I recently purchased this router but I dont see much improvement on the coverage compared to my old unifi router. Did I set it up wrongly?

Have been using this router for over a year, it has Google DNS setup, placed on 1st floor. Test below from ground floor, abt approx 12m away from router... Think it's not bad

Hi,

I bought this router and very disappointed with the reliability of this model.
1st unit...after setting up to Unifi....it runs well including the Hypp TV for a day.
Speed wise and Wi Fi strength all OK.
Next day all mobile devices cannot log on.
Do the usual reset, factory reset, manual WiFi channels..etc same problem.
Tried this in Klang. Then tried in Penang separate Unifi account.
Same problem occurred. Disconnects after 1 day.
Brought back to shop. They help to send back for warranty.
After few weeks, they lost my unit and gave me a new unit.

Updated firmware, tried again. Unifi account same problem.
Get friend to help test on Maxis account.
This 2nd unit exact same problem.
Running fine for 1 day, next day just would cannot log in wifi anymore.

It is printed on the box 3 years warranty!!!!!!!!!

Anyone with 50mb down and 20mb up unifi package using this router? My speedtest by using wifi only goes up to 30mb down and 20mb up. however if i use LAN cable, i get 50mb down and 20mb up.

I've tried resetting, update firmware, disable QoS, change wifi channel also no use. Anyone has the same problem?

i was using this router, but is rtn12hp_b1.

50mbps unifi, full speed wifi 50ft 2.4ghz.

no need change any setting, just default.

of course, in poor spots with too much obstruction, can get only 20-30mbps.

if u can't do anything about yr device location, u can change to a dual band router, add a dual band wifi adaptor (for pc/laptop), use 5ghz.

this 5ghz is great for up to 55ft wifi, beyond which it can't go much further, will lose speed quickly.

if u describe yr type of home, distances, devices... in detail.. others can comment and help u further.

AVFAN pretty much says it. You get a lot for the price and seems stable. With none of that firmware issues plaguing the extra features sold with high end Asus routers.

true... i just updated, alto not is use at the moment.

rtn12hp_b1 is one excellent cost effective 2.4ghz wifi router - up to 50mbps.

Can we just flash B1 firmware to rt-n12hp with no B1?

What's the max speed for this router?

Since unifi is upgrading my package to 500 Mbps and if this router cannot support 500 Mbps I am thinking to downgrade my package to 300 Mbps

https://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN12HP_B1/specifications/

From here it says 300 Mbps WiFi but WAN is 10/100 only. Since our unifi modem send data to this router via LAN does that mean the bottleneck is 100 or 300?

The speed will never reach 300, as it doesn’t support 5GHz AC, s you need to get the Asus RT-AC1300UHP at least.
