Untick Sync under Gmail settings. After that, monitor your battery usage again.

Alternatively you can always freeze the app. Root is needed. Use System Tuner or any other similar apps

Not really, it comes with better performance, better battery life, better quality screen with slightly bigger screen size and some extra TW gimmicks such as Smart pause and Air View compares to S3. Unless S3 is suffice enough for your expectation, then you can skip the S4 and wait for Note 3.

In term of battery life is still early to justify with all features and bigger and higher dpi. When S3 received our 4.2.2 those TW features no longer surprise for S4.

For performance S4 may felt like S3 or slightly faster with all those gesture apps enabled by then developer will come out ROM without bloatware to make the phone lighter, by then the phone will consider great!!

By then S4 is only with higher processor, screen, RAM and camera... that's all...

if i use the type of casing that only protects the rear part of the phone instead of the flip type,will it make my phone more prone to damages?

Many users perception are easily influenced by outlook/design/appearance
Expectations are high the S4 will be different but Samsung had chosen a proven safe route n to maintain their signature look. Time will tell whether such a strategy will still work

Just get a casing that protects every side of the phone including the back, kinda like a bumper+ back. Personally I'm using a leather pouch. No point getting something that covers only the corners but leaves the top/rear and the sides exposed. This is a simple and functional concept, yet many people aren't even aware of

I get what you mean, Samsung are still stingy with the built material since some of the phone maker are adding some metal parts to look more premium. The design are still acceptable but the plastically feel...hmm. Anyway it's just base on my 2 cents and of course everyone have their own view of perception.
