light and skinny laptop, during to space constraint, could not incorporate very good ventilation / cooling system, so if ceteris paribus, then it will obviously run hotter than normal laptop.
That's why most skinny laptop should use ULV CPU and go full SSD

For your old laptop, maybe get a technician to have a look, clean dust from air inlet / outlet and internal cooling fan, reapply thermal paste as well.
You don't need powerful laptop for your usage. Good audio is tricky. Law of physic dictates that laptop speakers suck

(need space to generate proper bass). Suggest you go out and listen to real unit to see if they are "good enough" for you
