Budget: RM1500-RM2000

- Your rig: iPhone 5s
- What type of usage : music
- File format used in your source: Spotify (extreme bitrate)
- Genre of music you listen to: Rock, Pop, Alternative.
- Headphone/ earphone type: circumaural
- Other requirements: clarity and punchy bass.

Tempted to get beats solo II after it's been heavily marketed on world cup with all the players using it tongue.gif but i'm open to pro recommendations smile.gif
*
Theres no need to spend 2k on a headphone while using spotify on a phone honestly.
But the headphone would still make a huge difference.
My favorite for rock and alternative is MS1 from Alessandro and NAD Viso hp50.
And with your budget you have a huge list to go through. Better try out and choose yourself unless you're going for brand image hmm.gif

I am current using a Philips SHP8000 or something like that , 4 years i've used it . Now the sound will have like a woofing sound , I guess the film of the speaker is torn . or is it? Haven do a disection of the headphone to find out yet. But anyways 4 years is quite long time already . I'm thinking of buying an Audio Technica ATH-M50 . But i'm thinking is this headphone ok for an update to my old headphone or is it an overkill and i won't be likely to appreciate what the headphone has to offer.

Your rig: iPhone , Computer , TV
- What type of usage : music , movie
- File format used in your source: quite alot of formats for movie and musics tongue.gif
- Genre of music you listen to: Anything except death metal tongue.gif
- Headphone/ earphone type: 50mm over-ear

Thank you sifus in advance smile.gif

You can check out Alessandro and Grado if you're not going to use the headphones out side since all their headphones are open.
For closed headphones you can also check out Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro, NAD Viso HP50, Shure SRH840.
If you really want to go with Audio Technica you can try out M40x as well. Or if you want to go with a bass heavy headphone Pro500Mk2 and Pro700mk2.
Cheers~ biggrin.gif

I can't belive I'm asking this, but well, here it goes.

Any recommendation on headphones for me to pair it up with my Xonar STX?

Currently using the DR150 and the MDR-1R, I did read some reviewers says to tried out some of the higher impedance headphone to really bring out the STX true potential, but I don't really know if that's true.

If possible, I would like to keep it 400 and below, but I could stretch a bit if the option is the best choice

Requirements : Comfort (I do wear glasses) , I do prefer the sound signature to be neutral, with a bit of emphasis on lower bass, and smooth highs. Wide or expansive soundstage.
*
For RM400 I would recommend the ATH M40x, and it has an extremely balanced sound signature. I've only tried from my phone so can't say if it would sound better on other sources.

Hey all,

I was reading on both these models and the Samsung Level Over (SLO) looks really impressive. I'm considering my first high-end headphones and I've decided between these two, as they have:-

1) Bluetooth
2) Active Noise-Cancellation
3) Over-the-ear Design
However, I read reviews that MM 550-X has 'lag' issues, something that is prevalent in devices using Bluetooth 2.1 (SLO uses Bluetooth 3.0 and Apt-X). Also, MM 550-X is a pretty old design and it pricier vs. SLO.

Additionally, I find that there are very little videos/reviews on the SLO...almost like no one's interested in them. Any particular reason for this?
Anyways, what's your take?  smile.gif
*
I've read good reviews about 550-X, but this is the first time I'm heading about SLO. Probably because they don't advertise much on it tongue.gif
Have you considered Sony MDR-1R NC by any chance? I can't really say much about bluetooth or noise cancellation headphones because the only headphone I've tried is an Audio technica one (forgot the model) which had a decent sound, good noise cancellation but plain horrible when the battery has little to no charge.

Your rig: Surface Pro, Desktop and Smartphone
What type of usage: Mostly gaming and youtubing, some music
File format used in your source: mp3
Genre of music you listen to: Mostly classical
Headphone/ earphone type: IEM only (planning to carry around with Surface, and not looking weird)

Budget: <RM800

Newbie here. My experience with the best headphone I ever owned is the wireless stereo headset for ps3 and that's all. Never tried anything that's better. The problem is that headset faux leather crack and shred miserably within just a few months.

I want the IEM to last at least for the next 3 to 4 years and hence the big budget (hoping the earbud will not shred like the headset). Is my budget overkill for my basic use? I'm considering seriously on Audio Technica IM02. Is RM800 sufficient for this model? Is there any other worthy or better competitor model to look out for?

Last question, is there a thing that can add a mic to the IEM without sacrificing the audio quality? How do you use IEM that doesn't come with mic to answer calls? icon_question.gif  notworthy.gif
*
If you are going to buy ATH-IM02, there is a replacement cable that has mic. which costs a bit more than 100rm. Planning to order mine from cdjapan smile.gif
If you want a bit more bass for your gaming you can try out ATH IM-50 and IM-70 which sounds good for the price (and is much cheaper than IM-02). The IM series in general should be fine in the long run cause the cable is replaceable, because that's where trouble usually first hits for an IEM.
Audio Tecnhica CKR9 is also an excellent choice. The build quality is good, and the sound is extremely good. I forgot the price though. You should check out this one before buying anything biggrin.gif

Hey, thanks for the reply. Did some research on the replacement cables. I'm assuming IM02 comes with the HDC1 cable without mic in the box rather than the premium HDC5 cable?

In your opinion, is IM02 a revolutionary difference as compared to IM50 or is it just a tad better? If a lot better than IM50, I will invest my money on IM02 instead.  biggrin.gif
*
I was actually talking about the HDC1iS/1.2 cable, which is the probably the same quality as the stock cable for IM series instead of the upgrade, heheh.
I'm using an IM-50 and i've compared with IM-70 (IM-70 sound a bit better than IM-50 but imo IM-50 is much more worth the lower price) but I haven't been able to test out any of the BA ones. Theoretically (and from reviews) speaking IM-01 and IM-02 would be better than IM-50 and IM-70, in terms of transparency and detail. But the dynamic drivers in IM-50/IM-70 have their ups as well, which is having more bass. From what I've read, IM-02 sounds quite different depending on what you're using as well, while IM-50 generally sounds the same (can't really back this up since I'm not really pro unsure.gif ).

One more thing, if you're planning to get something for the long run, it's better you test it out yourself before you buy. I have been stuck with IEMs and headphones (mainly due to budget limites sad.gif ) I didn't like before sweat.gif

Hi all.
I have owned the following before:
1. Beyerdynamic DT990 250ohm pro -- I like the V-shape sig but somehow the coiled cable adds a bit of weight and the clamping force, despite being subtle, still hurts the sides of my head after 1.5 hours of usage.
2. Alessandro MS1i -- The best sounding pair I've had so far. But comfort issues are plaguing it, so I let it go. Also, some built quality issues.
3. Logitech UE700 -- Completely flat-sounding, really doesn't suit my tastes.
4. Beyerdynamic DTX501p - Sig is too warm, but pretty decent punchy bass.
5. Audio Technica ATH-AD900x - Awesome soundstage and clarity, but the airiness you get makes it sound like you are listening in a Live environment in certain songs, which is a bit fatiguing for me. Top-class comfort, though.

So now Im in a pretty big dilemma looking for the "best pair".
Can anyone recommend me something with similar sound sig as the Ms1i, but more comfortable and durable ? (On ear, over ear doesn't matter)
I listen to alternative rock, classic rock, classical, a bit of Pop here and there. More focused on Alternative Rock though.

I'm actually looking at the Sennheiser HD598, AudioTechnica ATH-ESW9, Beyer DT1350, Beyer Tesla T51p, and Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear.
*
The "best" headphone would depend person to person, and what they listen to. Most of what I listen to are alternative rock, classical rock, bit of metal and electronic jazz. And I would prefer the MS1i over MrSpeakers Alpha Dogs, albeit the comfort and build quality.

I've never tried MS2i, but it seems like it has better build quality. Tried it before? hmm.gif
For rock, I like the sound signature of fischer audio fa-004, shure srh440 (don't remember how the srh880 sounds cause haven't tried it in a long time) and I'm a big fan of Audio Technica looks/build quality and sound so..... - M50x is really good for the price although you can get better. nod.gif

You could try getting different pairs for different music, so depending on your mood you just use what you feel like using laugh.gif

I recently tried out the audio technica ath S100 (S100is with mic), don't remember the price but you can get it for between 100 and 125.
Extremely good performance for the price. (I tried it out at shop in Pavilion, near KFC if i remember correctly)

IM70 soundstage isn't that wide. But extremely well on the mids (vocals and a lot of air instruments like flute etc etc) and really good on the lows as well. But highs are... quite soft. The mids and the lows over power the highs.

What music do you listen to and what's your budget?

Did some research where most of the person will recommend IM50 for this budget. IIANM IM50 is quite bassy but I'm not sure how good it is in term of clarity. hmm.gif

IM50 is comfortable to wear for long periods of time, especially with the comply foams provided thumbup.gif
As for clarity, vocals are really clear, but over powers the treble/highs. Bass is quite good as well.
It depends on personal taste though.

ATH-CKS55X should be really good for edm and house as well (around 200rm in malaysia, mic version for 150rm, normal for 120rm from cdjapan - you do have to pay for delivery though sad.gif ). I've used ATH-CKS77X which I got for around 210rm from cdjapan. Not sure where to get it from in Malaysia, but even if you did find it here, would be a bit more expensive.
