV is risky as at one time they are suspected of recycling display sets as new tv.

QUOTE(~Battousai~ @ Jul 1 2013, 02:06 PM)
guys what are the downlights recommended to buy together with its watt size ?

need around 40+ for living, dining, kitchen, masterbedroom and car porch
*
Hi, would like to share my experience of buying downlights, having change the lights for 4 to 5 times before all settle! Hence very important to go to a shop that allows you to exchange. Below is my trial/ error and findings .

We decided not to use LED downlight as recent research shows that that LED can lead to blindness, damage to retina. Hence go for CFL. To determine what to choose depends on your

Ceiling height ?: If height is about 9ft, 6 inches type with 18w x2 bulb, frosted glass can cover about 6ft area. If not bright, you can change the glass easily to half frosted type/no glass type. If want brighter go for day light color. Warm white is the dimmest color.

Ballast or non ballast type? Lamp with ballast can tahan lama, but also noisy and hard to change if it is spoilt as you need to take out the whole unit of casing from your plaster ceiling. If you put in room, go for ballast free type (ballast can be noisy in small area) . If put in open/big area, noise is not noticeable.

Space in the plaster ceiling? If only 2-3 inches height, LED is the only choice. This is especially so for bathroom which may have limited space due to piping running on top of plaster ceiling. Can only get made in china product as Taiwan have not come out with slim type.

Hi thanks for sharing. Cfl is only for tube right? I have done the wiring and plaster ceiling too just not yet open the hole for those round downlights

Thanks for sharing. 1st time light buyer here haha
*
It is energy savings lightbulb (stick or spiral type). The max watt/ type will be fixed, depending on the type of downlight casing that you choose.

Hey bros,
Any comment on the furnitures & lighting shop at viva home?
It seem like I can get all the things at viva home.
*
I go there quite often, can get a lot of inspiration for home furnishing.

Sover lighting - mainly sell ceiling light , price and design is ok
Achiever premium- variety of designer lights. price is on medium to high end, so have to negotiate hard since now no sales.
LC Lighting - high end lights and fans- price very expensive, staff don't bother to layan, so you can 6c6c as you like.

Thanks bro. I'm planning to go there by this weekend.
Wanted to get everything done before cny.
Will go for Achiever premium, to get some design light.
I heard that Puchong got a lot of lighting shop, any idea on it?
*
Yeah, Puchong have a lot of shops near IOI mall. You can just walk around and will discover the shops. But after I went four five shops I think Koo Lighting (Bandar Puteri Jalan Puteri 4/6) is recommended. The price is reasonable , they don't jack up the price like other shops but their shop renovation not so grand like Achiever. I won't recommend Phillip because now no sale, so discount they can give maybe 10% only. Sale time can get 30%-50%.

Is achiever considered cheap?labelled them as expensive due to one led light but i could be wrong.

Been to topten and house of lights and STILL im undecided what downlight to get, what t5 to get for my plaster ceiling sad.gif
*
Price wise Achiver marked up kow kow especially on the more expensive range. I saw one pendant light selling RM5k at achiever, i bought from exhibition fair for RM2,500. I did buy one pair of LED wall light (RM320 each) from achiever as i need it urgently, after bargain, it is slightly about the same price from Top Ten (RM300). I guess the key is to bargain hard for high range item and for cheaper range to negotiate 15-20% discount from them.

For Top ten/house of light their fans are very cheap but lighting products like downlight and T5 pricing is comparable with other shops.

It Is hard to say which is better Lighting Shop. I have been doing architectural And interior works for Sometime now And finding cheap but good quality ones soooo susah one. But the best option for you guys Is to get to know the sales person Or manager. If anything happend Easy to change  those defect item. Sometimes even big Lighting Shops sell China Or Taiwan made product.
*
Most item now made in China, even Philips high end LED also made there. It will be great if you can share some shops that provide good service and reasonable price products.

I'll always go to Avalon lighting shop for normal clients but the high profile ones I will take them to Lightcraft or Alfo lighting because a lot of imports from Italy , Germany etc. like I mention earlier it is good to know the person in charge of the shop. I can always ask them to reduce their comisyen per pendant or special lighting on their side.
Normal down light the sales team have no comisyen but if you are interested to buy a pendant light , chandelier , you can always ask them to minus their comisyen a bit
*
I guess being in the reno/ID profession do have its advantages as the shop supervisor is keen to keep a good relationship with you and give a better discount. As for Avalon i have been to their warehouse sales, completely dissapointed (very limited outdated stocks and not cheap also )and after that i don't bother to visit their showroom.

has anybody bought Philips brand lighting fixtures? I wonder if they are made in China for Philips and if the quality is any good?

Yes I bought. Made in China although price is so expensive. Quality is ok but for that kind of price and design, I could get better value in other brands.

i just send tsen lighting , the india can't really talk well..the only chinese dont even bother to talk with me.

their price is higher range as what i see , they sell mainly philip lighting.

i saw few downlight ,round one cost around rm 4x.. if i buy yhe gu10mv led (Rm90) it will cost me total at rm130 .

now my wiring men ask me to fix at least 12 light point and charge me at rm70 per point..the overall ROI for light become RM130+70= RM200 ..for 12 piece will end up like 2400RM...am i crazy hahahah

due to all those wiring ,now i have no choice to put in plaster ceiling for my ground floor..

Did i have other choice then to put downlight if i use plaster celing ?
*
Dining and living area you can put one pendant light each. But need to do extra support beam for plaster ceiling. This can be complemented by downlight and floor lamp.
