well thne guess your places power point is 3 phase, that's why upstair and downstair is not connected,..

repeater should be working well , but if u really want much more than that, ethernet cable confirm is  stable

it depends on whether any interferences and coverages the wireless antenna of the router & repater both
*
Yup it's 3 phase. Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it

if u decide to go ahead with ethernet cable, then invest in some good quality type in Cat6 cable,

or invest in good router with great dBi antenna and power to amplify the wireless coverages to prevent blind spot in your places,..

I think I will get ASUS RT-N12HP and set it up in repeater mode. Running cables is going to be a bit of a headache... rclxub.gif

Thanks again thumbup.gif

Hmmm... on second thoughts, I will just use ASUS RT-N12HP as the main router, replacing the one that came with Astro Fiber. Since this ASUS can has 300% range compared to normal router, it should be able to reach my upstairs easily and give me at least 3 bars... hopefully smile.gif

If this works, then don't need to set up repeater or AP

Hey bro, I have just bought this router but I haven't unboxed it(still in shrink wrap!!:D)
So for HyppTV I just plug into lanport 4 and setup and then use as usual?

Was trying to buy this but instead bought the RT-N14U HP with 3 9dBi antennas.

Seem like those with low price already sold out and only seller with higher pricetag have leftovers. Perhaps Asus phasing them out for the 3 antennas RT-N14U HP.

RT-N14UHP is on mediatek/ralink chipset, the RT-N12HP is on broadcom chipset, do let us know how stable is it.

Sorry to tag the both of you. but I need help.

Previously I was using the provided streamyx wireless router. but the wifi connection keeps dropping- some say due to channel problem but I tried changing and using different channels but still to no avail. So some say maybe due to overheating and I bought this router.

I thought it was as simple as take out old streamyx router, replace with new ASUS one and done, but it says "WAN not connect/detected" - ethernet not connect, when of course, I have all the cables inserted.

U need to connect the router to Unifi Modem thereafter do the setting for Unifi Account.

In short....set the connection setting all over again.

not using unifi. But I assume its the same.

you mean I still need the ADSL that Streamyx provided?

but if the ADSL always overheats and drops the wifi connectivity, would I face the same problem again even with the new router?

I must say I'm not well-versed with networking things.

If I knew I would have just spent more for the asus ADSL + Wifi router

All Internet connections, regardless of whether you're using DSL, fibre, cable or mobile, require modems. In the case of Streamyx, an ADSL2+ modem, which may either be a separate piece of equipment or built into the (wireless) router.

Am not sure about your particular setup, as to whether TM supplied you with BOTH an ADSL modem and a router, or whether the router is doing the modem function as well. I don't know if the ASUS router you bought has an ADSL modem built-in either.

If you have 2 separate pieces of equipment, it will look something like:

(Phone line IN) splitter (voice line to phone)/(DSL line OUT) --> (DSL line IN) ADSL modem (Ethernet line OUT) --> (Ethernet line IN) router

In this case, you may well have to find out whether your ADSL modem is acting like a bridge (in which case your router *may* be the one logging you in and so you need to instruct the router to connect to your Streamyx account using your Streamyx username/password) or as a router (in which case the modem is logging you in and replacing the router is in fact just a matter dropping it in).

If you have 1 integrated router, it will look like:

(Phone line IN) splitter (voice line to phone)/(DSL line OUT) --> (DSL line IN) router

In this case, your router (if it's not acting as a bridge) is doing the logging in and you need to give it the correct details.

thanks for the detailed explanation.

I think mine would be something like the first set-up.

I haven't tried the suggested solution as above because I've been busy, But I would think my asus router does not have ADSL function (as far as I would know, does not have modem functionality).

So I would have to use the existing streamyx ADSL router and use the ethernet as per your explanation but disable the wifi functionality, correct? - so it will use the wifi function on the asus router.
