My problem with just using a standard 32GB msata was that most reviews came out saying that the lower capacity also comes with dramatically lower performance. Read somewhere that one of the msata tested hovers aroung 50 MB per second, far worse and almost near the performance of fast HDD's.

Bit the bullet and paid around RM60 plus more to get the 64gb (and faster version)
A lot of resellers still has the SLI 650M versions.

To me when you buy a SSD (mSata or otherwise) you should look at the spec of the product. There are lots of type of SSD with different speeds and performance. I do not agree with your statement that bigger capacity=better performance.

Agree on this but I think he's referring to express cache option. I've no experience on it so no comment smile.gif
*
Expresscache will only use maximum 32bg for mSata config. I have a 60bg mSata SSD but still only use 32gb (no way to set it to use max capacity unfortunately.

QUOTE(mfitri77 @ May 26 2013, 04:38 PM)
Depends on what type you are buying. The SSD to replace the hard drive or to add at the msata port.
Unfortunately, capacity do play a role. NANDs are like platter, they come in various capacities that needed to be linked properly to work. Take for example the Intel 525. At 30GB and the characteristics of the SSD interleaving on available NAND die, it means that in some circumstances, the SSD drive at 30GB actually flatlines at the 50mb per second mark.

Think of it this way. Imagine a 120GB HDD can be written to at 30MB per second. Now imagine 2 x 120GB HDD in a raid 0 configuration. Gives you 240GB Space and double the speed to 60MB per second. That's how some SSD works internally, which means capacity does matter.
*
I am using Intel 525 series 60gb. You maybe right but I trust major brands/manufacturers will make sure their products run as per specification. I cannot comment about less know/well establish brands/manufacturers.

Till today my mSata has been fantastic with super fast boot times.

Note: for those who are using Lenovo's Espresscache remember to run the command "eccmd -preload c:\windows". This will preload the entire c:\windows folder into the mSata SSD thus making your boot times faster. The process of preloading takes time, I just run the command then went to sleep after waiting for 1hr+.

what is the stable overclock speed for GT650M?
*
Err about the same as gt7750m speed? that would be safe cause GT750m is an over clock gt650m.

compare the clock speed. which is the faster. More RAM adds the ability to multi-task programs simultaneously, whilst clock speed how fast the system load from the RAM buffer storage. if were you i'd get the 1.8Ghz clock at 8GB. worth more than 16GB 1.6Ghz.
*
That is if your bus can support that speed la. Not sure about y500 and do not intend to overclock a laptop so guess if its spec at 1600mhz I will stay within spec. Corsair is a good reliable brand. I will save the extra cash for SSD brows.gif

I don't really post much so I'm sorry if I break any forum rules. Been contemplating so long to replace my laptop which by itself is an antique piece of art (6 years and still running strong). Am currently am split between Y500 and the Asus ROG (the latter due to its design).

My main issue is how big of a gap in performace does the Asus ROG GTX770 has when compared towards Y500 GTX 750 SLI graphics card?

The Y500 certainly looks like a beast, but if the performance is a marginal 5% difference; then I'll probably opt to grab my first ever Lenovo laptop.

Hoping for some advice.
*
Not sure about performance but I think Lenovo offers great value for money.

Hi all, I am having problem on the SLI configuration for Y500 SLI GT650M. When the laptop is connected to 170W adapter, boot up from previously shut down state, it detected 2 x graphic card and SLI function correctly. But whenever I restart the laptop, it detect only single graphic card. If I shut down and turn on again 2 x graphic card is detected.

I am running Windows 7 Pro. Please help.
*
Seems like a hardware problem. I would suggest that you sent to SC to check since its a new computer with warranty.

Did clean installation (check that option on custom installation), same result. Anyone here using Y500 SLI running Windows 7? I am thinking that maybe the problem is with the incompatibility of Y500 to Windows 7 because its default os is Windows 8.

call SC to see what they say la.

imma get fan ultrabay. SLI is an overkill for me.

do any1 know how to fix the lenovo invalid on mobo thingy?
*
I wouldn't advise you to get that fan ultrabay. If you open the back of your computer before you will notice that there is no point for a fan in the bay cause its almost closed and not connected to any heat pipes of the computer.

My problem finally solved, I reinstall Windows 8 and the problem just disappear. Now, new problem comes, anyone encounter Y500 keyboard randomly type random character while typing? I search google for this, and seems like this is a common problem for Y500. Anyone has any solution for this? (I tried turning off the backlit, disable trackpad, and even disable the always on USB on bios, all didnt solve the problem)

Really tired of the problem and bugs by Y500, regreted...

Told you just sent to SC. The one in lowyat is very friendly and helpful. Or did you get a AP set? If then.....................................
