Oculus Go is like a standalone Gear VR without the need to purchase a Samsung flagship phone. Its somewhat compared to a perfected google cardboard VR but the lack of positional tracking makes immersion limited and may even cause motion sickness. Because of the limitation of a mobile hardware, i cannot run high end VR apps.
200 usd for 32gb and 250 for 64gb. I do not recommend  32gb bcoz good VR games would take a few gb. and ull also wanna space to store movies/series inside (assuming ur gonna use it for travelling).
Battery and cooling will be a major issue in these type of device.

the Rift games require GTX 960 (gc being the bottle neck in VR apps) with decent processor and ram. that being said, u can always lower the supersampling and activate asynchronous spacewarp.
but tbh unless u really want a portable VR without using a PC/laptop, i would still recommend to just go for AWMR or Lenovo explorer, which atm claimed optimized for GTX 1050TI and above.

Hi there guys. How are you? I'm into photographs and video productions and is planning to venture into 360 videos/photos via HMD. I'm hoping to obtain some suggestions from experts in the field for the HMD and laptop.

The HMD will mostly be used for viewing and experiencing immersive 360 high quality videos and photographs. Additionally, I would also like to tryout some VR games particularly Beat Saber.

My current budget is around 8k - 10k and I'm considering to get the HTC vive + Alienware 15 GTX1070. Do you think its overkill for such usage? A high resolution and smooth play of video with HMD is my utmost priority.

Thank you!
*
Have you try FluffyTee play Beat Saber on WMR ? should be ok right?

For gaming laptop..yes WMR i think is the best option. You only need 1 USB port and no need power plug like Vive.
I prefer Oculus Rift but the Rift you gonna need 3 USB port. If fully 360 tracking need another 1 more shakehead.gif

But the Alienware 15 wif 1070 cost almost RM8k woo. If you choose Vive sure more than 10k sweat.gif

However only the HMD need USB 3.0, meaning the sensors you can plug into normal USB, meaning if not enough USB, a cheap USB hub is enough for the sensor to plug in.
*
hey you the guy selling the Rift everywhere biggrin.gif
really can use on cheap usb hub? have you test on any 360 fast paced game?
i plug into 2 usb 3.0 another 2 sensor on usb 2.0 pci-e expansion card

QUOTE(FluffyTee @ Jul 11 2018, 11:59 AM)
WMR on beat saber works fine for average player. but i do hear it problematic at high difficulties. i tested the game out abit. its more lime a fun demo.

just a side note: WMR requires an excellent bluetooth adapter for the controller to work. otherwise an additional usb for bluetooth adapter and maybe extension cord is needed.
wierd why wmr diny put it as their requirement in their ads.
*
yup suppose WMR have a built-in BT or any wireless connection from the headset like Vive and Rift

yup both my sensors are on normal USB 2.0, no problem tracking my constantly swinging arms playing beat saber expert mode.  laugh.gif

Haven't really tried it on RPG or first person shooter games cuz too much time spent in virtual race car  tongue.gif

Say, if really worry tracking will be affected and want to prioritise the sensor, we can always plug other USB device such mouse, keyboard etc into USB hub so that sensor can plug direct to motherboard's USB slot instead.
*
Racing game only need 1 sensor blush.gif i'm not hardcore on racing game la.
Only have Logitech driving force gt and no proper cockpit.

yup exactly, and its hard to tell people how real VR feels like unless they really experience it themselves, because no videos or gameplay recording can translate the 3D VR environment that player feels when being in VR.

Being a CV1 seller, people often compare or ask me is it as good as Samsung Gear VR  sweat.gif . I tell them, this is so much more than Samsung Gear VR.
*
compare with Gear VR still ok lagi la.. last time when i plan to buy the Rift my friend offer me his RM10 VR Box..he got pening after 5 minute playing it sweat.gif
many people were spoiled by this google cardboard vr standard

to play vr pc games? you can use ALVR..the free version can only play i think 10 minute.
good for games that doesnt require 6dof that much like racing/flight sim or 3rd person view and use xbox controller

Used 1060 6GB should be around 1K or below now since mining no longer profitable but at the same time your 1050ti also will drop resale price.

Rift disadvantage is only the camera need to be tethered to PC. Other than that Rift is good.
*
i'm using 970 on the rift..the 1060 maybe around 10% quicker than 970. If youre in budget for me ok la 1060 but otherwise wait till the new nvidia RTX come out and buy used 1070ti at least laugh.gif
some games like Lone Echo or even the new Oculus Home 2.0 menu is getting too slow frame rate and getting too much stutter.

Aiming to try out RTX2070 when Rift2 is out. Tired of waiting without any news.
*
i dont think Rift 2 will be come soon..most probably after 2020
next year might be the Santra Cruz..which is premium Oculus Go with better gpu and 6dof tracking headset/controller
by the time the Rift 2 come out with 6k or 8k resolution that 2070 might be too slow already sweat.gif

Then at least rift revision with virtual link and hopefully no longer require tethered camera as sensor.

Wireless vr = should be expensive with latency limitation

standalone vr like go very limited in performance but works for social vr and media
*
the oculus santa cruz will use 4 headset tracking sensor..so there is possibility the Rift 2 will use it also

they aim the quality graphic on par with the Rift with 75hz refresh rate

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Aug 21 2018, 11:47 AM)
I'd drop a 2080ti, but I think I'll wait for Vive 2 or Oculus Rift 2 announcement first.

New HMD is pretty immenent with the USB Type C/VirtualLink availability in the new gpu.

it still run android..spec almost identical with Samsung Galaxy S8:
-Snapdragon 835
-4GB RAM
-3200x1440p
-4 camera sensor for inside-out tracking
-64GB storage

so there will be some less demanding graphic Rift games will be easily port to Quest like example the Lucky's Tale or even Beat Saber.

btw the oculus rift now can support the oculus mobile apps rclxm9.gif

at least my Rift still can last another year or two till the next Rift

Unfortunately, yes. But of ur gc is able to handle it with at least 1.0 ss, it would anytime be more resource effective than using a rift/vive with higher SS.

Also wmr dev has been trying to improve their motion temporal reprojection. Its quite choppy, and i personally prefer using async and interleave reprojections.
*
is VR games will automatically resize resolution base on the headset? since most VR only games doesnt have setting for resolution.. only have supersampling
if you use gtx 1080 than should be no problem..but my i5 6600 and gtx 970 will be no no laa on 4k headset sweat.gif

Just to clarify terminology to avoid confusion. Resolution is fixed regardless of app. Steamvr will try to guess super sampling and adjust accordingly during play( im not sure bout oculus).

Wmr claim it can support 1050ti gc. But not sure to what extend.
Fyi even a gtx 1080ti with i7 cannot maintain full frames during rec room rec royale.
*
is that ur pc spec? but ..but Rec Room is so simple shader..low poly..low res texture biggrin.gif

the only game tht quite struggle on my humble rig is Lone Echo, Doom VFR and those racing game with VR support like Dirt Rally and Project Cars. Its still playable with lower setting but it will still always turn on ASW spaceWarp 45fps
