Custom glass display cabinet...
Aahhh..what every collectors dream that is..

Im sure all you guys would want a room just for your toys..each time entering it,like entering a paradise..

But my reality for now..everytime im entering my toys room..is like entering a shipwreck sweat.gif

By far now the best choice seems to be detolf. IMHO, detolf is the last choice i would consider. It makes all the PVC looks bottled up in a glass cabinet. Been searching for tempered glass cabinet builders from local furniture shops. Even went into figurine shop asking them their contractor who build their shelfing. Found one in Kepong with quote of RM1.7k. The buildin 4X4 that you see in figurine shops, that cost about 4k. With the limited space i have, I am considering not to go for a build in but a tempered glass cabinet for both books and figurines.

I saw a nice tempered glass small cabinet which is the double of a detolf size in 1Utama, a shop that sells transformer, 2nd floor. That itsels also looks presentable and affortable. That seems like a quick solution. Dont know where to get it yet.

Detolf is only 4-tiers..and the gap allows dust to get in..and price not really worth its features..but it's sufficient for a decent display cabinet you can find..

You can even custom to make several more tiers if you need to,as long your figures can fit in height..

Dear bros. question please. How many category are there in this hobby? So far what i roughly see are:

1. nendroids (tiny figurines..)
2. Figma (with articulation)
3. PVC statue
4. Hot Toys
5. Sculpture

Not touching nendroids and figma because they seems quite small and the articulation are too obvious. PVC and hot toys seems to be the rather porpular choice (presentable) And then there are sculpture (saw a shop in Curve specialized in this) Can anyone share their experience preferance on the above? Would be great to hear more from collectors on their experience in this hobby.

Well in a way, buying one statue a month is like installing a Viva already. Both cost RM300+ a month. Just trying to plan the route ahead so i dont end up having to selling everything away in future cause of lost interest.. Or like most of the sellers in garage because of wifey cannot tahan? tongue.gif

Just buy what you like, people can't really give you an advice on purchasing figures unless you want to invest in them.
My wife never comment on my collection or hobby of any sort.

I prob never going to sell my figures.

I'll give it to my children later in life.

Below I just get random figures that I Like over a long period of time.

Actually figma is under small action figures category (which include SHF, Revoltech etc)
PVC statues and sculptures actually are under same category, which is static figurine
Hot Toys are actually under 1/6 action figures category (which also include the military action figure, medicom etc)

Haha actually lost of interest cannot be planned one; once you lost the interest, whatever route you plan ahead will just go into the drain tongue.gif

Haha..
What i see there more to budget for collectors

If you in very tight budget but die2 also wanna buy toys, can try figma or nendo..lots of playabilities with their optional parts..

Pvc probably somewhat advance level..scale figures or non scale but they usually static..some figures now i see trend, they will include optional parts for different poses..you cant play much..but really can admire the craftmanship

Hot toys more focus on other than anime characters..hollywood movies..very minimal on anime, they did made city hunter figures back then but not really a successful..

Statue is like pvc..but on different level of material..they used polystones..if compare to pvc, much more pricier..
Polystones i think much harder to sculpt..and prone to break easily..so much for its price..some pvc do get polystone treatment..but for me,i be easily go for pvc..cheaper and easy to care..but some major companies who made figures that not related wit animes..they made statues for serious collectors..like characters frm comics..xmen,dc,marvel,etc ..statues do feel much more exclusives compare to pvc..

In the end..yes,buy what feast your eyes..

I have meet some collectors/sellers who are easily twice my age. Nothing wrong, but the common sight i see are they are retiring or having to sell off their statue because of family/wife/gf. I think on an average a collector in this hobby spends 10k - 20k in the LR. So before going too far, just want to do a reality check with experience collectors here. But I already have the answer, collect moderately and only figuries that we like.. ohmy.gif

Yeah i like the detailness of the PVC statue. especially the head and back part. Very detail crafted and it is artistic. Can make our GF/wifey jellous at any time. biggrin.gif

Sculpture cost about 1.2k to 1.4k each. But i find the facial craftmanship a big off and its too big to store and display. Considering most of our places are mostly inside a room rather than a whole house, sculture are just too bulky. But i saw a GIJOE baroness sculpture, she is hot wub.gif And the latest coming poison ivy, will make your wife wanna break her legs. laugh.gif

Detolf is also my last choice. One of my friend received a defective unit and the thing came crashing down with the figures. My room's shelves and pretty much all furniture are custom made, and in the future i might also go for more wooden shelves or cabinets, or custom designed ones.

My family has no issues with my hobby now, as for gf/wife, I have to make sure i get one who can tolerate or like them. I dont want a spouse wants to b!tch about my hobbies because 'she dont like it'. B!tching about "dont like it" is different from advice on my spending spree. That's simply selfishness. But i have met someone who loves anime and figures as i did, and she always try to show interest or learn about boy stuff, like gadgets and PC Games - even watches me play CODMW, Street Fighter, etc. This is the kind of girl i want. thumbup.gif

EXkurogane, can post a picture of your build-in shelfing for your PVC statues please? Just want to get some idea on display shelf for statues. Idealy wooden cabinet seems more solid as i can store my books at the bottom tiers and leave the eye level tier for statues and collections. Sharing poison is also caring..

I hear you on the above. However 90% of Msian girls believe this hobby is a taboo. Like some inhouse otaku kinda plaything. Well im glad i have my own carrier and spend on PVC at my own expenses. PPl wanna say this hobby anti social anti terrorist or whatever idc. As long i pay for my own bills. icon_rolleyes.gif
