Hey guys,
I plan to go with airasia. Now, do u think a hotel by the beach is really necessary? Or is the kuta beach generally nice? Cos the hotel I wanna stay is Dewi Sri Hotel. Anyone been there before? Its says its near the beach but not directly on it. Also, any1 been to the diwangkara holiday villa?
I really want to go to bali! 5yrs never have holiday.

ah, another question, do most of the hotels there have late checkout? Cos the airasia flight only at 20:10...so late.

Did you go for any spas? Can recommend any? I'll be staying in kuta when I go. Kinda disappointed won't be seeing crystal clear water..but I guess I have a lot of other things to look forward to.

Nice stuff! Maybe can make a biz selling to singaporeans!
Well, you went in 2005 right? Indon's inflation is quite high I hear. Update us on the current prices when you're back. Maybe those pests sellers are smarter n not so desperate anymore.
cry.gif rm7 for plain nasi goreng? Gosh... looks like maggi will be part of my daily diet.

I'm goin this August..staying at Dewi Sri Hotel at kuta.. Booked thru the airasia package cos didn't want the hassle of booking separately. Is it reliable? or do i need to double check with the hotel. I hope my hotel is comfortable. Was planning to go to holiday villa but not much reviews online about it. And it seemed far away.

Stimix, at jimbaran there, is it only seafood served? I think finding halal food is gonna be a problem for me.
Would you happen to know anything about taking surfing lessons? I would love to try that in kuta. thnx

Aaah...I just got back from Bali! Finally join the club of those of who have experienced Bali!
I miss it already. The weather was surprisingly cooler than here. At night the breeze is sometimes chilly. You'll never get that eating outdoors at our mamak!
I used Pak Gede as recommended. Not bad. Rp400k for a full day, Kijang. Jootat, was what car did u use for ur trip? U sure you would recommend ur driver over pak gede? I might try it next time if cheaper.

So, I went to Taman Ayun, Bedugul, the monkey place, and finally tanah Lot on the first day. Bedegul and Tanah Lot are must-sees I believe. Oddly, the pura in Bedugul was smaller than I expected. Looked much bigger in the pictures. I went for a boat ride around the lake. Costs Rp80k for a speedboat. But you must go in the morning/mid-day. Otherwise it gets too foggy. As we were leaving the whole place was shrouded with mist.
Next day was mostly Ubud, for shopping and sightseeing. I also visited several museums. Pecutatan or somthing like that has some interesting architecture. Its the place where the royal family committed mass suicide rather than surrender to the Dutch.

I actually stayed in Kuta most of the trip. Kuta as you know is great for surfing etc but I wouldn't recommend it for families. I managed to see a lot of hot surfer chicks n topless sunbathers. brows.gif My mother wasn't too impressed with it. Made a mistake of booking a hotel called Dewi Sri Hotel along jln Legian near Ground Zero. Dirty and noisy rooms. yawn.gif I had stayed in Sahid Hotel for a week before my family came. The hotel was reasonable. Right in front of the beach but nothing too fancy. On my last day we moved to Holiday Villa Sanur. Much cleaner and better I think. Oh, I think people should stay in Ubud if have a chance. One nice hotel is Royal Prita Maha. Beautiful.

Places to eat.. Halal food was a concern for me. The hotels are rather inconsistent with their halal policies, except for Holiday Villa which is malaysian owned. So, where did I eat? I ate at Padang food, and mostly Pizza Hut. McD and KFC were doh.gif the chicken is so oily and not nice. And more expensive than KL. Discovery mall has some halal food in the food court but its a lil pricy compared with home.

Well, back to reality......

My Rp400k was inclusive of petrol but not entrance fees..ie. those ticket u have to pay to enter the temples etc. If jootat's is incl. of petrol...then next time i'll surely use his!

I didnt find much at sukawati.. its cheap yes, but no quality. Shopping at Ubud is much better. I suggest you go there. Btw, where is the Quiksilver factory outlet? Never found it. I looked at all the shops and they were about same price with here.

I agree with stimix. I worried so much before going till headache. Take it as it comes along. You may change your plans when you're there as everyone has different preferences. Whatever it is, take your first time there as the groundwork for future trips!! I know i definitely want to go back to bali again! Always remember its a holiday! Not meant to be rushed and rigid.
Like myself...I paid Rp400k while I could've paid Rp250k! cry.gif

amyho, perhaps you can try jootat's driver. It's much cheaper than Pak Gede. I didn't buy him lunch or dinner. But of course I bought him some fruits from bedugul. Depends on how generous you want to be.

My hotel in Kuta, which i stayed in was about 100m from the Ground Zero.the bali bombing place. The hottest clubs that I hear open now are MBarGo, Bounty and KamaSutrah, which is along the main kuta road, beside the Kuta food court.

Well, i just turned 21. so basically whatever u see in this forum is relevant. Go thru it... no shortcuts otherwise ur bali trip aint gonna be as nice as u want it to be. That is if you appreciate culture and nature. Go clubbing in kuta la! or try surfing! I really regret i didnt learn.
I went shopping at the Kuta Square..saw everywhere posted Sale up to 80% discount! But the prices are similar to here. I was told by my local friends that if your looking for clothing and branded goods, go to Bandung..definitely not Bali. Billabongs n Quiksilvers are still expensive...wish i found the factory outlet store...was wishing i could come back with a lot of new clothes.

Anyways, the food at holiday villa is halal. But dont expect much for breakfast. When I went just the standard eggs n toast n cereal.
Hmm... rm574 is quite high. Which room are you staying in? The villas?
