QUOTE(Eris @ Jun 18 2007, 04:21 PM)
Day 1 (Sunday)
Arrive in Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali @ 7:30pm.
Rented Katana (Suzuki Jimny over in Malaysia) for 5 days from Indotrans Astri as recommended by Stimix (Rp125k/day, plus another Rp25k for next day delivery to hotel - I didn't really bargain also, probably low season now).
I've got complimentary airport transfer by Matahari Bungalow which I booked from the internet @USD24/night (a/c with hot water). Place is nice, reasonable breakfast, but the Balinese room setting is quite dark and shower pressure is quite poor.
Walk ard Kuta town. Went to Kuta Night Market but it's no pasar malam, just some food stalls.

Day 2
Kuta beach
Poppies 1 and 2.
Lunch @ Warung Nikmat - highly recommended Javanese food - it's somewhere near Bakungsari Inn.
Head to Ubud through Sayan (Can see rice field terrace). Passed by Batubulan with lots of stone carvings. Then head to Tegallalang. Beautiful sceneray on the way.
Watch Barong/Jauk dance - 1 hr (Rp50k/person)
Walk around Ubud town.
Stayed 2 nights at Puri Jati Homestay (Rp90k/night), Jalan Hanoman, Ubud. Nice people and right in front of the rooms are ricefield! Again, the room is pretty dark. Breakfast is good. Highly recommended. Do ask the homestay people if you want to watch dances or go Reptile park as they can show you the way and get you tickets, of course he will earn some commision from the ticket seller. This is a good way to encourage locals to help tourist to find their way there.

Day 3
Sukawati - Pasar Seni, Woodcrafts, handicrafts, artworks, etc.... great souvenirs, arrive early for less crowded shopping. However, not all are craftsworks are fine. Also bought Salak fruit (snakeskin) at the parking area - must try - nice!!!!
Passed by Mas - Teakwork - did not stop as most of the items are too huge for me to carry home.
Reptile park - Have snakes, frogs, crocodile etc.... I'm only interested to see the Komodo Dragon - they have 3. Paid a hefty Rp80k/person (USD9)
Lunch at Ibu Oka, Ubud - Famous Babi Guling - must try!!!
Ubud Palace
Pura Tirta Empul
Gunung Kawi Monuments
Goa Gajah
Dirty Duck Dinner (Bebek Bengil) - not as good as reviews. There is no place to park your car but Jockey service is complimentary.
Day 4
Zen Spa - Mandi Lulur (1hr 45 mins) - Rp115k per person. They have room for single and couple room. My 1st SPA experience - so I cant really give a good comment. But I find it nice and cheap.
Had lunch at Bakso Pak Kairun (cabang Pellatan), located at the big roundabout at Ginyar from Ubud. Good Bakso.
Head to Besakih through Iseh and Sideman, nice ricefield terrace view.
Pura Besakih - You can either walk nearly 1km uphill or rent a bike to go up. We had a tiring walk up anyway.
Pura Kehen, Bangli - Was raining, so we just drove by and view from the car and snap a few pics and head to Kintamani.
Stayed in Astra Dana, Kedisan, Very basic room facing lake Batur. Intermittent hot water, water is cold at altitude about 1500m. Anyway it was only Rp50k per night, what can I expect? Not recommended unless you are on thight budget.
Drove to Toya Bungkah during sunset. Lots of lorry carrying volcanic sand/rocks going out of the mountain for construction. Not recommended if you are not used to driving in narrow+hilly+winding+night+on-coming lorry roads.

Day 5
Woke up and witness beautiful sunrise right in front of our room!
Wasted 2 hours due to my Katana baby was chocking. (refer below transport)
Got a guide to bring us to the 1999 (or somewhere that time) lava area below Mt Batur somewhere nearby Kedisan. Really had a 4x4 experience on the volcanic rocks. The guide promised us trekking and lunch for USD15 but he convinently forget about arranging lunch after trekking and say goodbye until I demanded him to show me the restaurant fo lunch.
Wanted to go to Pura Ulun Danu Batur but the entrance sarong lady wanted to rip us off off with unreasonable price (Rp40k/person) so we just walked off (then price dropped to Rp10k/person excluding entrance fee/donation) but we went jalan-jalan ard Kintamani by ourselves instead.
Had buffet lunch at Gunung Sari Restaurant. Average food with majestic view of Mt & Lake Batur, but lots of flies.
Then head downhill Banjar Hot Spring. We liked it, it's far north abt 7km west of Lovina beach.
Stayed in Sri Homestay, Lovina (Rp75k/night)- the black sand beach is right in front of the room. Beach is dirty, full with rubbish. Room has lots of mosquito but they provide aerosol, so it is OK after we came back from dinner.
Sunset dinner in Penimbangan - a beachside hawker center. Dinner for 2 with 1 large Bintang was only Rp22k!

Day 6
Go up to Lake Tamblingan thru Anturan>Selat>Tukadjuwuk which only took 40mins to climb. This route is the shortest from Lovina. Narrow and often very steep (only 1st gear can make it), with a short stretch of broken road. I used this route to save time, otherwise not recommended, use the longer main road.
Great view of Lake Tablingan and Lake Buyan at the top.
Pura Ulun Danu Bratan in Candikuning. Nice place. Bought sweet potato keropok with chocalate sauce (Rp5k) and a pack of strawberry (Rp5k). Must try.
Pura Taman Ayun in Mengwi
Pura Tanah Lot
Pura Uluwatu - becareful of monkeys!!! One of them grab my glasses although I was holding it. Those monkeys are trained to grab anything from tourist to get food from the guy who you will need to "tip" to get your belongings back. I bargained until Rp5k from Rp20k. Other than that the sunset view is superb here.
Sharkies in Jimbaran for table on the beach seafood dinner. Disappointing food. Try other restaurants.
Stayed in Simpang Inn, (opposite my 1st night Matahari Bungalow) in Kuta. Rp190k/night.

Day 7
Sunbathe in Geger beach. Quiet peaceful beach with view of Pura Gerger on the cliff. But the beach looks dirty with dead seaweed washed ashore (not rubbish) along the beach. Where are the topless chics???
Go airport.
McD in airport is not fastfood. Cashier told everybody they need to wait 15mins. One guy complained that he waited 20mins for his food and he wants a refund as he is gonna miss his flight if he waits any longer. We had AA nasi lemak instead - good.
Try to get the right window seat when coming home. I think you can imagine the view if there is still sunlight and clear sky!

I agree with stimix. I worried so much before going till headache. Take it as it comes along. You may change your plans when you're there as everyone has different preferences. Whatever it is, take your first time there as the groundwork for future trips!! I know i definitely want to go back to bali again! Always remember its a holiday! Not meant to be rushed and rigid.
Like myself...I paid Rp400k while I could've paid Rp250k! cry.gif

Thanks a lot guys! I guess I worry too much..hehe..

BTW, I'm paying Rp400K too per day. Somehow, I feel more secured hiring recommended driver although the price is more expensive. The most important thing is the driver must be honest. I'm wondering whether we have to pay for the driver's lunch and dinner? How much tips do u guyz usually give? FYI, I'm hiring my driver for 3 days.

Also, how can we make phone call back to Malaysia? Do u guyz buy SIM card there? rclxub.gif

Rp400K is a bit pricy...even those Mat Salleh in Virtual Tourist website mentioned avg Rp300K only...As what experience by Jootat, on 1st day, using recommended Pak Geded might not be good and he got better driver , the nxt day which is much cheaper sumore... biggrin.gif

For calling from Indo to M'sia, u can check wth ur phone service provider on any special fixed rate/min of calling from Bali to M'sia...I am using Maxis and the normal rate is RM2.50/min from Bali to M'sia using special code *120*6 XXX XXXX XXXX#....

Wow 2 weeks shocking.gif ..damn lucky-lah....just like Mat Salleh..style biggrin.gif ....At first I tot u going to Barong Ubud. Bcos I enter the boutique hotel b4 and the rack rate is >US$180/nite drool.gif ....Den on closer look Barong Kuta.. biggrin.gif

So soryy I'm not clubbing kaki so not so sure those bars u mentioned but I do know the famous Paddy Bar. It got bombed in 2001 and rite now they are located few block away from the 2001 bombing site...Others never heard b4... sad.gif Also if u interested on another famous Raja Restaurant which was also bombed in 2005, they are now no longer there. The existing Raja restaurant nxt to matahari has changed name to "Dulang" and they (Raja) moved further to Seminyak..on the same Jln Legian & just beside Bintang Supermarket- at Seminyak.

amyho, perhaps you can try jootat's driver. It's much cheaper than Pak Gede. I didn't buy him lunch or dinner. But of course I bought him some fruits from bedugul. Depends on how generous you want to be.

My hotel in Kuta, which i stayed in was about 100m from the Ground Zero.the bali bombing place. The hottest clubs that I hear open now are MBarGo, Bounty and KamaSutrah, which is along the main kuta road, beside the Kuta food court.

I'm planning a trip to Bali in December. RM1000 per person inclusive of airfare and accomodation. Where is the Roxy/Quiksilver outlet? Anyway, what's shopping like over there? Mostly local stuff or is there a lot of other surf brands? Is it cheaper for surf brands there?

Sorry for so many questions. Insane shopaholic here. And also, is Mercure hotel a good place to stay?

Mercure is located few blocks away from Hard Rock Hotel and also fronting Kuta Beach & Jln Pantai Kuta...Should be OK at that location...Other than Quicksilver, another famous sufing brand is Bilabong..They are everywhere..even imitation also a lot such as Balibong!!....The factory outlet of Quicksilver, I think is located on the Nyurah Rai Bypass towards Busa Dua from Kuta...not so sure...not game to this sport blush.gif

In Bali the only really cheap thing are those Wood Carving, Bali Batik, Stone carving, Local T-shirts & clothings & etc,

Those branded clothing such as uluwatu, YSL & etc are not cheap..unless there are megasales there....Dun bother to buy those branded stuff too...go for local Bilabong for RM5/T-shirt rather than RM50/T-shirt for ori... biggrin.gif ...My wife always ask me to check on Uluwatu blouse but can't afford one..How to ah 1 blouse start from US$100 & above.. cry.gif

Outlet shoping should be cheap right? What do you recommend doing in Bali for college students aged from 18-20? And what recommendations can you give about getting around? I know there's heaps of info in this thread, but I gave up after getting to page 16 because there was SO much information. So if anyone can give a summary, like.. in point form? Hahaha.

Well, i just turned 21. so basically whatever u see in this forum is relevant. Go thru it... no shortcuts otherwise ur bali trip aint gonna be as nice as u want it to be. That is if you appreciate culture and nature. Go clubbing in kuta la! or try surfing! I really regret i didnt learn.
I went shopping at the Kuta Square..saw everywhere posted Sale up to 80% discount! But the prices are similar to here. I was told by my local friends that if your looking for clothing and branded goods, go to Bandung..definitely not Bali. Billabongs n Quiksilvers are still expensive...wish i found the factory outlet store...was wishing i could come back with a lot of new clothes.

Yeah, apparently Bandung is amazing for shopping! But supposedly there's a Factory Outlet store with Guess and all in one of the plazas. So I gotta go check that out as well. Anyone did watersports and stuff?

well..i just back from Bali last Wednesday.....it was a great journey...I go for 4 days 3 night...n i manage to go to see Dolphin at Lovina...but it kinda rush n also tired.....I did try their SPA @ Verona SPA, Ubud...is recommended.......n wat can i say is "GREAT".....

for those who wan to buy cheap thing, SUKAWATI is highly recommended...the thing there is much much more cheaper than Ubud Market....go in the morning will be better, coz Balinese there believe that the 1st business will bring them luck, so, no matter how low the price u offered, they will give u...

I stay in Masa Inn @ Kuta for 1 night, then 2 night in Graha Hotel @ Ubud....both also not bad..Masa Inn n Graha hotel is cheap yet good service.....I prefer Ubud rather than Kuta...

Deamland n Uluwatu is must go when u in Bali......the sunset in Uluwatu is extremely beautiful...Dreamland beach is nearby Uluwatu, u can go to Dreamland b4 u go for sunset in Uluwatu....

the whole trip including flight ticket, i spend around RM1200-RM1300 only....flight ticket i grabbed 1 way for free, another way is pay...so the flight ticket is around RM300.......not expensive...
