does anyone of u experience this:
everytime u play a movies that u download (in this case i play from my NAS), when i click the movie file and press enter to play, it will jump out and go to dolphin browser automatically. then i need to exit the dolphin browser and go back to media again and click the file second time again. Only then, the movie will be played.

anyone experience this? i find it quite frustrating
it only happen recently and i dont know why
previously i never encounter this

yes, i experienced this.

same with firefox.

i believe these browsers's updates have enabled it to hijack the box.

remove those browsers, use chrome or brave, no problem.

Currently, i'm using a HTPC (4k HDR capable) to watch 4k HDR movies using Kodi, however, i find that Kodi does not have a stable version that supports HDR colour management (i.e. BT2020, etc.). So, i decided to use MPC-HC with Madvr filters to watch 4k HDR movies, however, the HDR colours are not that 'pop' if compared with "Movies & TV" (with HEVC codec) player in Windows 10. However, the Movies & TV player is not stable in streaming 4k HDR videos (i.e. may produce some jitter/ judder).

Hence, is it worth to get the Himedia Q10 Pro for 4k HDR downloaded movies alone? Will the Himedia's enhanced Kodi player be able to produce the true 4k HDR colors and play the 4k HDR movies smoothly?

there are many box players that can do 4k hdr.

himedia does not use "enhanced kodi player" or free generic players like kodi, mx, vlc that others use.

it has its own native himedia player, capable of auto frame rate switching, full bluray menu.

the player can deliver nicely... what u get also depends on your TV and AVR if applicable.

Hi AVFAN, we meet again (from Sharp UA6800x thread) I've just purchased a new 4k HDR tv (Samsung 55 inch NU8000) few days ago. Now trying out 4k HDR movies for the first time. However, playing 4k HDR movies using PC is not easy, need to find a software player that supports HDR metadata, need to do color space switching manually in graphic card settings everytime, need to set the HDR colour space to "On" from Windows 10 everytime, jidder/ shutter issues on the software player.

After watching 4k HDR movies, need to switch back the colour space and HDR to "off" in order to browes the internet (if not, the colours on the windows will appear "washed out").

Therefore, i'm looking at solutions for watching 4k HDR videos without manual switching the colur space settings. I think, the best solution is still buying an Android media box for 4k HDR, 1080p videos consumption.

So now u use the himedia native player to watch all your 4k HDR and 1080p contents without the need to manually switch the colour space, resolutions, frame rate? May i know what is the settings (i.e. resolution, colour space, etc.) u're using for your q10 pro player?

Is there any shuttering/ laggy issues if you enable subtitle while watching 4k HDR content? cuz i read from other forum that some users reported that once the subtitle is enabled, the 4k HDR content will start to lag/ shutter.

I read from other forums regarding q10 pro that the users will set the himedia resolution to 2160 @ 60p, YrCBr 4:2:0 8 bit, HDR 10 for watching 4k HDR and 1080p videos...so that they dont have to set the resolution settings and others manually if they switch from 1080p content to 4k HDR content. Is this the optimum settings?

In additon, can the q10 pro act as external HDD if using the USB 3.0 port from the back of the device to the PC? Because i will download the 4k HDR content using my PC and then transfer it to the q10 pro

u r right - it is a lot easier to use a box for 4k hdr.
it also depends on the type of "4khdr" files. some are heavily ripped, some are full; some in iso, some in mkv, some m2ts.
i do not know how well other box players do for such files but i can tell u q10pro can do all of them nicely.

hdr must be set for hdr files only and if the tv+avr can handle; if not, yes, u get washedout colors.
q10pro, u set to auto, it will deliver HDR if the file is such... the rest will be up to the AVR and TV.
color space - 444 10bit can only be used if file is 24hz; if 60hz, u can only do 420. becos 2160p 60fps chroma 444 will need hdmi2.1 for all equipment, cables - this is not the current std yet.

there are many ways to set, up to individual preference.
q10pro will auto framerate switch but does not auto resolution switch (there is an unofficial customized way but i did not find it reliable).
i set my box to 1080p 50hz - as a base, best for online streams that i use a lot.
when i playback 1080p, it will auto go to 1080p, 50, 24 or 30 or 60 depending on the file.
when i play 2160p hdr, i manually set to 2160p 24hz becos most 2160p hdr are in 24hz; it will change to 50hz, 60hz if file is such.


no, i have never encountered this. the files i play are always with embedded subs, PGS, works perfectly.
such a problem, i can imagine will arise from use of ext SRT subs.

i do not like to set 2160p to play 1080p videos - i prefer the original from source/q10pro, let the TV upscale.


yes. u can transfer files between PC and Q10pro int HDD with the special cable.
u can also do it over wifi with an app but is much slower.

if u have never used an android box before, good to start somewhere.
it is one of the best players u can get for local playback of big video files.
it is also good for online streaming.

Im actually comparing the q10 pro with MINIX U9H...only downside for me for the MINIX U9H is no internal HDD bay. Q10 pro is much "neater" solution

In the end, I guess HDMI 2.0 kill all the AV kakis, causes alot of HDR issue, HDMI 2.1 will eliminate the 4k HDR and chroma issues.

Yea, i always thought that Android box is useless if you have a desktop PC..i guess i was wrong..now i need one for 4k HDR videos, and i will leave my desktop for web browsing, downloading and gaming only (no need switch the reso here and there).

The "special cable" that you mentioned is included in the q10 pro package right? i assume the special cable is USB 3.0b Male to USB 3.0a Male?

for minix u9h, nicety can explain more to u as i hv not used it.

the hdd bay is a great feature - allows u to store/playback a lot conveniently.

it is also very handy if u use kodi quasar or utorrent to DL direct.

that cable for PC-Q10pro connection... no, it does not come with the purchase, u need to source one... u can use any common printer cable.


a few more things for u to know if u dun already:

.. astrogo and/or unifi playtv apps, q10pro (and u9h) works perfectly ; others, i will check carefully.

.. if u have a great LAN setup with fast wifi speed, u can stream even 4k content/hd audio over wifi via samba direct from PC to q10pro.

.. if u r into BDMV files, q10pro will give u full menu, u get all the extras like "the making", etc.; other boxes, u dun get.

I see, how's the speed in downloading torrent directly using q10 pro? i read that some users reported the download speed is not as fast as using a PC. Will it shorten the lifespan of the q10pro if download torrent directly?

im mostly downloading those REMUX edition 4k content, so i guess the full bd navigation is a nice touch.

im using TIME 100 mbps currently with asus ac1200g+ router, not sure whether router can keep up with the file size of the movie.

Have u tried playing 400mbps bitrate 4k content with q10 pro? will it lag/ shutter?

I just saw another android player, Egreat A10, looks not bad on paper, similar to q10 pro, but not sure about the firmware support

If not mistaken, 4k HDR rips are around 100 to 200 mbps bitrate at most

tested those before.. ok with q10pro.

4khdr rips - the small ones are only 20-30mbps bit rate; largest full ones i know are 80-90mbps.

of course, during short bursts, bit rate can be higher.

u can see the data on the info bar when playing.


of all the files i have played, thee is only 1 type q10pro won't do - hi10p type.

i see, thanks for confirming. Is there any issue playing 23.976 files? i read from the futeko forum that some users reported that they cant play 23.976 files properly due to the frame rate is fixed at 24p. Is it only affect 3D files only?
