Speaking of which, I have received my A04 revision. smile.gif

This time, it does work as advertised. Banding is almost non existent. Everything surely does look better now.

The washout issue for VGA input's still there, but it can be fixed easily via the service menu.

U get a replacement or a new unit?  hmm.gif
*
Everything's in the original package. I received one refurbished one before, but I returned it straight away. It's a brand new unit this time. smile.gif

I thought I'm getting a refurbished unit since I've been using the current one for more than half a year now If I'm not mistaken. Lucky for me I guess...

iv'N : The answer is easy, we dont make enough noise and our consumer rights are not known to everyone. In the states if something is not right they sue. Here how many ppl are willing to go that far ?

Make some noise? You don't have to go round shouting at people, just tell them nicely what you're not happy with, and why you wanted a replacement unit, I guess they'll be more than happy to replace it for you, it's not like they have anything to loose.

No issues with the response time over here. The screen feels huge because I'm sitting right in front of it (like when you're using the PC).

I still can't believe GOW can look that good. I don't wanna miss out all the little gritty details.

If I'm on my PS2, I'll be lying half dead on the bed playing. smile.gif

Then r u using those TN panel LCD monitor (5ms response time and lower quality graphics) or those S-IPS one (16ms response time but with greater quality effects)?

I am really worry about this onli! Dun want to get headache after playing games.
*
As far as I'm concern, 2407 only comes with S-IPS and S-PVA screens. Mine's the S-PVA. The screen can be ridiculously bright at times, but thank god for the Service Menu, everything is adjustable.

*
Some people actually thought they can solve problems by shouting at people. smile.gif However, I can't blame them at times, not everyone who works there tries to solve problem, some of them just give you ridiculous answer and hope you'll content with it.

When that happens, just ask for the supervisor, they're more reasonable most of the time....

What's the average price for the monitor anyways? They price their products like the stock market.... sometimes it's up, way up even, and sometimes it's freaking low.... smile.gif

It's a matter of time and luck. Good luck bro. Come back here to tell us all about your purchase!

Proton different case lar... tongue.gif They dun give a damn about their customers... most of them purchased it because there's not much choice anyways. You know what? Most Malaysian companies are like that. Anyone tried talking to a Streamyx 'supervisor' before?

As for consumer electronics, that's a different ballgame altogether. smile.gif

Wow, she's selling quite a lot of LCDs. Pretty good price even. But the CODs price hiked up a lil bit.

No risk no gain I guess. smile.gif

I have the AV Cable, but I'm on the VGA cable right now. Too lazy to remove unplug the cables. Maybe next time.

However, the black bars should appear only at the top and bottom of the screen. If you can see it on the left and right, you must have gotten the settings wrong, or maybe, the monitor is doing something that it's not supposed to.

I've tried both 720p and 1080p and I can't see any difference.... really, I looked high and low for it and I'm pretty anal about graphics. The screen is just too small to show the minor differences. The Xbox UI feels a bit more sluggish too (the UI bar on the left screen when you click on the middle button) Maybe it's just me though. smile.gif

As for TV appears wider, you're correct. HDTV's running on 16:9 ratio and the 2407 is a 16:10 display. That's why you'll see 2 small bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The width is the same, it' just that the monitor is slightly taller (1080 vs 1200 pixels).

People recommends you to get the A04 because it's the latest revision. The later revisions fixed the banding and aspect ratio issue. For the A03, the 1:1 and Aspect is grayed out if the screen is displaying 1080p.

edoras81: Maybe you can play a bit more with the settings once you're infront of the monitor? Don't forget to come back here and post your findings.

My bad. I only have the 360 to test the output with. Everything else is being displayed from My PC. Like you said, 1080 videos looks way better than 720p videos. smile.gif

The differences is quite pronounce maybe because we're sitting so close to the monitor. Once you move back a few feet, it looks pretty much the same. Even a lousy PS2 graphics on this monitor looks pretty good when you're not sticking your nose up to the monitor (normal computer viewing distance vs normal tv viewing distance)

Since we're on the topic of resolution, if I were to purchase a 40', will I see a huge difference between a 1080p & 720p?

2407 native resolution is 1920 x 1200, which is a bit higher than the 1080 HDTV resolution (1920 x 1080).

So yeah, 24' monitor can do HDTV. It's freaking small though compared to the 40 or bigger TVs. biggrin.gif

I'd rather stick with this as opposed to a SD 29' TV though...

After playing around a bit with the 2407 A04, for 1080i with component inputs setting it a 1:1 gives me black bars on all 4 sides but setting it on aspect it gives me only lines at the top and bottom which is so thin it is quite negligible.
*
If that's the case, that means 1080p != 1080 pixels for the component input. How's the quality like? I need to do quite a lot of adjustments in order to make the VGA looks good. The original image appears a bit too washed out. It looks freaking good now though.... biggrin.gif

revision a04 is out already?

Yeap, it's out now. People first spotted it somewhere in mid January if I'm not mistaken.

Care to share what tweaks u did with the lcd? Adjusting the colors thru the service menu rite?  brows.gif
*
VGA thru the Dell 2407 will produced really washed out colors (brightness way too high), and even if you were to lower down the brightness to 0, you can still see the freaking backlight.

I don't remember the settings exactly at the moment, but you are correct, it's somewhere in the service menu.

Lower down one of the gain value and boom, superb blacks with superb whites. rclxm9.gif Superb here can be subjective though since there's no way to totally turn off the backlight unlike the high end LCD TVs (Bravia for example).

Are there extensions available for component cable? If so about how much are they?

For components, you can just get a standard female to male cable and you're done. Shouldn't be that expensive...

The 30' Dell monitor is not exactly a TV as it requires dual DVI to power the freaking high resolution 2560x1600. So I guess that's pretty much out of the picture at the moment.

As for 1080p, there won't be much difference for TVs as you won't be sitting so close to it. In order to see the difference, you gotta have at least a 40' (personal observation from electrical stores).

On another note, a lot of newer models are coming out soon, but as for our local shores, we'll still have to pay a premium for something that's already obsolete elsewhere. (e.g Bravia 40V200 is still going for SRP 9000 when you can get the 40W200 which is a 1080p panel in UK for roughly the same price)

So the question remains, to wait or not to wait. smile.gif

I don't think anyone's getting confused here. smile.gif What ever makes you happy dude.

// --

I'm on the Dell 24' at the moment, and I can say it looks pretty good with the 360. Size wise, it's huge when you're sitting infront of it, not so when you sit from a normal tv seating distance. Just go to any TV stores and take a look at their < 32 incher and compare it with the rest.

However, if you're going to use the monitor for PC use as well, the 1920 resolution is a godsend. On a somewhat related note, it's going for 2599 with 5 years warranty at the moment.

Have you managed to connect your Xbox 360 to your new monitor yet? At what resolution did you use in the settings? Did you get wide screen display on the monitor for the Xbox?

I am really interested in getting this monitor but I am concerned if it is compatible with Xbox.  notworthy.gif

Appreciate your reply! Thanks!

The monitor should work fine with the 360. Not sure about the quality though, will go and have a look later tonight.

If you're using the VGA cable, the highest resolution you can go for is 1366 x 768 (720p)
