QUOTE(aimanace94 @ Jan 24 2014, 11:18 PM)
just received my g55vw after sending for warranty in lowyat . my review :

1. it took them 5 working days to get my requests done . pretty ok
2. they cant reset my windows 8.1 as i requested , so back to windows 7
3. if u like trend micro they install them again , free trial for 1 year ! but they also install some stupid bloatwares
4. the backlit on the keyboard now NEVER works .
5. they claim they replace (not fix) the hdd and cd tray but my transfer speed (WD my passport usb 3 to internal hdd) still hovers around 30MB/s
6. i told them to repaste (the said they replaced the vent or heatsink or something) but the cpu temperature literally doesnt seem to drop (reached 83C before gaming ! is that even possible !?)
7. sometimes (periodically and constantly) even when im not gaming the fan suddenly starts to make noise , cpu temp increase but the clock speed doesnt get affected as i use Balanced power mode . this NEVER happened before sending to warranty .
8. i encountered several (ok, alot) heavy lags but maybe its because im installing apps and stuffs again but the lags are totally ridiculous

bottom end : dont send for warranty . my next laptop will be lenovo
*
5. Run those disk benchmark with ur usb 3.0 devices attached.
6. We're not sure if they actually did repasting.
7. Most likely this is related to 6
8. Lags as in? May i know if the hdd is 5400rpm or 7200 rpm? Bad sector/refurbish hard disk replaced in 5?

lag as in it took a solid 5-10 second (normally 0-2 sec) to launch an app that requires a user account control verification . and what does "Bad sector/refurbish hard disk replaced in 5" means ? 1tb i checked and definitely 5400rpm as per stated in asus website . they said they replaced the heatsink set which means it was pre-pasted in the factory . do u have the solution to my hotkey problem above ? thanks !
*
U mention they replaced your hard disk. But they didn't mention if the hard disk is refurbished/reconditioned or new hard disk.
Hotkey problem usually u have just have to remove the existing atk package or just try to repair it. If software wise repair still fail. Then it would be ribbon issue.

Hi all,

I am about to purchase a G750JX, but have doubt if I should wait for G750 refresh, like the G750JS rumoured to have GTX870M.

My situation now is I do have a working laptop, but it's 7 years old. I am definitely not desperate in need of new laptop, just my desire to have one.

So what is you guys opinion: Buy G750JX now, or wait until probably Aug/Sept for G750 refresh?
*
Wait if ur willing to wait, but it would be better if u have easy access for maintenance and upgrade purpose.

Ahh I think I should post this here tongue.gif

My Asus G53JW lappy's power cord seemed to be not working anymore this morning. However I have another power cord from my old lappy laying around and yes it does work. I am worried my lappy now is under powered although this is just a temporary solution. I am really glad the brick-sized power adapter is still running fine as I suspected it as the culprit earlier. Need expert advice here:

1. Can I just use any power cord for my G53JW?
2. And if I go to electrical shop, should I ask for the power cord with 7A and 125V labelled?

Please note that my original power cord from Asus is labelled with:
7A
125V

My temporary power cord comes with:
2.5A
250V~

I know this is silly, but the temporary power cord is used to power up a 65 watt old lappy but I believe the G53JW is powered up with 150 watt.

Real noob here, if u need additional info please let me know (input, output labelled on the brick power adapter)

Cheers
*
1. No
2. 19.5v 7.7A 150 watt brick. In lowyat stores u can get mostly 90w.

hi there
looking for a gaming laptop and other than MSI and alienware, i come across with this Asus ROG
is there anywhere I can get the pricing in Malaysia before I go to lowyat to search for it?
and does the components inside are upgradable, such as processor, gpu and etc..?
search for the pricing in lowyat, seems like quite hard lol
thanks  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

please refer to Asus Product Guide available at Asus MY page.

Processor is upgradeable(by your own risk, Asus Service Center does not provide such service) but GPU no. Maintenance is not easy as it looks.

here's my temp ONE DAY after sending to lowyat service centre for second repair (both time i ask for thermal repaste, they labelled as overheating)

user posted image

should i go to lowyat again and burn down their service centre or something ?
*
frankly speaking, as most of those ppl who had thermal repaste at service center didn't get good feedback. Some did get slightly better result, some don't.

But for ur case, seems like such situations below:
1. They did repaste, but ur vent is still stuffed with dust.
2. They did repaste but the thermal paste is low quality.
3. They didn't repaste.

I think you'd better get raymondtong94 to help u with thermal paste instead of sending it for service center.

The temperature is wrong. Its should be below 90c when stressed. (Stock cpu).
No, cpu and gpu are both not upgradeable. (All soldered this time)

From G55 onwards all soldered?

the differences are more than customizations. i don't wanna go into details but asus needs to take a serious look at what other brands have offered to customers. (most of the times it's the convenience and after sales supports that matter most than a device that has all the power in the world)

i like asus g-series. (well at least the g55 is a wonderful machine to me). however recent versions are really turn-offs to me. every time :/
*
I do like G-Series due to the design, but the current let down is they don't let u do self-maintenance is the turn-off point for me.

Malaysia don't have 3D for G750.

I guess that's the model if they are replacing you that model.
i7-4700HQ
4GB x 2
GTX 770m 3GB.

Do u have to top-up?

haha yeah of course~ the current external design i'm satisfied what. simple but elegant. And the newer design for g750 is quite nice too apart from the superb design that doesn't allow us to do the cleaning our selves and of course i believe the new design also comes with the 2 accessible ram slot and another 2 non-user accessible . lawl~ i think they are playing it safe. but too safe already. atleast don't solder the parts. We can do it ourselves. the GPU also follow standard MxM should really help. other than that so far the g55 perform well biggrin.gif
yep sort of smile.gif for g55 alone i've been using it since june 2012. I've lost count of how many times i disassemble my laptop sometimes just to re-paste, or clean the fan or sometimes misconnected something then have to re-do the whole thing~ =.=" and of course add rams to the non-user accessible slot

so basically my estimation time now to:

disassemble g55 : 15 - 20 mins (up to taking out the mobo)
clean fans and stuff : 10 - 15 mins
assemble g55 : 20 - 25 mins

few of us here actually could disassemble the laptop easily smile.gif since going to service center just for cleaning is too much of a hassle (going to kl is a no no =.=" traffic jams here and there~)
*
Pretty much standard asus doing style to their G-Series laptop. Only allow for RAM and HDD access.
Played too safe in design of the laptop, not allowing for maintenance.
Spent extra effort on redesign(reverse engineered) the GPU PCB like they did in Mars series.

Spec quite good. Is it a ROG series? no?

Sorry, If it isn't a ROG G(aming) series why am i posting in asus G-series thread? Frankly speaking that's a stupid question to ask.

QUOTE(holloway @ Mar 12 2014, 05:59 PM)
Its a g series notebook. So yeah its rog smile.gif . Thats the refresh for g55 i believe since it came with gtx760 a slight improvement towarda our almost extinct gtx660 lol

Ill edit the front page of this thread to let others know about g750 and the newer g56"

Although if u look at the specs for n56 and g56 its too damn similar. Difference i believe (correct me) is n56 comes with optimus while g56 does not
*
Apparently it looks like N56JR sprayed black, with bang and ofusion audio and malaysiaitfair reported it with IPS FHD screen for this G56JR.

Here's the source for the G56JR Specs for front page reference.

No offense, but i replied to u based on few reason.

1. Check the Posters ranking, ur one of the top 5, means u frequently follow up what's happening in this thread.

2. U have front page post credit for opening up and replaced thermal paste.
U urself own a G series laptop and i wrote there Model G56JR. U still can't differentiate the models?

3. As a usual smart net user before posting reply or starting a thread, GOOGLE UP before asking for suggestions or reply what is it for. That's what search engine are for in this era.

u r right, I post quite a lot in this topic. But it doesn't mean i know everything right?

If "EVERYTHING" meant to be Google, please tell me why are u here? Forum is for topic discussion, yet it provides info more than search engine can offer.

Sometimes I bizi to work on my own thing, and come back this thread randomly to check out the latest news and I might missed out some. Since I lazy to check back old pages, I always posted something that I could follow up later on.

If u feel not pleasant to ur eye to see someone's reply, you can leave others to reply. Calling names is just not right, IMO.

That's it. I'm not going to elaborate such minor stuff further. You win. Hands down.

Back to G-Series discussion, what sort of design will Asus attempt this Computex 2014?
