QUOTE(mrl @ Sep 27 2013, 05:46 AM) i think not much to worry on that department with the mentioned skins... if the keyboard is part of the cooling system, the air is vented out through the gaps of the keyboards and I dont see the skins close the gaps based on the picture... dont know the real thing... normal usage its not hot. Intense gaming its warm to the touch. What I did try before was watch a movie using external monitor with the lid close. After the movie when I 1st open the lid, it was very warm the keyboard, but then its only for a few minutes then its back to normal.though, if that's the case isn't playing games on the laptop is very uncomfortable? since you hand is in touch with heat all the time and it's not like part of hand, pretty sure your whole arm is heated up... man, i can't even stand with only my wrist burning up. |

QUOTE(sss2sssss @ Oct 18 2013, 04:07 PM) BTW to any one update their Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro and get this error: for y500 just enable secure boot in biosSecureBoot isn't configured properly I got a solution can solve (only for Y480/Y580) First u may download 5DCN87WW BIOS (mine one is from 5DCN40WW [Win 7 BIOS] previously) and flash this BIOS (I'm not 100% sure that every machine will be flash successfully, mine is success, please do on ur risk) http://www.mediafire.com/?r1h3prqy6d97g93 after that ur laptop will be restarted, notice the message still there, it's normal since it still no complete yet. now restart ur laptop and once it appear "Lenovo" logo press F2 continuously. It will go inside the BIOS menu. Inside BIOS, go "Security" -> "Restore Factory Keys", then "Exit"-> "Exit and Save Change" if still din disappear, go back to BIOS and "Security" tab, but click "Reset to Setup Mode"-> then "Restore Factory Keys", then "Exit"-> "Exit and Save Change" This should fix that problem, just update the new SecureBoot key for Win 8/8.1 in UEFI mode If for Y400/Y500/Y410p/Y510p, since the BIOS preload and the updates is for Windows 8 already, so I think the BIOS got that kind of function too |

QUOTE(mecha @ Nov 24 2013, 12:58 PM) Booting up my Lenove Y580 seems slow. Using the original preloaded Windows 8 and my laptop does not have a SSD. Go Settings/Change PC settings/update and recovery.I plan to do a clean OS install but how to do it without losing the preloaded Windows 8 license? Any ideas? Basically its recover your win 8 to default like a newly installed computer like when you just bought it. |

QUOTE(romeo57 @ Feb 8 2014, 01:29 AM) Guys, anyone having problem with shutting down or restarting? You better do a full scan for malware on your computer. I just recovered from a bootkit/rootkit virus. The symptoms for mine was the same. Really long shutdown. I only discovered the malware through Comoro Killswitch (unknown process). It'll shutdown as normal, screen dim, then hangs there while the power button still lighted. Using Windows 8.1. If it isn't malware then update all the 8.1 drivers from Lenovo's website. |

QUOTE(romeo57 @ Feb 10 2014, 12:52 AM) What did u use to scan? Which software? Easiest way is for you to go download Comodo Cleaning Essentials. Then run killswitch. See how many unknown process you have running. If things like chrome or firefox or explorer is unknown, then there is a good chance that you have an infection. Scan with a virus scanner like stinger and spybot. When i shutdown, it'll turn off the screen but the fan & keyboard light is still on. Only when i insert or remove any usb plug, then it'll totally shutdown. Kinda weird. I updated all drivers already, tried most of the solution except scanning for malware. Ya my computer was also like yours, screen off and fan and keyboard light is on. sometimes it takes more than 10mins to go all off. After getting rid of the malware now after all window and driver updates it shutdown in a few seconds and starts in less than 1min (using msata). |

QUOTE(jiant @ Mar 23 2014, 03:30 PM) currently using y410p.. You resized your C drive? Is your one key recovery still working? I ask cause when I did it last on my y500 one key recovery stop working.how to resize d drive partition in order to save windows recover image.? already shrink c drive partition with administrator tool-->disk manager. Best to keep windows recovery image on a USB drive. 16GB should be enough for it. |
