Updated to 4.4.4 (flashed the tw mobile region firmware)
Scrolling smoothness is return to normal if compare to last update which is a bit laggy
Now try open location service and see the battery usage

Z3 compact seems interesting but I'm hoping for something with removable battery too.

most manufactures are moving towards non-removable battery.
you may have to drop a tier lower

i dont think sony will release a true succesor since z3 compact is there to fill the midrange void.

Yeah Z3 compact is in the same range of ZR if it was the successor.

Yeah man. There is always hope. thumbup.gif . So far there is no concrete reason for me to change actually. My Xperia Ray lasted almost 3 years and I still use it as my 2nd phone, and my ZR is barely a year old. And one of the reasons for loving the ZR is because there are still rolling out updates for it.

updating to KK 4.4.4 ( 10.5.1.A.0.283 ) via pc companion will remove root.

flashing ftf via flashtool will remove root too. there's no way to root this new firmware. towelroot will not work as Sony have patch the exploits with this new kernel.

so the only way to have root access and recovery is to flash pre-rooted firmware....via recovery.

i have prepare the pre-rooted Stock 10.5.1.A.0.283 for those interested. this is based on Taiwan TW stock firmware.

Pre-rooted Stock 10.5.1.A.0.283 download link: for both LB & UB

from experience, updating via OTA should be root friendly...

could you update this new 4.4.4 thru OTA? i'm not sure you're able to do it via OTA since this is not a minor update, the kernel was updated too...i couldn't wait for the OTA update, the moment the TW 4.4.4 rom is out, i already make a pre-rooted version and flashed it ! rclxm9.gif

for me i always always prefer a clean update ( wipe off everything and flash new firmware )

since you're on 4.4.2 rooted now, you can always do current rom backup via recovery. if anything went wrong somehow, you're just a few click away to restore everything back....
