You will appreciate i7 quad core, FHD screen (more work space), 8G RAM. Discrete GPU will help on 3D Max.
SSD - 128G ~ RM300+, 256G ~ RM600+. Better to buy after-market and swap with HDD as laptop brands charge high price for SSD.

Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB, backlit keyboard optional, W8
Vostro 3560, i7-3632QM + AMD HD7670M + 32GB SSD + 750GB(7200rpm) HDD + (1920x1080)@RM3209[2.57kg], 8GB, W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

Can also consider this:
Acer
V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8

Nice laptop. Good deal for the spec. Slim and thin and light.
Caveat:
Only 1 RAM slot.
Glossy screen (even though it is Vostro)
No ODD. No VGA port.

What game titles do you play? Anyway, for your budget, the best GPU you can probably get is ~ GT630M.

Acer
Aspire V3-471G-53212G75d, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.3kg], 2GB, 750GB W8

Asus
K46CM-WX059V, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, 4-cell battery, W7HP, OD

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1899[1.99kg], W8SL, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell

Lenovo
G480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1699, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS
G480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899, 4GB, 1TB (5400rpm), W8, 2 yrs warranty

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

both are on par with actually. sweat.gif

the extra RM300 means you get a quad core i7 processor than a dual core i5.
*
Noted. But what about the graphic card? Are they any better than each other?

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Apr 25 2013, 09:51 AM)
Not to forget:
the 1 year on-site warranty service from Dell vs 2 year send to SC International warranty from Lenovo tongue.gif

Whether it is worth it to spend the money to get more powerful i7 is up to your usage: Do you require an i7 quad core?
If not, RM300 is better spend on a 128G SSD laugh.gif
*
So on-site warranty is better? Not familiar with warranty-claimings.. shakehead.gif

My mindset is just, if im getting anything, why not getting a good one straight away instead of settling for less? But with budget constraints oso la. Hehe

P.S: Does it REALLY make a difference using an SSD?

on site warranty is better since the technician go to your house / office to fix laptop for you smile.gif But the Dell only has 1 year warranty, and to extend to 3 years cost you ~ RM250 more.

If you don't need the quad core, you are not only wasting money, but quad core also use more power (battery performance suffer), generate more heat. And i5 duo core is a powerful CPU already (but since you did not mention what you use the laptop for ... )

SSD definitely make a difference. Imagine laptop boot up in < 10s. Apps launch snappily. Never has to see the light blink blink for HDD disc activity ... Once you go SSD, you never go back laugh.gif

what kind of games you want to run? if those heavy games, this budget is not recommended. at least RM1900.

Boss Raymond,
What is the model equivalent for this laptop spec if it is HP, Samsung, Dell or Fujitsu.
It just that I already owned a Lenovo.
Thanks for the help.

Hmm. More money. Lol. Considering now.

Well, mainly im using it for assignments, and games. Starting to play games now, so might as well?

So if the i7 is gonna generate lotsa heat, does a cooling pad helps?

Sounds great using an SSD! So does changing it affects the warranty?

With this spec, can it run Dota 2 at mid setting with 40+ fps?
My consideration is K46CM, Z400 and this.
Cons:
K46CM - Need upgrade RAM, ULV processor, no backlit key, problematic service
Z400 - non-removal battery, quite bulky for me even it is a slim laptop compare to other, key flex quite terrible as I watch the review on the internet
Vostro - non-removal battery, as you say, 1 RAM slot, no backlit key

Pros:
K46CM - Removal battery, exceptional quality, good sound, ODD, cheapest Ultrabook on the market.
Z400 - bang for bucks, back lit key, ODD
Vostro, Nice design, Ultrabook form factor with a full Intel i5 processor, exceptional service, should be good quality (Aluminium), should be good sound (With subwoofer)

2. Budget: rm3.5k (Can extend to rm4k if it worth it)
3. Usage: uni use, programming, visual studio, average game

Note: I've looking for asus n56vz i7 for quite a long time, and cant find it anywhere....all no stock sad.gif . I like the levono y500 build quality, it feel solid. However, when i try the touchpad left and right click seem to be unstable...feel like it want to spoiled already. rclxub.gif So headache now, i need some recommendation. Has been looking for a good laptop for quite a long period of time already.

Yes, the Vostro 5460 with i5 and GT630M should handle Dota2 well.
