SDS stand for Sudden Death Syndrome and this is a common term use nowadays to indicate a phone die without noticed.

For Samsung S3 it was very common to early batch from May 2012 to late Jun 2012, in short those who brought during launch date. So far no concrete root cause and many speculate following:-

1. Only effecting early batch from May 2012 to late Jun 2012 but many early batch still running strong. thumbup.gif
2. Many said due to insane Chip in early set but this is only one developer speculation base on information gathered.
3. Many said due to overnight charging but smart phone should cut off when charge is full.
4. Many believe latest 4.1.2 will fix the problem but some believe harm already started and FW upgrade will only slow them down.
5. Many said latest MOBO eliminate the problem but someone who change MOBO to latest version M.P. 1.5 die twice.
6. Many scared and sold their phone in early stage.
7. Many hope to get SDS before warranty expired, like me  drool.gif  laugh.gif but no luck. doh.gif  shakehead.gif
8. Many said due to Custom ROM but Stock user also facing the same problem.
*
this.....is very disturbing information....

but thanks for the info.
i shall wake everyday in fear that my phone cant be turned on.

Yes but your phone already injured by last version and newest version may stop from new injury but not cure the old one. sweat.gif

I no idea, I didn't flash any custom ROM right now because microsd died 2 weeks ago cry.gif
still claiming warranty
*
You keep saying this. What does micro sd got to do with flashing rom?
Just put in internal memory and flash away.

Format in cwm doesn't wipe internal memory.
You're the one that told me that.

I've confirm it. My tb backup is in internal memory.
No issues.

wipe data / factory reset in cwm main page is didn't wipe internal memory
*go mount and storage > format / system > everything inside your internal memory gone = whole android OS gone

don't confuse it, and in my previous post I did mention is format system, not factory reset
2 different case
*
Usually just format system in cwm enough already for new rom. Wah u delete everything in internal memory also? That's so overkill. Lol...

i believe sds only affects the earlier batch. If you just got it recently i think you're save from it as they're using the newer motherboards. Go check out what motherboard you're having now. If its MP 1.4 or 1.5 then you're safe..
*
i use the app to check say mine is using the insane chip.
how to check motherboard version?

Just bought NFC tags from this dude.
The cheapest I found in garage sales.

So far only use 2. I stick in my car.
Once scan, off wifi, set media volume max, start play music.

Another tag is for
Wifi off, on GPS, screen time out never, media volume max, launch navigation app

Not bad. But still have plenty more unused tag.
Reserve them for future use. Can't think of any more practical uses.
Any suggestions are welcome.smile.gif

Well on XDA said stock 4.1.2 is okay because it have the updated kernels and all..

I'm craving for CUSTOM ROM (I'm a hardcore flasher).
Any good custom ROM with multiwindow support (just noting, not sure if all custom ROMs have this) that you guys used for your daily driver?
*
Omega rom have.

Yup, got this words!

You got conned la.

Only ori battery have nfc.

Most likely they replaces the battery before they sold to you.

I bought spare battery also. Cost rm 39. Good battery life but without nfc. The packaging n outlook is exactly same as ori battery. Also got label nfc, but in reality dun have this feature. I knew before I bought it.

So which mean the back case is not the problem but the battery is the cause, is it?  So how much is the price of  original battery?
*
You have to go Samsung store and check.
But my guess is more than 100.

Then might as well buy the 3000mah original s3 extended battery for RM169
*
Exactly.

I bought my battery from brotan in garage sales.
The battery life is equivalent with my ori one.
It doesn't have nfc but it only cost rm39.

For that price, can get 3 battery already.
Good thing Samsung back cover easy to open.

here are the list's of my complain to them

1. Intermittent data connection
    - Switch off data and swittch on, then become ok
    - Problem repeats
2. Very often phone shows no signal for a moment and then back to normal
3. Messaging application crash very often
4. Same duplicate application at task manager as though the OS unable to manage the tasks
5. Phone lagging massively
6. When reboot "contacts" icon become missing from the main lock screen

so they told me some damage to mobo. ask me not to charge the phone overnight...

Finally happy for the new mobo and must not charge overnight after this.  rclxms.gif  rclxm9.gif  biggrin.gif
*
So lame reason also they change mobo?

These kind of thing sounds like a factory reset can solve already.
Charging phone overnight doesn't cause any harm.
