I need to repaint for old gate / steel that has rust. (2nd hand house)

What is the procedures ?

1) I have applied some steel paint remover to remove the old paint & rust ...

2) then, directly apply steel PAINT ??? Or need to apply other thing 1st ?

1. Use grinders or steel brush to remove rust.

2. Wipe clean any rust, dust, dirt residue

3. Apply Undercoat Primer - the anti-rust type ... usually either red in color or green.

4. Paint with Gloss paint - color of your choice - make sure get an good quality paint like Dulux or Nippon ... don't be cheap ... because all your hard work removing the rust will go to waste if you don't use good quality paints. (u can either paint with brush ... or better yet spray ... spray will get a better smoother finish ... but you need some skills and techniques ...

Is undercoat primer necessary ?? The metal is painted b4 (many years ago, original condition)

The GLOSS　paint already bought NIPPON, but can the Primer use a cheap one ?? Any brand to recommend ??

If there are no signs of rust ... any paint/metal in good condition, just paint the undercoat over the bare metal parts, then paint your nippon paint ... the undercoat primer can be bought at the hardware shop, i suppose if you dont need a lot any brand will do.

If not you can just paint over your gloss paint ... make sure you do extra coat on where the bare metal are; there's a chance rust might happen if the paint doesn't cover over well enough.

Is better apply Primer/undercoat with antirust, it help prevent/slow down rust build up. It help to better adhesion of paint to the surface.

Some good primer, or paint can convert the rust / stablised the rust to prevent it spread further.

My gate is less than half a year, started to see paint peeled off and rust.

1 of this problem is the paint not fully cover and allow water sip in.

Another is the welding not fully cover and water sip into the hollow grill. And rust from inside out.

Expected lah. Malaysia worker.

Nowaday all the grill are not fully welding. Only spot welding. So it is important to use the paint to fully cover those hole.

Even my drawing and instruction is clear state all the joint is fully welding, those dickhead worker still just spot welding.

Save money, and faster production mah.

Will follow this guide when doing my gates too

Invest into a good primer la, different are not like hundreds or thousands is only like ten of ringgit different. Have you Paint grills or Gate before? Is not easy job. First timer I Paint dam hard job, next round I buy canned primer and got pump to spray paint. Faster and nicer but many time more expensive.

u r right..hand paint gate or grill very tiring.....i dont like to do it..now just hire worker....

Go for aluminium or s.steel gate. No more rust.

Use canned primer spray can pokai. 4pcs canned primer spray already can buy 1 tin of primer to paint your whole gate + extra. 4pcs canned primer spray cannot cover your whole gate either. And the canned primer spray is super thin layer.

I used about 12 canned if not mistaken.

Sometime is the outcome that count and my last spray for my mom house was around 2004, and only last year my mom repaint.

Aluminium have its own set of problem. SS is good, Can actually paint on SS if don't like the "Blink blink"

What is the problem bro? I planned to get one since my current steel gate is rusting like hell. Painting the SS? will the paint get peel off easily?

And, for autogate installation, your selection of installer or price maybe limited, not all know how to weld aluminium.

You need to know what grade of aluminum/alloy the installer give you.
