Not worth it to use cc at those small pc shops.. they refuse to absorb the cost. Thats why I only buy at the bigger ones like ALL-IT, no extra charge using amex.

You can report to report to the bank or visa/mc/amex if you can provide the evidence..but i guess this is the part which is difficult to prove. As a consumer, we have choices too. Make own calculation and see if it is worth it to purchase at that shop, or maybe you can get a better value at others...or maybe by using other CC or even cash if you can get a better deal.

the fact that almost all small shop i went to doing this extra charges makes me wonder if they're really legit

one of the shop owner told me that bank is charging them when we use their card facility on every transaction, hence it is unfair for them.. makes the profit taken away from their pocket

U do know that even in more developed countries, small shops give CASH DISCOUNTS if U pay with cash?
It's another way, perhaps better, than some here stating $100 price but charge $103 if credit card.
If they state $103 but give one discount to $100 for cash purchase, same numbers but different psychology on buyer gua

Well, that is the cost for using the facility. Perhaps, some already pass on the cost to customers. If they don't want to pay that cost, then make it as a cash only policy. But to display AMEX/VISA/MC sign at the counter/door and then lie to customers that the machine is broken down, etc..that is unethical.

what surcharge the shop charges you when you buy is probably different from what they are being charged by their merchant bank.

Typically in the retail trade, high turnover merchants are charged between 1.4% to 1.5% for MC/Visa. Most new merchants get charged 1.6% to 1.8% for Master and Visa but when they surcharge you it is usually between 2 to 3%.

For Amex retail commissions taken from merchants are around 2% to 3% making it almost double MC/Visa. Shops will normally surcharge 3% to 5% for Amex.

Even if they "broke the law", it is very hard to report to BNM. Lets say happen to win one case, in future, they might just jack the price up by 2-3%, so the power is still within the merchant.

very hard to handle this case in Malaysia.. So we as consumer can only boycott this type of shop.. AFAIK, only Viewnet and AllIT dont have surcharge to use Amex in Lowyat..

i tried using at Jaya Grocer at The Intermark, when they first open they did accept it... after that no longer accepting.. probably due to the charges too..

as for clubs.. Zouk also no longer accept AMEX

Maxis Pay By Phone feature will be taking off very soon. Now this service is only available to the old customers while new customers won't able to perform the transactions via Pay By Phone already. If you want to use AMEX to pay, the option would be you call Maxis CS and leave them a message saying you will to charge to your AMEX, then they will call you back (dunno when they will call u back, not nessasary weekends). So things get harder for us to pay Maxis Bill with AMEX unless you use Direct Debit.

just wanted to buy groupon using amex yesterday night
it use MSOS now, but after i key in the TAC, ipay88 show 'Fail', Error Description is 'Transaction is approved'

Weird case, maybank said they approve the amount, now in floating. but groupon said they unable to retreive it, thats why failed. gropon can only proceed refund tmr as ipay88 is not working today = =

How come subway pyramid Adidas does not accept Amex? The pdf file from maybank website stated otherwise.

You can complain to the CS. Perhaps the cashier is new or the terminal is down. Is there AMEX logo displayed at the cashier desk or entrance door?
