Need some help sifu to finalize my decision

1. Preferred Brand : Any but good quality and service
2. Budget : 2k-2.5k
3. Usage : Surfing, medium gaming, movies
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14-15", prefer ultrabook

Laptop in my mind currently, HP Envy-4 with 32gb ssd, lenovo z400.
Are this two laptop is the new model coz i'm thinking to buy the newest model if possible.
Can u help and recommend me please..  tongue.gif
Or if there is any other model suited details above
*
Dell
Vostro 5460, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA SSD + 500GB(5400rpm))@RM2199[1.54kg], 4GB, W8SL, 3 cell

HP
Envy4-1204TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M + 32GB mSATA +500GB(5400rpm)@RM2399[Beats][1.75kg], 2GB, W8
Envy4-1238TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M@RM2099[Beats][1.75kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo
Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty

Envy 4 line up has been quite a while, HP update the specs from time to time.
If you go for HP, I suggest you take the 1238TX, then swap out the HDD for a SSD (128G ~ RM300+/-). Give you much better user experience vs the 1204TX stock spec.

Z400 is quite new. But it is not an ultrabook, even it is thin. The i5 M CPU plus the small battery won't give you good battery performance.

If you go for the Dell, extend warranty to 3 years on site (~ RM250).

If you intend to game on any of these models, make sure you get good external cooling solution (eg. cooling pad, table fan ...).

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

one last question before I place my order,Is Lenovo Y500 suffer from heating problem? I own the Notepal U3 Cooler Pad

and is glossy screen is far lousier than matte screen?
*
Lenovo Y500 has quite decent heat profile for a laptop aim for gaming. U3 will also help.

Glossy screen vs matte screen seriously is a matter of personal preference.
Some people (like me) can't stand having everything reflect from the glossy screen, but some like the more vibrant colour (not necessary more accurate) coming out from glossy.
It's something that only you can decide.

From the pictures, can't really tell which is better tongue.gif
Both obviously suffer from the poor viewing angles of the TN panel biggrin.gif
Screen really is something that you have to see in person to decide whether you like it or not. Whatever picture you see of a screen through "another screen" is being influenced by the quality of the "another screen" nod.gif

Build quality actually is good. This is actually one of the most "value for money" ultrabook around, consider its weight, the 128G SSD, ...

1. Preferred Brand : Asus, Lenovo, Acer, Dell, HP
2. Budget : 2.3k, off course as cheap as possible and willing to top up if really worth it
3. Usage : Surf internet, play offline FPS like crysis and online game
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14 and 15.6 inch

in my mind I can't decide this 2
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

Ideapad Z580, i7-3612QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), freeDOS, white

does the processor and graphic card a lot difference ??
how about similar spec with similar price ? best is 15.6 inch >.<

yet I don't need the OS since I am studying IT, I can download windows 7 and 8 pro from msdn website, is legal with CD key
*
Go with the Y400 for your budget. It's the best bang for buck at that price range. The GT750M at 1366x768 (HD) resolution mean you could play Crysis at high details.

No 15" at your budget come close smile.gif

ii) Yes, even if the laptop display don't have FHD, you can still connect the laptop to FHD external display and enjoy FHD resolution.

iii) 15" ultrabook line-up in Malaysia is a wash tongue.gif

i) You won't find FHD screen in 14", only HD+ (1600x900). FHD in 15", in Malaysia, can only be found among some heavy beast. There are plenty of FHD 13" laptop though laugh.gif

Hi I am looking to buy a new laptop. I have this 5 year old Asus K42JV that is no longer able to keep up with the current demands for games.

Preferred Brand : Asus, other is fine but definitely not Acer
Budget : 2 - 2.5k
Usage : Gaming
Preferred laptop/screen size : 14" or 15.6"

I would prefer GeForce gc if possible, GT 640M, 645M or 650M. Atm, I am looking at Asus A45VS. Another one I would like to know, how does games work on Windows 8. I mean like have all the games now are compatible with Windows 8, or are there still issues or glitches when running on Windows 8, because I would prefer Win7 more.

Recommendation please ?

Asus
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8

If you are willing to consider other brand, then:

Lenovo
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

Games work fine in W8 smile.gif

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

Basically if I seldom move from my table,it is okay to hook to external monitor and enjoy the full hd right?

my choice would be narrow down to XPS13/14,or lenovo Y500.which one of this would be a better pick?

Yes.

Still don't get why you want an ultrabook (which whole point of existence is for portability laugh.gif) when you seldom move the laptop from a table icon_rolleyes.gif
