I may sell it off if it drops below -5% of simple ROI

Is 5% a lot for you? I thought of selling one of my fund if drop a bit more than 5%. But I was thinking if other fund profit can cover the loss, should I even think of selling it off.

Gosh. I will never let my portfolio touch that high % of loss. Definitely will cut loss.

Luckily in terms of value, it is not so high
*
Ya. I get what you mean. Even though mine is around -3% at the moment, in terms of value is small. MY bond fund and HASQ is more than sufficient to cover them.

Why cut loss... shouldn't you buy more.. isn't that what portfolio balancing is about. If you cut loss you are timing the market. and most market timers do not fare well. Most of the time, the market bounced back when most retail investors cannot take it anymore and cut loss....thats where bull markets are born.  wink.gif

-40% wor?!?! If your total portfolio is RM1k OK lar. If RM10k how? That's what I think lar. You have to ask David for details. He's the one who really encountered that before.

Well my UT investment during 2008/2009 also down to >-50% also like that, the lower it goes the more i buy.. now already >100% gain.  tongue.gif  Selling my bond as fast as it can during the period to switch to equity.

And the amount is not little, it's 6 figures.  wink.gif  Once you have a method (ie. balancing), you can block out emotions easily.

But not for the faint hearted. Whatever goes up will eventually comes down and vice versa.
*
I support the theory that whatever go up will go down and vice versa. But the question is ever over how long period, and you will never know when it hit rock bottom.

I will monitor closely at PGSF. They took a chance at Asia market, so we'll see how it goes. Was planning to enter into a MY equity, but it's bull is slowly down (or even over), so I think I'll invest in a Asia large cap.

Do share your point of view smile.gif open for discussion.

I am trying to digest this.

Why hard? Like my case IRR 7.8% but 1 fund is bringing it down. But I stay invested nonetheless. In simple words, if your other funds can cover your losing fund loss, top up the losing fund. That is Pink and gark theory.

U have to do it yourself.

1. Look at your funds' latest monthly fact sheet, here u can see the geographic allocation for each fund
2. Do your own chart

E.g.
Your portfolio size: RM10,000
Fund A: 70% Malaysia + 15% HK + 15% SG, and u hold RM8,000 in Fund A
Fund B: 80% USA + 15% Europe + 5% HK, and u hold RM2,000 in Fund B

HK exposure in your portfolio: (RM8,000 x 15% + RM2,000 x 5%)/RM10,000 = 13%
GEM underperformed lately, and if you look at the charts for Russian and Brazilian equities
Pink, enlighten me here as I'm trying to calculate my geographical allocation for PGSF and HSAQ. But can't seem to find the it in the fundsheet.

http://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/admin...eetMYPMFGSF.pdf

Btw for HSAQ case, if 12.5% is in cash and cash equivalent, my total calculate portfolio would only be 87.5%. It wouldn't tie back to 100%.

See my chart, I also have a part for cash

As for PGSF, they dun have geo allocation on monthly fact sheet. I just take their latest annual/interim report geo allocation

U have to get used to the "new normal", 10% annualised return is a thing of the past the way I see it.
*
I was expecting around 10% too. But I'm happy with my current return too. Well, almost..

dunno, I never bothered with the cost column. I keep track of overall portfolio cost on my own, never bothered with cost of individual funds that I have.

If I'm not mistaken, they track by weighted average cost.
*
When I did my first purchase I thought the SC is charge on the total invested amount, and remaining amount is used to divide your NAV (of transaction day) to get your units. But how they do is they charge the SC on your NAV (of the transaction day) - added into it, and not deducted from your total invested amount. Just a different way of doing.

Not sure if this was what you were asking smile.gif

Next will be A to AAA bonds if this continues... if FF pull out even more money.

Enlighten me here. Haven't read the newest 2 pages but any reason why FF is withdrawing their investment?

You can see the MGS & A-AAA corporate yield curve.. if rising means, money is being pulled out

Is it OK to say that as investors pull out money from it, less attractive, bond increases their yield to make it more attractive?

Should I sell off all my holdings, realize profit and go shopping. Or maintain and go shopping. If go shopping, at least I still can realize some gain right? hmm.gif

You can realize some gain and use it to buy to other funds.

I'm aiming for Hwang Asia Quantum and Hwang Select Opportunity.

Aiming to sell? My profit drop from 20% - 16%
