sillage and longevity is quite okay. i would say average, but the notes are interesting and unusual. No wonder its now part of the Les Parisienes line, rebranded as L'ame du Heroes (Spirit of a hero)

What's equally interesting is that it is said that different batches of Aventus smell different. I have no idea how true it is but everyone in BN and fragrantica are saying the same. Hmmmm

for those of us in this hobby, burnout is a very real thing. Here's a small list of youtube reviewers who have quit the hobby after a few years..

QUOTE(attacusatlas @ Apr 9 2014, 10:25 AM) Thanks for sharing. Excellent reply there I don't really watch youtube review (in fact I hardly watch youtube - I prefer reading physical books) but I totally can understand the reasons behind and one of the major factors is ones goes all the way out, too fast, too furious and overloaded - you tend to get bored and burnt out easily. It is not much about the money spent. Well, you will always find other avenue to burn your money. Perhaps a little more healthier mindset is love perfume if you really love perfume. Don't partake in this hobby if you view it as a cool and trendy matter. You will struggle at the end of the day. My 1/2 cent worth. I agree with you atticus, that going too fast too furious will cause a faster burnout. Which is why every perfume forum recommends that beginners should never start with niche and to explore the designers first. I just followed that advice back then in 2009 when i discovered Basenotes, and im still enjoying perfumes now. |

QUOTE(AlvinSii91 @ Apr 9 2014, 01:21 PM) RM30 for a vial (should be around 5ml) as its not exactly a common scent Mine is the first edition bottle featured in the review, not L'ames du heroes, and about 25ml remaining so have to sell a bit more.. QUOTE(killdavid @ Apr 9 2014, 02:10 PM) If you follow fragrance group in FB you will see the problem is the more interested you get, the more you tend to hoard fragrances. You see guys growing their fragrances to 50, 100, 200, bottles. Some many fragrance so less time to really wear and appreciate it deeply. They all usually end up in cut price sale. On Basenotes, what happens is the individual who has a huge collection would sell off all of them or 'trim' their wardrobe. Sampling is advised from the start to reduce disappointments and wastage, especially with niche. Blind buying is dangerous.Sampling is the way to go. 10ml can last you a long time if you have a wide selection. |

QUOTE(Fenrir7 @ Apr 10 2014, 01:54 PM) I'm wearing d'Un Soir as well today, my 2nd try. If you enjoy vetiver, do try Guerlain's Vetiver. It's still one of the classier vetivers IMHO. The different company's Sel de Vetiver is good as well, and of course there is Chanel's Sycomore which is like an earthier version of Encre Noire. I really liked how it smelt at the first whiff, during the first few seconds, after that it gets really rosy/flowery etc, but I like it more than I did the first time i wore it on my wrist. And yes you are right about the longevity and projection, I only gave myself 1 spray to my chest this morning, still very noticable now. I wore Lalique's Encre Noire yesterday, and it just conjures an image of a.. wet, mossy forest? lol. I can't tell the ingredients but it had a very thick, sludgy smell in the background, like some fresh ground herbs/leaves that I didn't find very appealing. Don't know if that's cypress or vetiver or something else. Then that died down and got a little 'sharper' and incensy which I liked. Not sure if L'Occitane's Eau De Vetyver is 'proper' vetiver, it smells quite different then Encre Noire but i really enjoyed that one. Very woody. Just not too great in the longevity department. Kindly pardon my lengthy but lacking in substance amateur ass opinions. i think I am going to get samples of everything Edward is selling lol. PS: Im a huge vetiver fan too! |

QUOTE(t0n3 @ Apr 13 2014, 04:32 PM) SOTD - English Fern by Penhaligon's looks like an advert! I like!! It's English Sunday for me. A classic barbershop smell with lavender, geranium, clover and a touch of oakmoss. It's quintessentially English! It has below average projection and moderate longevity on my skin. Anyone care to join me for cream tea? ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(pj_guitarist @ Apr 16 2014, 09:31 PM) I'm always more intrigue on a perfume that triggers certain memory in us , like if i get a whiff of a girl walking and she actually smelled like a beach vacation i used to have in the 90's , or maybe rosy scent my gramma use to wear like musky rosy which probably can't find these days that would like make me fall in love and want to know that girl more, just by the scent, now imagine you can actually trigger a girl's memory via putting the scent that actualize scenes of her past that would be such a killer perfume. As Jeal Paul Guerlain had said, scent is the most powerful memory. I think its because the olfactory nerves are connected directly to the brain rather than going through other intermediaries. Thats why I use classics because it triggers memories Scents can directly affect one's mood, which is why i have many to rotate between moods, or when i need an all-day picker upper. In my case it is for my personal enjoyment, rather than to show off (because other malaysians dont care about the scent you use anyway). It's kinda different if you're in a more perfume conscious society like in europe or the US where wearing strong perfumes in the office is frowned upon, or that people will actually come up to you and tell you that you smell good. |

QUOTE(pj_guitarist @ Apr 17 2014, 08:51 AM) you don't know how much truer your words can be in the malaysians society on how timid they actually is, and even if u make the first move they still rather run in the shell than just out with it. You can read body language like if they look at you more than twice and when you notice it they'll rather look away than stay engage in the eye. But it does helps that you smell nice and be confident and pick up those cue they left, and ask how's ur day and all,and get her number but it is hardwork here. an asian thing probably? being timid and less ballsy in taking chance. It is due to lack of exposure that these behaviors persist. So we have to adapt to that. Even at the gym for example, many people would not be friendly to each other and only some people will. In other countries, people make friends readily and easily in gyms. Difference in culture.though it's interesting to know paul guerlain's remark, but would you care to note just some of ur fav classics scent? maybe YSL opium? i always love the smell of my father's opium especially when he came back from outstation when i was little and i can smell it all over his collars, so i get one when i got the chance, and it did struck me with one girl in particular which happens to think it's such a manly smell. Hey! That's Jean Paul for you! Kidding! I have several classic favorites, the most loved of all would be Mouchoir de Monsieur, first created in 1906. There is also Chanel Pour Monsieur, Mitsouko, Habit Rouge and Eau Savauge as well. My grandfather used to wear eau savauge. Mitsouko is quite manly for a woman's scent, and the famous Ballet master Serge Diagaliev loved Mitsouko so much that he would spray it on his curtains. It also happens to be Charlie Chaplain's favorite scent. better get YSL opium from parfum jewel and not counter as they would have probably reformulated it as YSL was bought by L'oreal who basically f***ed up the perfume formulations for more profit. They ripped my beloved M7 apart :'( |

QUOTE(pj_guitarist @ Apr 16 2014, 10:36 PM) Sure got risk one if the stakes are high, i would definitely still wear a scent that can get me scarlett johansenn's in my arm, even if the scent would kill all the surrounding plants when i walk in a 10 metre radius around it lols. sadly that wont work in malaysia. and usually it dosent work.you just wear to hook them on the fishing line anyway, like a stranger's brief encounter, not on long term everyday thing, hook em and get a date then after that wear your dior Fahrenheit and armani code ahahaha best is to get a scent that she can smell when she is close against your body. If you reach that level *adjusts monocole* |
