Hey guys, can you all help me search some?
Price = below 2k
Brand = Asus, Sony, Fujitsu, Toshiba.....or lenovo maybe. (Definitely no Acer and HP)
Purpose = Uni purpose. (Study mechanical engineering). Slight gaming (Dota 2).
Others (Must) = Multitouch touchpad with gesture control. Screen 13"-14".
Optional = Touchscreen, backlit keyboard, good battery life, aluminium body, good protability (Ultrabook).

Laptop I found
Sony VAIO E Series - i3 3310m, HD4000 = RM1899
Toshiba Sattelite U840 - i3 3217U, HD7550m, backlit keyboard = 1899
Fujitsu Lifebook L series - i3 3110m, GT620m, 2GB DDR3 = 1899
ASUS K46CM - i5 3317U, GT635m, 2GB DDR3, DVD = 1999

the ASUS K46CM will be better pick. by the way, why do you need a touchpad with gesture control? i dont see the popularity in gesture control. hmm.gif

Windows 8 needed it, without multitouch it's reall difficult browsing around. Btw i would not carrying a mouse around. I used it in my room only.
But the problem is 2GB is enough? And K46CM I don't think it's upgradable.

What the difference between ASUS K46CM and S46? They looked the same and having 100% same spec bit a bump of few hundred in S46 series.

ARM processor won't outperform a x86 processor at the moment. Intel atom score higher than any latest ARM on the market.

Hey guys, could you help me decide ASUS K46CM or Lenovo Z400?
Budget <= 2K
Usage: University, engineering, Dota 2, Movie.
Sound quality and screen quality do matter a lot though, and also portability.

Ultrabooks are not really meant for gaming because of the slim profile nod.gif
Still, if you insist on getting an ultrabook capable of gaming, then that Asus A56 is a good (and only) pick  nod.gif

A56CM, K46CM, S46C, What's their difference? Looks, spec and everything is same except pricing. S46CA is higher than K46CM with exactly the same spec. Why?

I think K46CM is quite a capable ultrabook with such a low price. Built aluminium and quite good sound quality and even come with a DVD-ROM! GT635M is quite capable running Dota 2 at 1366x768 with mid setting.

I previously targeted at Z400 but after read some review about Z400 touch, it seems like built with a fake "aluminium" but plastic. The keyboard is quite bad and screen is dull (Maybe due to their touchscreen?) and Z400 isn't quite slim after I saw the side profile of the laptop, as thick as mainstream laptop and just the "Aluminium" and curved down plastic make it looks slim. I do like their spec and back lit keyboard but the built quality and thickness isn't quite good. Any Z400 owner here? Can share your opinion? It's quite hard to find a Z400 owner everywhere.

Sorry to bother you guys again
My friend want a laptop
Preferred brand - As long as it is a famous brand
Usage - College, he say gaming isn't that important
Budget - Any
He want a touchscreen Ultrabook which can last more than 7-8 hours.
I currently introduce him a Sony VAIO Duo with upgraded battery. Or a Touchscreen Vaio T series. Sifus got any other suggestion?

Dell [Ultrabook] XPS12, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080;touch)@RM3999[1.54kg], 8GB, W8, backlit, spill resistant keyboard, build-in battery, no ODD
Lenovo [Ultrabook]IdeaPad Yoga 13, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399, 4GB, 2 years; colors: grey/orange
ASUS Taichi, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 256GB SSD@RM3999[1.25kg][Bang & Olufsen], 4GB, dual IPS screens

actually the best choice is the sony vaio duo. if you want a laptop like convertible, the best is dell XPS 12. Lenovo Yoga also not bad, but the negative side is your keyboard will be facing outside but locked in tablet mode. ASUS Taichi has great dual screen technology but terrible screen experience in terms of colour sharpness and vibrance.

Thanks a lot for your information.

I just purchased my ASUS A45V series. i5-3210M, 14' screen, NVIDIA 2G, 6G RAM, for RM1950 in Low Yat. I think Asus would make a better choice than toshiba as i heard that toshiba's customer service is not that good.

The ventilation system for Asus is done well and seldom i heard about asus overheating problem. It has 3x charge cycle life, USB 3.0, 500G HDD. Should be enough for Uni use?
*
I play Dota 2, A45V looks quite thick and if I go for thick laptop, Z400 is my 1st priority yet.

[Ultrabook]K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD

Best choice is ASUS K46CM, use remaining budget upgrade RAM. One of the 1st Ultrabook offer Optical Drive and removable battery. Upgrading RAM is easy as ABC, aluminium body, SonicMaster speaker. Offer a conventional laptop features and price in a Ultrabook form factor. You can never go wrong with this.

all of them are core i5 processors, I wonder if they'll be okay when I have to multitask between graphic editing and video editing work + HD movies

saw someone selling a lenovo z400 touch in garage sales, the specs is quite tempting as it's core i7, nvidia gt 740M plus a touchscreen and a backlit keyboard
but I'm not too confident with lenovo performance compared to asus
is there any asus model that has similar spec to the z400 that I should consider?
*
Z400 isn't a Ultrabook, it's just a slimmer laptop. Still bulky.
Can consider N56VZ, better build quality (Full Aluminium), Full SonicMaster audio (top in laptop, also come with a woofer). But much bulky and quite expensive compare to Z400 with similar spec.
And today's Ultrabook is quite capable of multitasking actually. Sometimes even an i3 is quite overpowered for everyday usage. i5 for multitasking I think isn't really a problem.

2. Budget : around 3k
3. Usage : net surfing, graphic design, play 3d games, see full hd movies.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : windows 8, touch screen, light weight.

i am looking a laptop to match above conditions and i found lenovo ideapad yoga 13 but seen this model cannot play 3d games and full hd movies. Anyone can recommend me. thankyou.

Full HD + Touch + Light weight = Lame 3D
Full HD + High 3D = Heavy and no touch.
Most important, laptop for heavy 3D games weight heavy too.

i can still watch full hd videos with my lousy 1280x800 screen. sweat.gif

1080p screen isnt necessary as long you have 1366x768 unless you are an enthusiast.
*
But he say 1080p movie, I think he means a 1080p display laptop. If not even my Galaxy SII processor also can decode 1080p. tongue.gif

yesh!! I'm actually stucked between asus and sony vaio that time. vaio SVS13116FGP in house promotion for only RM2299. also i5-3210, window 7 (ASUS windows 8), 640G HDD, 4G RAM, up to 12 hours battery life(which i think is really good). too bad its only 13.3' screen. At least the brand itself is reliable, great resolution.

I'm taking IT course so i'll be using borland C++, adobe dreamweaver. I'm fond of photoshop so i did some photoshop, after effects too.. =)

Hi, may I ask where you found this laptop at such a ridiculous price? Sony own retail store or which shop or online seller? I wish to know, thanks.
For the 12 hours usage, it probably is need an optional external battery or anything else. It last only 6 hours out of the box, which is quite good.
If Vaio S series selling at this price, it's definitely a bargain. Wonderful design (With backlit key), good portability (Slim), Goos spec (i5, GT640M LE), excellent build quality (Most part is Aluminium) and good battery.
