does anyone have the service centre number?
i tried calling 03 2110 0842 but no one picks up

my G55's cd drive doesn't seem to be able to read discs anymore ... was thinking is it worth the trouble to bring it to service centre to claim warranty. Was hoping they can check on the spot .. and if can swap the cd drive on the spot then better. I don't wanna leave my laptop with them overnight.

either that or just ... F it ... and replace my cd drive with ssd myself

I upgraded my G750 with Samsung 840 Pro and now it can boot into Windows 8 in less than 5 seconds. However I cannot emulate this with desktop pc which took like 20 seconds using Intel 520. sad.gif

it's not about the ssd only (well, intel 520 should be faster). the bios is different between desktop and laptop. even between laptops there are differences. for instance, asus laptops are fast to boot, because it has a much simpler bios (i compared my m17x r4 and g55. g55 has a slower plextor m5m msata, but it still boots faster than aw which has samsung 840 pro)

I guess so seeing that my desktop BIOS is the ROG BIOS (the laptop should have ROG BIOS as well, but oh well) probably it has more things to check (although I tried to disable as many as I can). Anyway, Intel 520 is faster than Samsung 840 Pro? I thought Pro is the fastest.

right smile.gif rog bios is very conservative and strict (but it's for your own good). they check a lot of things (sometimes it's like thinking too much when you need to do a simple thing)

lol! i guess i am wrong biggrin.gif

to be frank there are many variables come into play and affect the performance of your ssd. the benchmarks above are just benchmarks. the actual performance of a particular ssd on your system still varies.

edit:

.. and samsung 840 pro is the best all-around sdd imo; but the fastest title might be taken by ocz vector.

I think practically you can't even see any difference in tops ssds like intel 520, samsung 840 pro/evo, plextor and etc. Unless you benchmark them. So better just look for sata 3 ssd which is reliable smile.gif and to me samsung and intel tops.

i know i know biggrin.gif

the truth is, if you have a ssd and you compare it with the others that are in the same range (i.e. consumer vs consumer, enthusiast vs enthusiast), you cannot feel the difference. BUT, if you compared consumer grade vs enthusiast ssd, you will feel it. for common usage, consumer grade ssd is good enough.

edit:

.. and i like samsung and plextor now. they are really good.

Hmm I think your RAM is kind of overkilled, should have go for Value RAM and get a better WIFI card instead.
