Hi all,

Wondering if anybody has use this item: Linksys SPA3000 in Malaysia?

user posted image

It has one FXS and FXO port.

The FXS port allows you to use a VoIP provider and FXO allows you to connect to local PSTN (eg. Telekom) land line
so that you can dial in and dial out (if you're overseas or have another VoIP box on the other side).

The thing I wasn't sure is if the FXO port (PSTN default is BellCore) standard is compatible with our Telekom land line.
The best price that I can get from Ebay is around RM200 (including shipping) to Malaysia plus I have to get my own power adapter (for 240v).

If anybody knows of better price or location to get this, please post or PM me.

Much appreciated!

That voip adapter looks outdated with the FXO port.

Most VoIP SIP adapters have just a network port to plug in from your modem/router and 1/2 RJ-11 FXS ports for your old phones

FXO is use to bridge the call between traditional line and VOIP.. Got many functions.. Call FXO then redirect to VOIP and vice-versa. Auto select VOIP or FXO based on pattern.

I got this in the store room.. Got it for RM350 last few years..

Where's the RJ-11 network jack to connect to the internet directly?

The newer SIP adapters nowadays do not have FXO ports anymore because they connect directly to routers/ADSL modems.
The old POTs is already separated at the splitter/low pass filter.

Anyone has use this as solution to expansive mobile phone bill in Malaysia?

Use your Unifi/DSL line as a dedicated data line.
Unplug all your old phones connected to POTs and try finding a SIP voip service to compensate?

There is 2xRJ-11 (telephone Jack). 1 FXS connected to phone set, 1 FXO connected to phone line. There is another RJ-45 connected to router. It's will not be VOIP adapter if can't connect to internet directly. The different between normal VOIP ATA is additional FXO port.

Anything but not my hard earned money being contributed to TM for call charges.

We want our ATAs to route voice calls through world class companies such as Google Voice, Skype Out, Vonage, Fring, MediaRing Talk, PennyTel, Nextivia, Buzport and many more...

VoIP over BB is flourishing in Singapore's market. There are many international companies there who are taking up 3rd party voip services for their staffs to make unlimited voice calls back to their home countries.

Telcos over there are no longer pushing for POTs while leaving the competition to others to fight it out. All they handle is the physical data connection while letting others offer the voice, isp and video services. They get to choose what they want.

It's so unlike Malaysia where they would want to monopolize every single service the telco provides.

My typo there. It should be where's the RJ-45 port instead sweat.gif
With most ATA voip adapters, you would only connect the RJ-45 port to the router/modem with switch directly and the RJ-11 port for the old phones.

Anything but not companies such as TM and Maxsucks billing me for voice calls.

I still prefer the smaller or 3rd party VOIP companies which tend to be more fair and competitive.
