Privatefirewall -
Personal Firewall + HIPS for Windows Desktops and Servers. https://www.privacyware.com/personal_firewall.html Highly customizable and more importantly it's freeware. I'm using this at the moment because of buggy state of Comodo Internet Security 6. Probably will stick with it throughout this whole year, provided if Windows Defender is capable enough as stand alone AV protection. |

Have anyone tried the pfSense and SmoothWall Express ?
These are BSD & Linux based firewall OS..... and YES its OS itself. Means you do not need any other OS to run it & it can be configured to an extend just like enterprise firewall appliance. Both have a good browser based GUI, but I find the SmoothWall Express to be more user friendly. But pfSense does packed some punches in terms of features & functions. Do take note that pfSense is not for beginners, noob is recommended to try the SmoothWall Express instead. Both runs on old system but better hardware is recommended, nonetheless if you do have an old PC laying around doing nothing, maybe its time to make it a good firewall for your own home network, no harm rite ? Happy Computing ! |
