makes me wanna lace open pro rims with 28/32 butted round spokes
*
some of the points is already quite well known... but i think he missed out that current wheel manufacturers compensate spoke thickness by lacing their wheels up with higher tension... higher tension also makes the wheel more stiff but at the sacrifice of spoke hole reliability or general reliability of the wheel...

if you go open pro route... the wheels will be heavy as it is very hard to get open pro into the 1500gram region (2 open pro rims will set you back at least 850 grams and above) hard to find 32 hole hubs too... the wheel market is driven by weight (very unfortunately) and it has work well so far... educating the mass to look away at this things and concentrate on weight and stiffness is very good for wheel makers as those 2 things can be achieved easily and sold for higher prices...reliability, not so...

my set of wheels have a very wide front hub... even wider than Zipp's 88 hub... around 79mm if i remember correctly and i took 30mm rears as opposed to 27mm fronts.... i also laced it 3x rear amounting to 28 spokes just to make it more reliable and able to handle to torque from pedaling loads...

my mistake was radial lacing the non-drive side as i dunno wat got over me to make that decision... it is now breaking spokes every couple of months and i am out of spokes for my NDS length... sucks...

open pro
28/32 butted spokes
alloy nipples
dt240 hubs

15xx kg. acceptable weight. similar to my 2007 fulcrum racing 1
*
in that case, it can do below or around 1500grams i believe 300 odd grams for the hub, 870 grams for the rims, 260-280grams for the spoke if you take DT Champion... but the price of the hub and rim is quite a mismatch lar...

what's the advantage of brass vs alloy nipples?

when i used the prowheelbuilder program, why no alloy nipple option for mavic cxp33? why only brass nipples?
*
alloy nipples are lighter but they are also prone to crack under high stress.. especially if laced up with high tensions...

Chris King R45, DT Swiss 240 non disc (if they are still available in Orbea), Shimano FH-7800 (if they still have stock in rodalink and i think they have FH-7900 too)

but i think R45 and DT Swiss is in low spoke count options...

the rest is novatec and some ciakai brands if you can find it...

novatec oso i tengok pening la nak service. why no simple like mavic...

those hubs u dun border servicing lar...the aluminum freehub will f@rk up before you need to service it...

the splines are not tough enough... even my current hub splines also a bit scarred the last time i saw the cassette taken out for spoke change...

CK R45 is aluminum freehub along with an aluminum thicker 17mm axle as far as i understand... DT also should be running aluminum and so is Zipp and most lightweight wheels...

isn't brass softer than alloy? risk of stripping it when tightening?
*
but it is stronger than alloy... it's very hard to strip the threads off a nipple lar...it will usually bottom out of thread before you can strip the threads...

i like DT bcoz so ez to service. even easier than mavic.

i dun see any point in servicing unless the wheel can last 2 to 3 years in possession...but watever yanks your chain...

gotta get the 36 point star ratchet upgrade though for DT...

i usually dun give a flying f@rk lar... cos every time i open it up... bad news gets bestowed on me...i rather jus leave it as it is...

CK, yes... you need to relube it with ring lube quite often and once a year is what CK suggest to do a complete strip clean and relube...

with cxp33 rims, can only choose brass nipples
*
oh ya kah... i chose RR585 rims... haha

i think it would be the rims having eyelets...but then the 585 also has single eyelets.. beats me why the CXP33 don't have alloy nipples...

in fact even the open pro has prolock and other alloy nipples... strange..

i've seen before in orbea quite a long time ago when i went to ask if they can get me the Aerolite spoke... they also had the RR rims at that time... but, not sure if they have it anymore now...definitely not 32 spokes when i saw it...

or you can ask KSH TTDI and see... i've seen them bringing in some DT wheels...
