1. Brand. Mainstream brand? - Something straight forward to root, custom roms availability is a plus.

2. Budget. - If possible below RM900 new or 2nd hand with atleast 3 months warranty.

3. Specs.
- Enough RAM and processing power to perform (4)
- Need Data instead of WiFi only
- Can set up WiFi tether
- Prefer atleast 8" screen but willing to take 7" if out of budget

4. What you need in the tablet
- For smooth usage productivity intensive apps and multitasking instead of gaming.
- as a productivity tool at work as well as entertainment(minus gaming).
- to avoid needing to use home desktop PC for normal surfing and web-browsing to save that little bit of energy consumption tongue.gif
- plan to get a stylus pen for it (be it universal or samsung's)

Thanks in advance for the recommendation and help. smile.gif

Anyone have great suggestion?

Asus Fonepad.

Try to stick with better well known models. Quality + warranty issues are you concerns.

I've had my fair share of chinese tablets, and tbh, the performance is good, but service/warranty leaves much to be desired.

Still relatively closed sourced sweat.gif

Qualcomm, nVidia would be a good bet. Even Exynos isnt that great.

I'm interested in either the Memo Pad 8 or the Dell Venue 8

Advantage of the Asus
- Asus build quality
- Source code will come
- relatively powerful chipset (rockhip RK3188 yo)

Advantage of the Dell
- Warranty
- 2GB RAM
- Better build (supposedly)

Neither has any news of upgrading beyong 4.2.2 hmm.gif

Asus Memopad HD now at RM445 only.  rclxms.gif

What is its biggest gripe for this model?
*
No front speakers like the Lenovo A1000

No aluminum sides like the HP Slate 7

No 1920x1200 display like the 2013 Nexus 7

No KitKat 4.4 like the 2013 Nexus

Original cases are almost impossible to find locally

But other than that, it's very good value for money biggrin.gif

Im still deciding between Memo pad HD7, and Fone pad, and Eee pad also since directd sell it really cheap  rclxub.gif

Fonepad got call feature... Do you need to make calls? If not its just a useless feature if you dont intend to use it.

Performance wise, i'd say both are about the same.

beside tablet, I was planning to replace my old phone too as to tether with it. If there is option to get both in 1 device why not?  tongue.gif

But then I will miss the quadcore experience, plus Im going to hate the fact that I have to carry it everywhere while being unable to fit it in pocket  doh.gif

but if I take HD7, sooner or later I will likely to get new high end phone.. then the tablet will mostly be forgotten  sweat.gif
*
Get Fonepad 7 then brows.gif

But its still not a quad core whistling.gif
