I have this problem with my tyre. The outer side tread ( as shown on the pic ) is almost worn out rather than then it become worn out evenly the whole section of the tyre. It happen to both the front tyre.
FYI, my car is a 2 years old Toyota Altis still with the original set of tyre and donning close to 30KM now and I did all the alignment regularly with the toyota SC all the while..
So, Izzit anything to do with the alignment or wat. Anyone know izzit this normal coz i had not this kind of situation with my previous car tyre.

Have the same problem with my 3 month old tyre

attributed it to my hard driving, adjusted the camber setting on the tyre and it wears semi evenly now.

Maybe your wife drive like a maniac without you knowing ?

My gf drives way faster than me at time. LOL

Anyways, could be the following
1. Camber Setting
w. Tyre pressure.

Haha..my wife..i wish she is the dare devils some times....
Ok..tyre pressure..i am sure is not the issue coz i always check it...like once in 2-3 weeks. so it could be the camber setting..i am noob here so can you pls explain more on this..many thanks

Probably not the best person to explain about camber. LOL.

From my understanding, it is like this.

When the camber setting is off, in this sense, probably positive camber, during cornering, you will be eating outside too much .. (This could be due to potholes and etc altering the camber during the pothole impact)

The way to resolve it, is to adjust the camber to a more negative setting, hence giving your tyre a better angle.

By doing so, you will help balance the wear on the tyre.

Hope this sort of explains it.

I might trust the Toyota SC too much..never checked what they did and i can say also that u will really frustrated most of the time coz when u highlight your problem to the mechanic, they either give u some long face and answer you half hearted or worse they seem like don understand the language.

BTW should i change my tyre now or it still could be used till it worn out evenly after the re-adjustment of the camber setting...

yup..since already nampak benang....

just change new tyre and while they do the alignment make sure TOE setting is 0.0degree which is centre point of the steering (+-0.1 is acceptable)

and chamber setting should be -0.5 atleast......most car would have -1.0degree of camber.....some with heavy cornering would opt for -1.5 or more...

2 years? Time to change la. Opt for used tires or even China made ones if seriously low on budget. I'm using brand new China made Good Ride... as long can stand 12 months, I'm ok already. After all, in 1 year, even with good tires, I have to patch 10 times and spend 4 times doing alignment / balancing. And since car is hardly use, cheap tires will do. No need Toyo or Falken.

Agree with this!
Too much toe-in will eat up your outerside faster while too much toe-out will eat up the inner side faster. Toe should be close to 0.
Positive camber ( tires from the front looks like this: \ / ) will also do this. Have to align just a slight negative camber (about -0.5 to -1 for normal daily driving), but if you like to corner fast then can setup -1 to -1.5 but may eat up the inner side faster (going fast in corners will wear the outer side more too hence need to counter with more negative camber).

Yeah, better not buy China brands yet, with that budget there are plenty of good choices. If you want to save a bit, can try GT Radial Champiro, those are good value for money, offering pretty good performance at cheaper prices compared to well know brands like Michelin, BS, BY, Yokohama, Dunlop, Toyo, Continental, etc2.
But make sure you fix your alignment or else you'll have the same problem again like now.

Previously I used Astar 300 and the damn tire lasted 3 years. Also not bad for spirited driving on my ride, a lightly modded smart forfour up at Genting Highlands every Sunday. Only after 1.5 years, can feel lesser grip. Hey, for RM 700 complete plus alignment and balancing, not bad la.

Contrary to the popular belief, camber don't actually wear tyre down that much or fast. Even at negative 2.5-3, it still won't cause that much of obvious one sided wear lol.

I can assure you that the toe is the culprit here for your case.
The feathered worn pattern shown on the picture is the dead giveaway.

I had the same problem on my Civic's stock tyre as well (Michelin Pilot Preceda)
And this happened after I sent my car to service in Honda Service Center and they asked if I want to do tyre rotation and alignment. Never ever trust any service center to do proper alignment job for you :/ But that's just my opinion.

this pretty much. because if you're on negative camber, the extra/increased wear should be limited mainly on the shoulder, at most until around the first water draining groove, not all the way to the middle lol.

to TS:
do read this and learn how to read alignment (toe/camber/caster) readings
